I have worked with two other contractors recently, and I can honestly say that they don't come even remotely close to the quality of work that Carlos and his crew provided. Carlos and Victor remodeled my entire bathroom, removing and reinstalling new tile, a vanity, mirror, light fixture, toilet and other bathroom accessories in addition to spackling and painting. From start to finish, Carlos demonstrated an extreme attention to detail and a genuine commitment to making sure everything was done properly. He does not cut corners, and he takes the time to do things the right way even when it requires extra effort. For example, he noticed that my bathroom floor was not properly leveled, something that could have easily been overlooked or simply worked around. Instead, he took the time to correct the problem and make sure everything was properly leveled before continuing with the project. He even painted door trim outside of my bathroom to make sure it transitioned well with the bathroom, something that was not his responsibility. That level of care and thoroughness is exactly what you hope for in a contractor. The spackling and painting were absolutely immaculate. I have hired professional painters in the past who did not come close to the quality of the paint job Carlos delivered. Painting is 90% prep work: sanding and spackling. You can tell when a contractor understands the difference prep work makes, and Carlos and his group certainly does. Carlos and his crew were also kind, respectful, professional, and a pleasure to have working in my home. They were extremely conscientious about keeping everything clean throughout the project. In fact, I commented to my husband that my house looked cleaner after they left than it did before they started! Another thing that really stood out to me was the pricing. His prices are more than fair considering the quality of work, attention to detail, and level of care he provides. You TRULY feel that Carlos takes pride in his work and wants his customers to be completely satisfied with the finished product. It is VERY rare to find that these days. We felt totally comfortable with him in our home. Our 4 year old son kept asking where Lou was after the project was completed. Lou worked around us when it came to hours that worked best for our family. Our kids love their bedrooms. And our 4 year old son finally sleeps in his own bed. We will be calling Joe when we are ready to remodel our kitchen and bathrooms.

DISASTER. Turn and run. We hired Joe for a large 203K project. We had problems from the very…read morebeginning: he was slow to start, kept changing his mind about the game plan, complained about the fact that he could get no money up front--terms of the 203K that he had of course agreed to--and pressured us to give him significant up-front money to "help him start". He instructed me in June of 2024 to rush to buy materials for a small bathroom that was still mostly unfinished in April of 2025; that kind of thing happened multiple times. His workers were inadequately supervised, and he was difficult to reach, often saying things like I'm at a kid's soccer game, out to dinner with my daughter, etc. The way that 203K's work is that HUD inspectors come out at regular intervals to make sure that adequate work has been done to make a draw from the total budget. Joe did a bunch of stuff merely to look busy to justify the first draw, in August: a slap-dash exterior paint job over crumbling paint that made a mess and did not hold, for instance. Between the first and the second draw, there was slow but meaningful progress--but by then we were 5 months into a job that we were told would take 4-6 months, and nowhere near done. During much of that 3-month interval he had just one guy working on our huge project, an electrician. After the second draw, in late November, he basically just stopped working on the house. We were making double housing payments the whole time, of course, so we panicked. We were almost out of money. After numerous calls and messages failed to get him to pick up the pace, at the urging of our lender, we scheduled a third draw, 3 months after the second one. At that draw, the HUD inspector certified that no work had been done, so no funds would be paid out. That's when we finally worked up the nerve to fire him. It was terrifying, because our lender told us that we would have trouble getting anyone to take on such a large project with only what was left in the budget after Joe depleted it. By the grace of God, we did find one. He swept in and got the job done in about 4 months. We finally moved in almost exactly one year after closing. Of course we had two mortgage payments the whole time. The work could have been finished within 6 months, or close to it, if we had found a great contractor like the one we found after we fired Mr. Depiano. Working with Mr. Depiano was harrowing. We were newbs at this, and therefore easy to fool. DON'T MAKE OUR MISTAKE.

We chose Pine Street for a full house remodel (replacing electric, plumbing, major structural…read morerevisions) of an historical home in the West Chester borough. Our primary objective was the highest quality work that would preserve the historical aspect of the home, but fully modernized and at the lowest reasonable cost. Nearly three years since we engaged them and we continue to feel like that was the best decision we could have possibly made. The essential things that made this experience wonderful for us, particularly as first-time home renovators, were the detailed planning and rigorous project management, the quality of craftsmanship and expert network, and the incredibly warm professionalism and care of the team. In sum, they delivered below our initial cost projections and ahead of time -- nearly the opposite of all the horror stories we've heard about some of the other crews. In the beginning, it was a very difficult decision to choose Pine Street. Their cost projections were higher than their competitors by A LOT. I nearly dismissed them because of it. But the level of detail and thoughtfulness in the bid really won me over. When I questioned competitors about some of the detail included in the PS bid, they would always respond that if that happened, they would need to increase costs, etc. It really made me worry about what final costs would eventually be and I ultimately chose PS for their transparency and integrity. Perhaps the best element of the entire project was the onsite project manager. This is a person who will be your main point of contact throughout, who will have all of the answers and will ultimately know your home better than you do. This is an enormous gift and a real relief in what would otherwise be a stressful time. Ours would call us proactively, make great suggestions and recommendations (things that you just don't know as you begin, but that are revealed as you get started). For example, he had a piece of reclaimed barn wood in his garage that he used as an accent piece in a stairwell or, in another case, was able to use parts of the existing rafters as trim in the bedroom. These little things feel brilliant when you're trying to preserve the feel of the home and keep costs low -- and these are simply things we never could have anticipated in the planning stage. This role in your remodel can really magnify the experience as a client. Another aspect to consider is that Pine Street has cultivated a network of people they trust over years of experience and working together. Every single person who came through our house was knowledgeable, respectful and responsive. The team would not have allowed it to be any other way. Further, at the end of the project, they gave us a portfolio of contact information for each person that had worked on the house, so if anything goes wrong or we need some additional work, we have a network of folks that know the house and that we know we can trust (and who, by the way, will be very quick to respond out of respect for their relationship with Pine Street). Finally, the part that is hardest to articulate, is the warm professionalism that the team brings. You'll feel it first with Brendon when you call with your first inquiry, but you'll leave feeling nearly astonished that the entire team carries it forward: problems will be addressed and solved before you even hear about them; the site will be clean at the end of every day without fail; the team will stop what they're doing when you enter to make sure you can see and understand the steps that are being taken (and they never got impatient with our very frequent visits). Again, all things we didn't know before we started but ended up defining the quality of our experience. It is an important decision to choose the right partner in these efforts. I can get easily stressed out by the volume of decisions that need to be made and was vigilant about costs and timing. The Pine Street team exceeded most of our expectations and left us knowing we made absolutely the right decision.

After a nightmare contractor experience to begin, I was confident when I then hired Red Hammer I would be in good hands. Matt's was one of several estimates I sought, and pricing was all over the place. Matt's bid was competitive and fair, and he demonstrated a depth of knowledge and familiarity that made me immediately comfortable hiring him. Due to scheduling conflicts with another contractor installing a deck for me, I threw Matt a few curveballs. At least twice I had to ask him to move his start date, and when his team did arrive, the deck contractors were totally in his way. Throughout, Matt was patient and focused on his work. The guys he brought with him worked tirelessly over four days to excavate, remove old materials, prepare proper drainage missing from the old wall, rebuild the wall with new EP Henry pavers and regrade the area around the new wall - as well as around my driveway.
