Donation in Honolulu, Hawaii…read more.. Dropping off some excess clothing to The Salvation Army Thrift Store was simple. The donation area is located at the far corner of the property on Sumner Street. The entrance to the Thrift Shop is at the door closest to the entrance to the property. It's on the right side of the driveway. When the friendly worker accepted my donation, he offered to give me a receipt... sure! I'll take a tax write-off! Then, I took a look in the spacious, organized store. The orange tagged items were 50 percent off! Wow! What a deal! However, I had to go to my next errand. I'll be back!

They fed us 3 meals a day and helped my parents find employment and budget their money. Eventually they helped us get into Weinberg village transitional homeless shelter in Waimanalo. We left Weinberg after 2 years and started renting a home in Pearl city and eventually we had our finances set well enough that in 2017 we bought our first home together. I was so ashamed to say that I lived here when I was in high school but looking back on it today as a grown man I have to say that IHS was an absolute blessing for me and my family. I was looking for a place where I could donate some of my belongings that could be of better use…read morethan just sitting in my closet and drawers being unused, but I wanted to make sure the donation would go directly to the people in need right here in Hawaii. And specifically, to women and children in need. Surprisingly, I couldn't find many places that fit these specifications till I came across the the Women's & Family Shelter, an emergency shelter from the Institute for Human Services (IHS). IHS is an independent, local 501c3 nonprofit organization that makes sure 100% of all donations stays in Hawaii. Drop off was really simple. The donation drop off area is open Monday thru Friday from 0800-1600. You can park your vehicle temporarily right in front of the garage while you offload your items. On their website, there are 5 different ways you can help: 1. Monetary Donation. A link is provided on the website for your convenience. This can be a one time donation or you can set up a monthly donation. 2. An In-Kind Donation. The donation center is located around the corner of IHS at the garage entrance on Kaamahu Place. On the website " Wish List" you can find a list of what type of items are in need. Items needed are gently used clothing (all types) household toiletries (even makeup), school items, food, baby related items to name a few. Basically just think of what you use and need and eat on a daily basis to give yourself an idea of what you could donate to help another person/child. 3. Planned Giving, such as bequests from an estate plan or will, real estate, personal property, etc. 4. Cooperate and foundation giving, such as scholarships, grants, direct donations, etc. 5. Volunteer. There are many different types of volunteer opportunities, such as tutoring children, kitchen help, serving meals, working at the health clinic, sorting donations, etc. There's an opportunity for everyone to give in whatever form you choose. So instead of letting your drawers, closet, garage, shoe rack, etc get cluttered with unused or unwanted items, why not give it back to the community to help another person or child out? Or if you're not ready to part with your treasures a monetary gift is always appreciated. Donating my belongings not only made my house much tidier, but I was also happy knowing my items had a 2nd life while helping to meet the needs of a person/child right here in Hawaii.

I like that Helping Hands is truly a nonprofit organization because they don't sell your donated goods to the people who need them. People can come get the goods for free at helping hands. Staff were always very friendly and helpful with unloading my car. They are also very good about giving me the tax write off forms. (Salvation Army has you go to a website to get tax form and I couldn't even create an account successfully on the website. Kept getting error message.) Helping hands drop off times are Monday to Friday from 11 AM to 2 PM so the drop off window is pretty limited.

Shopping in Honolulu, Hawaii…read more.. I'm so happy to see Aunty Shirley again! She used to have a shop on Maunakea Street, next to Cindy's Lei Shop! She's so sweet, organized, efficient, and has a great memory! Now, she has two stalls (both sides of the aisle) at The Marketplace at City Square. Look for her at the end of the building, right before the restrooms! She offered to let me try on some dresses, but I will pass because the prices are so good! One piece is $7 and two pieces total $10! She also has 3 for $10 deals on t-shirts, golf shirts, and children's clothing! Take a look! You might find a vintage Tommy Bahama shirt for $12 or a Cooke Street Aloha Shirt for $10! Parking is free, so come on over!

Aunty's Ukay Ukay is located in Marketplace at City Square and thanks to Nadine C she showed me that there's this place who had relocated from Chinatown and have found a new home here and you'd never know as it's primarily known to shop for groceries and other relatable items. You just need to walk all the way in the back by the restrooms (which I had no idea they had) and you can't miss her with racks of all types of clothings. A simple set up but the variety for both adults and kids from shirts to dresses I was quite impressed of the choices she has and the prices are just so hard to resist as what makes an outfit is how you present it and with values like this you'd be looking fabulous at a great price. Helping hands every single day..:…read more Continuing to purge and free myself from things I no longer need I decided to search for Salvation Army and conveniently they have one right in Stadium Mall in Salt Lake. It's located all the way at the end beside Goodyear you'll immediately see a container for the drop off. Even on this Fourth of July like clockwork the staff is there ready to accept your items just as I was done another large truck drove right up and dropped off a huge load including a vacuum and other household items makes seeing the giving doesn't stop here is a pleasant sight to see. This Salvation Army Donation Center is a great location to quickly drop off your items with the largest lot to drive up and give is very easy and am grateful for this convenient location. Thank you!

The store is FOR profit, but does donate some items to a non for profit. This location offers some unusual merchandise due to the international population in Hawaii. I found several interesting paintings and vintage Christmas decor. My daughter likes to find craft supplies for the kids. The prices have gone way up on some merchandise since my visit last year. The store is well organized with most of the inventory being clothing. The parking on the lower level is hard to come by, but there is plenty of parking in the upstairs parking garage. If you donate something, they will give you a coupon for 20% off. Also, on Tuesdays, seniors receive 30% off. I've never bought anything after several visits. Time would be better spent at the beach.

Every time I've gone, there's been a worker there who responds quickly and comes over to my car with a rolling cart to help collect donations. They always ask me if I need a receipt for donation purposes. It's quick and simple and I don't have to do much more than unload my trunk. I've never been behind more than one car, and usually there's no line at all. Easy, helpful spot to donate your goods or to buy new-to-you items.

It is hard to rate IHS. Recently, my work organization did a service project here to help with…read moresorting clothes. I write this review to spread words out there for IHS. They can always use helping hands. So if your organization such as work, church, or whatever it is, do contact IHS for good cause. I do understand that we have mixed emotion about homeless etc. but sometimes you do for people who are wanting to help who are in need. So think of it as you are helping the good people. I spent 3 hours on a Saturday and staff were so appreciative and offered us snacks and water. Oh I learned that this location is for women. IHS on Nimitz is for men. And I'm not going lie, when I got to this location to check in at the counter I didn't feel safe. But once I went inside the building and met with other volunteers I was okay.

The good thing about it is that it's covered... you can drop off your items even though it's raining! Enter and exit on Young Street. Just follow the signs! Collect a donation receipt before you leave! Easy!

National I AM day…read more.. A positive affirmation that we all need to remind ourselves more often than you'd realize and on this day I am focused to clear some unused items that I did in just minutes and dropped them off for donation at a neighborhood Goodwill. The positive feeling to reduce the stress of decluttering and making a space for myself to relax and enjoy it with moments to do what I enjoy and to donate them hoping it will go to someone who needs it. This Goodwill on Beretania is very convenient with a drive thru drop off and you're given a paper which you can claim in for your tax receipt though the feeling to help is always great and along with Goodwill we can make a difference. Thank you!
