vegan BLT with eggplant "bacon" was extremely noteworthy!
Will T.

A great find for vegetarians and vegans. Wife and I loved the hipster farm kitchen decor. Kate was gregarious and friendly. The food was wholesome and quite good. My wife had a wrap which was good. But the real winner was the vegan BLT with the eggplant "bacon" . . . I am already dreaming of having it again. Also, the potato salad was INSANEly good. The vegan cookies were a nice finishing touch. Give this place a try!

All natural, all organic, all delicious food made fresh... And by fresh I mean you can watch them making it as you place your order. Plus, everyone there greeted us with a genuine smile. The lemon chicken orzo soup was the best lemon chicken soup I've ever had. Chicken pesto sandwich was seasoned just right and the soba noodles were fantastic. If you are in the area, don't miss this place.

Menu at Green is Good by Kate. Only downside- not 100% vegan but great vegan options.

What an adorable cafe and the food was delicious! I had the VBLTA - vegan eggplant sandwich. It was spicy and delicious. Layered with eggplant bacon, lettuce, tomato and ancho chili aioli. Very tasty! Then I had a side of pasta salad with pasta, spinach, olives and artichokes. It was really flavorful. I am going to take the vegan blonde brownie to go and I can update on how great that is. They also had a vegan black bean soup that I will have to try another time. So many delicious things that I will definitely be back. They don't get the 5th star for not being 100% vegan and for no other reason. The place is cute, clean and delicious vegan food offerings in Crown Point Indiana.

What a breath of fresh air for South Lake County! Tucked away in a little corner store in Crown Point (used to be a Domino's YEARS ago) this little gem awaits! They have multiple Vegan/Vegetarian items to offer... might I suggest the Creamy Potato Salad & Black Bean soup? Absolutely divine! The interior is cozy with a bright & fresh atmosphere, the kitchen is open so you can see all that is going on. Kate is a lovely lady with a knack for culinary goodness... if you have a chance to stop by, DON'T pass it up!

The venue delivered chaos, incompetence, and humiliation rather than the wedding we trusted them to provide. From the start, setup was a nightmare. Rhonda made the experience unnecessarily difficult. She tried to squeeze us into only half of the hall, despite our clear agreement and guest count. She continuously argued about how we chose to set things up and even questioned our food selections, decisions that were already finalized and paid for. We did not hire Rhonda as our planner / decorator so it came as a complete shock to have her interfering with so many of our choices. What should have been a smooth, joyful setup quickly turned into a frustrating experience due to her overstepping and lack of respect for our plans. She repeatedly refused to allow us to set up our own equipment, and only after escalating to the owner were we finally permitted to proceed. This kind of disorganization at the outset set the tone for the event The food was an embarrassment. Cold, bland, and generic, it tasted like frozen banquet hall food. We chose family-style service, yet there weren't even enough pieces of chicken for each table. Guests were disappointed, and it was humiliating to serve such subpar meals on what should have been a celebratory day. The staff's behavior was blatantly unprofessional. During the ceremony, speeches AND first dances, employees were laughing and talking in the back, forcing multiple guests to ask them to quiet down. Then came the issue with the ID, which was completely unnecessary and humiliating. Not a single guest, including my husband and all of my bridesmaids, was asked for identification. Yet I, the bride, was singled out on the dance floor and publicly demanded to show ID, which was in the bridal suite since I wasn't carrying a purse. I calmly offered to go retrieve it, but instead I was ordered to dump out my drink in front of everyone. Already embarrassed and trying not to make a scene, I did as instructed, feeling like my night had been completely ruined. As I stood there, the operations manager / bartender, and several employees watched and whispered as if I had done something wrong. It was degrading, uncalled for, and completely unprofessional. Even after the reception ended and we were tearing down THE NEXT DAY, staff continued to harass me and family members for identification. To make matters worse, the security guard on duty was drinking on the job. This selective and disrespectful treatment was invasive and unacceptable. Every staff member was tipped reasonably, so this behavior was not about compensation. It appears to be ingrained negligence and poor leadership from management. This venue is utterly unprofessional. Between the disorganized setup, terrible food, disruptive staff, unsafe security practices, and the humiliating selective ID enforcement, our wedding was marred by stress, embarrassment, and frustration rather than joy. I strongly advise any couple to avoid this venue entirely if you expect your wedding day to be handled with professionalism or respect.

Everyone we worked with was so kind and professional. They were able to accommodate different dietary restrictions which was so nice especially considering the groom's family was vegetarian. Without asking, they made sure to make one of our prosciutto pizzas without prosciutto to provide to the groom's family table. The set-up and tear-down was so seamless on the day of our wedding. Thanks for helping give us the wedding of our dreams! If we had one piece of feedback, it's that the menu wasn't completely accurate regarding which items were vegetarian. For example, the harvest salad was listed as vegetarian, but when we asked about it at our tasting, the nuts in the salad are cooked in beef tallow. It was very easy to order the salad without nuts, but we're glad we asked, otherwise we wouldn't have known. And the ooey-gooey butter cake is not listed as a vegetarian item on the menu, but when we asked to confirm, we were told it was vegetarian. This ended up being very minor in the scheme of things, but just think updating the labeling would make things clearer. Overall, everything worked out perfectly on the day and we're so glad to have worked with them!

