The house provided a structured and spiritual environment with clear rules, accountability, and support. Everyone was expected to stay sober, participate in recovery meetings, and work toward rebuilding their lives. During my time there I was able to stabilize my recovery and prepare for the next step of living independently. I'm grateful for the time I spent there and the structure it provided during an important part of my recovery. If I meet others who are serious about their recovery and looking for a structured sober living environment, I would absolutely recommend Olive Branch House." -- Forever grateful Me

I had a very negative experience at this residence. The house manager was engaging in inappropriate…read morerelationships with female residents and allowing certain individuals to stay for free in exchange for sexual favors. His behavior was highly unprofessional and made the environment uncomfortable and unsafe ESPECIALLY when trying to stay sober. When I made it clear that I was not interested in any relationship with him, he told me I had 15 minutes to leave, which is why I had to leave so quickly. He frequently made inappropriate comments and showed clear favoritism toward the women who were sexually involved with him.

Boysville Auxiliary Thrift is a spot that I frequent a lot. I would say I come to this spot maybe…read morethree or four times a month. It is big and they have a variety of goods to sell. My favorite thrift in the spot is the books. They are very reasonably priced and you can get quite a few or under a dollar, which is pretty impossible in a lot of other thrift stores. The staff here is friendly and helpful. They have a little boutique section in the front where they keep the newer clothing with tags, and more designer wise items. I do think some of their prices are on the higher end, which is disappointing when you're trying to get some affordable items. Clothing, however, it's usually reduced, so along with the books a good purchase. Not so much their purses, and some of their other accessories. It's worth a visit to search through their treasures and find some good thrifts. This is not my favorite thrift store, but it will be some of the goodwill prices in a pinch.

Boysville has been around since the 1940s. It's a home for boys and girls who, for one reason or…read moreanother, need a place to stay. Boysville takes a holistic approach to the care and well-being of a child, regardless of age or developmental stage. The organization is dedicated to helping as many of San Antonio's youth as they can, providing housing, clothing, food, education, finance management, and other key aspects of "growing up" to the almost 100 residents. The organization also holds an annual fundraiser (usually in August every year) to help bring in needed funding for programs for the kids. It costs about $100 per day to raise a child at Boysville. The staff takes extra care to make sure that every child gets a shot at as normal a life as possible: they take them Christmas gift shopping in December, hold Thanksgiving dinner in November, have other outings and excursions throughout the year, while providing a safe, stable, and structured environment for them to grow and learn. I've had the pleasure of knowing and working with Boysville for the past 5 years, and it never gets old. While I don't work directly with the residents I know that every little bit helps, and that's what Boysville is all about. It takes a village to raise a child, and with almost 100 children it takes a little help from all of us. Twitter: @Boysville - http://www.twitter.com/Boysville
