Stopped at the 8th annual Christkindlmarkt at the West Allis Farmers Market and had a wonderful…read moretime! This traditional European-style Christmas market features over 60 vendors, including artisan crafts, handmade gifts, and Wisconsin specialty foods. There were so many unique items to browse, from ornaments and décor to homemade treats. The food and drink options were fantastic -- local food trucks like EZ Tiki, Flip's Mini Donuts, Tots on the Street, and Milwaukee Pretzel Company, plus local beer, made it easy to snack while walking. The weather was decent, which made strolling through the market enjoyable, though it was definitely busy with lots of holiday shoppers. Live music and festive decorations added to the cheerful atmosphere. Parking was convenient with several nearby lots, and the layout made it easy to explore despite the crowds. A fun, lively holiday event -- perfect for shopping, enjoying seasonal treats, and getting into the Christmas spirit!

If you are looking to spend less, but don't want to sacrifice quality check this space out. The produce is the best! The farmers are friendly and helpful. This is how I do the majority of my food shopping during the warmer seasons. *** Bring cash if you can and please remember that there are other people around so be mindful of others as well. :)

Went here for the annual Saint Martin's fair. Opens Sunday and Monday every Labor Day (9am-6pm)…read more The regular Monday fair is open during the summer. Plenty of vendors selling a variety of goods. Spices, clothing, crafts, sundries, and lots and lots of food. Live entertainment on stages in front of the local bars along the street. Plenty of Farmer's market items, fresh produce, dairy, and homemade meat products. This event seems to keep getting bigger every year. Very well organized, and everyone is very kind and cooperative. Parking along the roadside, or closer parking on residential lawns for a minimal fee.

Yes, that's the name. The whole thing. Blame city ordinances lol…read more So far it's very small with just a handful of vendors. The tables are set up along the sidewalks right now, but I wonder if it will spill over into the green space around the gazebo if more vendors start taking part in the market. Today I just saw seven and they all had different offerings. The few I dealt with were cash only. Others may have card readers. I didn't ask because I didn't need anything from them. There is parking available on Franklin street, but if the spaces are full it looks like parking is available along Swiss Street. Alternatively, if it ever gains in popularity, there is definitely parking across from Wegner's Inn on St. Martins. I am a big fan of the change. The fair used to be held on the first Monday of every summer month from 6am through noon. I use the term fair loosely because it was just a few people spread out so far from each other. Definitely not what it was 15 years ago. I understand the tradition of a morning farmers market/fair, but it was so inconvenient. Now, since it is every Monday and goes until 7, I can still take part if I have to work late. It's like someone actually listened to my complaining :) There were Port-o-Johns and a wash station set up. I thought that was a nice touch in case anyone were to need a restroom. Please stop in and take advantage of this new market if you are in the area. I want it to succeed and not be reduced to just the Labor Day weekend flea-market style fair. Support your local growers and entrepreneurs!

I need to start this off by saying what gets me to the farmers market is breakfast. I am absolutely…read moreobsessed with the breakfast pizza from Cedar Teeth pizza. I get there right at 8am and beeline to that stand. They give you a pager while you wait which gives me time to do a lap or two around the market. I have purchased beets, potatoes, zucchini and cherries this season but it's not something I get every market like the pizza. There are other great food vendors there too like the National Cafe and Press Waffles. Only a few more markets left for the season!

Good food, options abound for those who want breakfast, brunch, or lunch. My weekly purchases are driven by the season, the hard-working vendors, and my fellow shoppers. From berries and lettuce in the spring to squash and kale in the fall, this market never fails me. I do notice that some days I come with the solid shopping list in mind, only to be inspired by the fresh produce to change my weekly menus. Yesterday I got fresh eggs, aged cheese, radishes, green beans, mushrooms, cauliflower, a brisket sandwich, Flowers, and other odds and ends. I'd also make a specific shout out to the Door County fruit vendor that never fails to bring a smile to my face.