We used to absolutely love this company. From the restaurant and open communication to the food tasting and overall experience, everything was wonderful leading up to our wedding day. Unfortunately, that experience was not reflected day of. We are extremely disappointed with how things unfolded at our wedding on October 17. Quite frankly, the only part of the day that went as expected was cocktail hour. Beyond that, we experienced SO many issues that left us feeling frustrated, disappointed, and honestly heartbroken. What makes this entire situation even more upsetting is the complete lack of communication and effort to resolve the issues we experienced. We have been trying to get in touch with someone at Wooden Paddle for the past two weeks and have received nothing back. The lack of response has been incredibly underwhelming, essentially nonexistent, and, quite frankly, extremely unprofessional. We understand that things can go wrong, but how a company handles those mistakes and communicates with its customers afterward speaks volumes. We expected accountability, acknowledgment, and a willingness to address our concerns, but instead, we have been left feeling ignored and completely disappointed. After trusting this company with such an important day in our lives, we never imagined we would be left feeling this way. We believe these issues deserve to be addressed, and we want to share the specific things that went wrong: Pizza Quality: Burnt, undercooked and both on singular pies. Many pizzas were inedible and were not touched. Delivery Timing: 1. Time between pizza deliveries were VERY VERY long. 2. Some tables were on pizza 3 before others even had gotten to 2. 3. We are unsure as to whether all 4 pizzas got served. Some guests have stated that they had never recieved all options. Coffee & Tea Add-on Station: Not set up until I had to ask a member of staff to set it up. A service we paid EXTRA for. Dietary Pizzas: 3/5 Dietary pizzas were incorrect. We were told that they never recieved the orders; however, orders were confirmed via email with Brianna DAYS before event. Table Clearing: New, full drinks were being cleared away and guests were becoming frustrated with constantly having to get new ones. Excuses: Staff told our day-of point person that the reason everything ran behind was because of "traffic". The Wooden Paddle team was there when we had arrived at 1P; which was EARLY compared to the 1:30/2P setup time we were initially informed of; by both a previous (no longer employeed) WP Catering Sales Manager and our Venue Coordinator. We are truly heartbroken that this was our experience with a company we once loved and trusted. We understand that things can go wrong, but the lack of communication and effort to make things right has made an already disappointing experience even worse. We hope Wooden Paddle takes our feedback seriously and understands how important it is to provide couples with the experience and service they deserve, especially on a day as important as their wedding.

A Disappointing Birthday Dinner -- Poor Service, Confusing Charges, and No Hospitality…read more I recently visited Cappo's Italian Restaurant in Portage, Indiana, with my husband and stepdaughter to celebrate my birthday. Unfortunately, what should have been a pleasant evening turned into a very disappointing experience. I was born in New York City and have traveled extensively around the world, enjoying Italian cuisine in many different places. I appreciate good food, but I also believe that hospitality and customer service are just as important. I ordered a 10-inch gluten-free cauliflower vegetable pizza, which was extremely underwhelming and lacked flavor. My husband ordered the cod fish dinner, and my stepdaughter and I shared a New York cheesecake for dessert. I only had one bite of the cheesecake, but it was good. The real frustration began when the bill arrived. My pizza was listed at $13.99, with additional charges for every individual vegetable topping. Before ordering, I specifically asked our waitress, Donna, whether there was a price difference for the gluten-free pizza, and she told me no. Yet the bill reflected charges I had not expected. When I questioned the bill, I spoke with an older blonde hostess, who said she would check with the manager. She returned a couple of minutes later and told me the bill was correct. Shortly afterward, Donna came back and acknowledged that the bill was wrong. She went to speak with her boss, and after approximately 10 minutes, she never returned to explain what had happened. Instead, the hostess simply dropped off the bill. No explanation, no apology, and no effort to make things right. Beyond the food and billing issues, the overall atmosphere was unpleasant. The staff appeared unhappy, rushed, and irritated. There were no welcoming smiles or warmth. At one point, a waitress dropped a tray of water, and my husband got wet. She simply continued walking without even offering an apology. I understand restaurants get busy and mistakes happen. However, courtesy, professionalism, and accountability should never be optional. What disappointed me most was that this was my birthday dinner. I wasn't expecting special treatment, just a good meal, honest pricing, and a welcoming environment where my family and I could enjoy our time together. A restaurant's success isn't just about getting customers through the door; it's about giving them a reason to return. Unfortunately, Cappo's gave me none. I will not be returning, and I sincerely hope management takes customer service and hospitality more seriously in the future.

From the very beginning, we knew FFT was the right vendor for us because they took our favorite foods and crafted a completely customized menu perfectly tailored to what we enjoyed and what we envisioned for the event. From there, they then worked with us to refine the menu as we kept coming up with crazy ideas. We literally emailed Anna about how we had just tasted a delicious Oreo brownie and she had it added to our desserts right away. We also wanted a very custom bar menu, and they worked with us to get us all the different brands we were looking for, going so far as to drive to Indiana to source some of them. The other aspect of their menu that made such an impact was all the interactive food stations. Everything is so creatively presented and designed. At our tasting, Anna had literally taken elements of our décor and paper goods and other motifs and woven them throughout the presentations from custom serving trays to glass designs. Everything felt intentional and thought out. Guests were constantly praising this attention to detail. Every station had some element of action to it as well, making everything feel like a unique experience. In all of this, the food was all delicious. We wish we can eat and experience it all over again. We still dream of Chef Arlene's Guava and Cheese Empanadas. Throughout the process, Anna was extremely easy to work with and very responsive. One thing we wanted to highlight was that we wanted to be very careful with allergens. Despite the high number of dishes, Anna did a fantastic job working to highlight all the possible allergens in every item, taking the request very seriously. We also wanted to praise the service for the actual day-of catering. They had their full team there, and the professional service was fantastic from top to bottom. Our guests praised the food endlessly, and people who were planning their wedding wanted to know all the background details into our catering choice. That is just more proof that Food for Thought was the perfect caterer, and we couldn't have asked for anything more.
