What a clean and friendly facility available to Greene County. We were traveling on spring break…read moreand spent a few nights in the area. My wife is pretty fanatic about getting her workouts in, even on vacation. We stopped to check out the Greene County Y and found they offered reciprocity to other Y members. This is such a great program for the YMCA to offer and the Greene County Y is now the second time I've taken advantage of it. We often do Les Mills programs at our home Y and dropped in on a 6 a.m. "fight back fit" class thinking it would be of a similar cardio based nature to what we are used to. It turns out this was an actual sparring type program with a small group of regular Greene County members. The group was immediately very inviting and welcomed us into their class. We each worked with a class regular that really sacrificed their own morning workout to work with the newbies. We had a lot of fun in this class and wish our own Y at home offered a similar program. The facility was clean throughout. The steam room was a bonus because we don't have one of those back home. Thank you to the Tuesday morning fight back fit class for being so welcoming and thank you Greene County Y for offering up such a great facility with quality programming.

5/22/17 From the archive…read more Knowing that my hotel I was staying at for the evening, the Hampton Inn in Greeneville, has a sparse workout area, I decided to head over to the Y to get a proper workout in before heading to the hotel. I was pleasantly surprised with what I found. I checked in at the front desk, made my way to the locker rooms, and got changed up. Visiting all of these gyms around the country makes me appreciate my home gym even more. There was nothing inherently wrong with the locker room here, especially if you hadn't experienced something better, but this was just a basic LR. The lockers were the old high school metal kind with the see through grates. The benches were plain wooden, and the showers were very basic as well. But, everything was clean and they offered towels, so I cant make any major complaints. The workout facility was bigger than I expected. Greeneville isn't exactly a burgeoning metropolis, but the facility is a great size. It is a classic Y prototype. You know, the one from the song by the Village People? There was a game room, lap pool, two gymnasiums, a lounge, a child care area, basically everything anyone of any age needs to occupy some time either after school or after work. There kids playing on the pool table and in the gyms, playing on the soccer fields and playground outside, and adults having fun as well. The workout equipment was updated and worked fine. The free weights section(s) were kind of small and cramped with only two sets of each poundage, making finding the proper weight difficult at times. But the treadmills seemed brand new. I missed having the TV display on the treadmill itself, but there were several tvs spread around. I will most definitely hit this place up next time I am staying in town. Since I already have a Y membership, this will be very convenient.

I used to bring my kids to this park fairly often when they were younger. It's a nice park for…read morechildren up to the age of about 6-7. There are two decent sized play sets, baby swings, regular swings and a zip line/monkey bar set. There is a nice pavilion with tables and benches in the middle of the park that people use for picnics, birthday parties and just escaping the heat. Beside the pavilion is a small splash pad with some changing rooms that is ideal for kids up to about 5 or 6. There is another smaller pavilion inside the splash pad that has about 2 or 3 benches. Behind the splash pad is a basketball court and two tennis courts. The downsides to the park: * One of the biggest is that there isn't any natural shade so it gets really hot in the summer * Once your child reaches about age 8, they've pretty much outgrown the splash pad and playground area so the only places left to play are the basketball court and tennis courts that have no pavilion or trees for natural shade so again, those areas get unbearably hot on summer days. * The bathrooms are pretty far off to the side of the park and they aren't always well stocked with toilet paper, soap, towels or a hand dryer. They also have no circulation in them so they feel like a sauna, even on cooler days. All in all, it's a decent park if you're looking for a place for your little one to run around and get some energy out for a little while.

This is a brand new park that opened in Morristown that is focused on providing a place for…read morechildren with disabilities to play but is lots of fun for other children as well. While the park isn't as large as some others in the area, there is a lot packed into the space! The huge play area in the center of the park has so much in it from slides, bridges and climbing ropes. There is a special play area for very young children, swings that include special seats for babies and children with special needs, a safer teeter totter, merry-go-round, and swing ropes. There are also a lot of areas for kids to experience different textures and sounds with musical instruments. While the park doesn't have many trees to offer natural shade, there are several covered pavilion areas and umbrellas for adults and children to escape the sun and enjoy a picnic. I also like that there isn't any mulch in this playground but the rubber ground. There are two entrances to the park: one that faces Fred Miller park (which is right across the street if you want to go from one park to the other) and another at the back of the park where there is a smaller parking lot. If the parking lot is full, which it was when we came, there is an overflow lot behind that which I'm assuming is part of the Baptist church's parking. There are also restroom facilities in the park--a family restroom and then one for boys and one for girls. The inside of the bathrooms are clean and have spacious stalls enough rooms for a wheelchair/stroller. I love taking my boys to parks to get out of the house to play and meet other kids. This is a great addition to the local parks and offers a space for all children which was greatly needed!

I will say that if you need the hours for which they are open, go on their website and it will tell you. Google's hours are incorrect, and I had submitted the hours posted on the door to Yelp HQ while my brother and dad were playing pool so that it can be updated to the correct ones. Before I continue, do note that you will need to scan a QR code to sign your waivers when you enter. The location is pretty unassuming, and it's not a very big place. Actually, this place can very easily be passed by if you don't know what you're looking for. You have to park in the back, and if you have issues walking, making the descent down to the front door can be a huge hassle. That said, the games they do have are fun. I will admit, I might have benefitted more during laser tag had the game been explained to me better so that I didn't score a big fat 0. But it does seem like it would have been much more fun had I ever been able to get the hang of it. I didn't let that discourage me in the end though. I played a few good match-ups of air hockey and even played against one of the locals. There was also this 3 vs. 12 game you can play that was a new one to me. I couldn't explain the rules, but it requires a good deal of skill and especially aim. It's one that's fun even if you get nowhere with it. Now for the escape room, you are given a choice of two escape rooms to try. There's an ambulance room and an 80's themed room. Because we were a party of 3, we went with the ambulance, which was a cramped place. For both the escape rooms and the laser tag you are given admission tickets if you want to play. Thankfully for us, the escape room was explained much better. You get 60 minutes to beat the room using the clues given. We did it with 7:33 to spare. We did get to have a free peek at what the 80's room looked like inside and it's a much larger room. If you want to attempt the 80's themed room however, it's recommended you bring a bigger group of people, like maybe a party of at least 5. Before today I had only ever done 1 escape room, and it was one I did (and was actually able to complete, albeit just barely) by myself. The one we did made us really think about what we were doing and forced us to really be careful what we were doing to make sure we got it done. If you can get past the heat and claustrophobias, you're in a good place here. For the staff, these are friendly folk. Actually, the one who was in charge of the escape rooms may or may not have been recognized by my brother from Bible studies. They also do a really good job at keeping this place clean, and they seem to be people that enjoy working with each other. No complaints about anyone here. All in all, a good place to have some good fun to unwind yourself in. It was a good last stop for this trip before I fly back home the next afternoon.
