Popped in to Green Chili in between hockey games while in Calgary for a tournament. We didn't realize it was a "to-go" place but it sure smelled good so we decided to go ahead and order to take back to our hotel. The gentleman behind the counter was friendly and expedient. I noticed they had a sign up for an app you can order on and save 10% as well! Get back to the hotel about 20 minutes later and OH EM GEE. It was sooooo freaking good and reasonably priced! We also ordered a beef vindaloo but I forgot to take a pic. The mango chicken was DELICIOUS!!!! The garlic naan was perfection. All the meats were tender and just right. We will 100 percent be coming back here anytime we are staying nearby in Calgary. PS We should have ordered more than one rice however. Rice prices were reasonable - white, coconut, and saffron. Disappointment is the first word that comes to my mind. I ordered takeout to fulfill my craving for Indian food, which happens almost weekly. I ordered online and went over to pick it up 45 minutes later. When I got home, which was 7 minutes, I was first disappointed to find the small tamarind sauce container wasn't even half full. I mean, I was pleasantly surprised to find about a dozen pakoras in the brown paper bag, but they are useless without the sauce, as they were so dry my wife and I couldn't swallow even the smallest bite. That was a fail! The next disappointment was how cold everything was. We had to heat each serving in the microwave. The order was just being bagged when I got to the restaurant and I was only 7 minutes to my house, and we ate it immediately. Not freezing cold, but barely lukewarm. I have eaten at their dine-in Crowfoot location at least 4 times and have always enjoyed it, but this location, which only offers takeout, was an epic disappointment. We have eaten at many Indian restaurants in Calgary and this is the first time we have had a bad experience. read more

The food was overall just ok... until I found a foreign object that I was chewing on. Turned out to be some kind of foil sticker or label of some sort. I had the saffron rice, tasted the same as steamed rice. The palak paneer was ok and the baingan bharta was disappointing. Wouldn't order from here again, there are other much better Indian restaurants in town. read more

The Sunday buffet is pretty good. Pilau rice Papadum Salad bar Chick Pea Curry Lentil Curry Cauliflower and Potato Curry Beef curry Butter Chicken Tandoori Chicken Fresh naan brought to your table Desserts - gulab jamun, fresh fruit Chai Tea Really fresh. This is the second location of Green Chili that I've tried. They only offer takeout and delivery. I walked in to order and didn't receive the friendliness greeting, in fact the man at the front ignored me at first. Eventually he acknowledged me and I ordered my food. He said it would be about 45 minutes, I said I would come back. I returned promptly, my food was waiting for me. I paid and left, no "have a nice day" or "enjoy your food" from the guy. When I got home, which is about 15 minutes away, my food was already cold. Thank goodness for microwaves! The taste and flavour of the food was good. Its safe to say that I probably won't order from here again, the food was good, but there are other places I'd rather go. read more

What an interesting concept: An Indian on-line restaurant that delivers Indian fare right to your door. I didn't think it could get better than this when I decided to try these guys out over the weekend. Unfortunately, the idea is a lot better than the food they actually deliver. When the food arrived, it was so greasy that I could barely distinguish one dish from the next. The food was WAY too greasy and a little too spicy to enjoy. And trust me, if I'm saying it's too spicy, it's because it really IS too spicy. Greenchili.ca was a one time deal for me. Been there, done that, never again. read more

This is a takeout ONLY restaurant just so you know. 2 chicken dishes, bread, pakoras, and rice came to $50 !!! And their interac pay terminal is set up to harass you for a tip !!! Sorry, I'm not tipping when its PICKUP and exorbitantly priced!! The food itself was AVERAGE. The dishes, in my opinion, were spiced properly, however all were too oily, and the chicken dishes had literally about 7 chunks of gumball sized chicken --- for $13 ?!?!?!? I just cant recommend this place mainly because of the prices, and the only average food. read more

Another neighborhood classic, I like this place! Its takeout only which is too bad as I don't like to get takeout because of all the garbage. So I've eaten at Saigon Y2K more than is healthy and here only twice. I like the butter chicken and lamb korma. Those are my favorites. I like both, especially the Korma more than other places I've been in Calgary. We've had some other lentil and vegetable dishes and they've been good too. Real naan is a must, yum. read more

Girlfriend wanted Indian tonight and I was excited for some flavourful and spicy food, we tried Green Chilli since it was so close. The Goat curry didn't have much meat in it with the largest pieces actually being bone chunks with no meat on them. Both our potato and our vegetable dishes were lacking on potatoes and vegetables with an overwhelming amount of sauce. It was hard to distinguish from the dishes as they all tasted quite similar while the samosas were disappointing, leaving us unsatisfied. read more

I ordered Take-out from the green chili and found the price to be very expensive for the amount of food you receive. It came to be around $80 for 3 dishes, Naan, rice and 4 cans of pop. The food was good, but not the best i have had. read more

Greasy, overpriced food that was cold on arrival. The garlic naan was made with chunks of garlic that put a bad taste in your mouth. Poor quality malai kofta with not a lot of kofta and too much pale, greasy sauce. read more

So. We found ourselves in Calgary for a conference. After 3000 miles of flying, we wanted something local, spiritd, but unfussy. We stopped in to a number of small local restauraunts, but when we went in to Green Chili, the rich mix of aromas said "This is the place." It IS Indian take out. There are no hovering waiters. Just the heavenly spice smells, flashes of fire from the stove behind the kitchen door, a cheery cashier to take your order, and perhaps a hundred choices. We ordered naan, vegetable pakora apetizer, goat curry, and palak paneer. It's 4 star because - take out. Sorry. Would I go back? Try to stop me! Naan: hot and plenty. Vegetable pakora: basically Indian tempura, each ball was a harmonious mix of bold flavors, including the namesake green chili. Goat curry: BIG tender chunks of meat in a sauce that would be enough on its own Palak paneer: A brilliant green bowl of rich flavors, not a hint of the dreaded gray soup most restauraunts settle for. read more

I ordered take out from the location on crowchild beside Saigon y2k. We ordered naan, chicken korma, and butter chicken, as well as some milky bread type dessert that was recommended by the staff. The chicken korma was wonderful, couldn't stop eating it. The butter chicken was alright, the naan was good. The dessert thing was revolting, I'm not a dessert person, but it tasted like soggy bread soaked in sweet milk. Guess it might just be the texture or that I'm not used to it, but think I'll stick to the mains next time. read more

Probably the worst Indian food I have ever eaten. I had the butter chicken and it tasted exactly like tomato soup with a little bit of spice. The naan was extremely oily and the coconut rice was sub par. I was also waiting for my food inside and when the cook noticed I was sitting adjacent to the kitchen he quickly closed the door so I couldn't see the food prep. My question to that is what are you worried about? Me stealing a really bad recipe from you or me seeing the kind of food your serving. I think sobeys sells a better brand of food called Alpo and probably tastes 10 times better. read more

Johnny, the owner is recognized as probably the best Indian cook in the city by people from India. I first tried his food about 15 years ago when he was cook at the Maurya (don't expect the same quality now you will not find there anymore since he left about 9 years ago for a brief stint in Philadelphia). From there he gave real definition to the Samosa Grill in Sunridge and later the Namskar. When he cooks you will taste none finer, maybe equal, but not finer. read more
