I had a horrible experience with this company from the beginning, which you can read about below. But ultimately, since getting out of the lease was so expensive, I hung in there for the last 4+ years and awaited my lease term to end. However, GreatAmerica failed to notify me when my lease term ended, so I continued paying each month for outdated equipment until I realized that I could actually end the lease. When I inquired why GreatAmerica hadn't notifed me at the end of my lease term, they responded that it was my responsibility to notify them. Of course! Yet another deceptive tactic to continue the lease in perpetuity while I pay an inflated rate for outdated equipment. Business owners should beware before doing business with this company. read more

I recently purchase a piece of equipment thru Advance Auto who uses this predatory bank for these loans. I did not fully understand that this is a 'full sum' loan for 60 months which will cost 1.5 times the equipment purchas. I cannot pay-off early to reduce the interest amount. Sandra the loan officer re-explained it to me that I can payoff early, except it will be full amount no reductions! Buyer Beware! My experience almost exactly replicates what Lazaro M. reviewed on 12/12/23. Wow. I could not believe how closely his experience duplicated ours. We are 4 years in to a 5 year contract that was bait and switch from the beginning. We were contacted by a local company, Applied Imaging, and promised $139/month "all in" for 1000 black/365color copies per month but unfortunately we did not read the fine print (lesson learned: when the fine print is longer than the contract, run away). We trusted our local company, which was also a mistake. Applied Imaging sold the lease to Great America and refers me to them for any corrective actions. Great America customer service has been trained to drag out conversations, we will get a request in for you, yada yada. We also got invoices late, exactly as Lazaro described, and were then assessed late fees. We called to correct this and it got better until they reverted to this a few months later. We then called again and currently getting them in time. We also called them out on the color copy counter which said we printed over 100 pages of color per day on the one copy machine. We stopped using color printing and were still assessed over our monthly amount of 365 pages. We called them out on it and magically our color copy numbers on our invoice dropped the next month. I believe them to be criminal, not just merely unethical. Our monthly average over the 4 years is over $260/month. So we have over $12,500 into this and the current buyout is $3887. Our company signed an agreement to lease two copiers with DEX Imaging. Unknown to us they sold the lease to Great America Financial Services. The lease does not have the signature of DEX Imaging and we never received a copy of the lease. We were sent a copy via email once we requested a copy earlier this year. The copy of the lease that was sent to us is not fully executed. We sent Great America a notice of non-renewal on 08/25/2023. They didn't notify us of any charges until 11/27/2023. At which time, they sent us an amount that we owe if we want to keep the equipment and another if we return the equipment. They will not provide us with the return address until we pay them what they demand we pay them. Therefore, we are not able to even calculate if returning the equipment is the right thing for us to do financially. Additionally, I requested accounting records of our account from inception to current and a breakdown on how they came to the amount due to return the equipment (and purchase it) and they said they referred it to their legal team. They refuse to give us a breakdown. To make matters worse I see in the agreement that if we do not return the equipment by 12/27/23 that the term renews. We believe they are purposely lengthening out the contract to get it to renew which is also the reason why they didn't send us this information sooner. They have numerous complaints for unfair business practices. Their unwillingness to provide our company with the return address, until their arbitrary balance is paid off, is a clear indication that they feel they may not be able to collect their balance if additional steps are taken to dispute the amount. Our dispute should not allow the agreement to renew in perpetuity. Furthermore, they have a practice of printing their monthly invoices on the 4th of the month (in our case) and they are not received by our company until 8-10 days after the printed date. This has been the case from the beginning of the lease. The invoice at time is not received until the 14th of the month only allowing our company 13 days to process the invoice and have the payment reach their office. Their delay in sending invoices out in a timely fashion is clearly done in an effort to accrue late fee income for their own benefit. The various issues experienced by our company and dozens of others (according to online reviews) clearly shows a pattern of unfair business practices to defraud their customers monetarily. read more

My company has worked with GreatAmerica Financial for over a decade. I run a leasing company. They are a top notch and unlike what other reviews indicate ethical leasing company. One of the very best out there. When a customer signs an equipment lease they are responsible for the full payments. If the lease is a true lease then yes, it will continue month to month if not notified. Just like if a rental car was not returned another day would be charged. Stellar company! read more

Terrible company. I wish we had checked yelp before getting into business with them. Read the reviews, educate yourself and choose wisely. You will note that the owner jumps in but nothing is ever resolved. I suspect it's a PR move. We are being held hostage by a local vendor who will not present our printer, repair it or service it and Great America who will not even comment on the vendor, force the vendor to service the machine or allow us to cancel without slapping a bunch of fines and all the remaining payments. This company does not act in good faith. Beware. It looks like there are enough upset customers (and evidence) here to put together a claim against them. read more

Matt at GreatAmerica reached out to me to discuss. I sent him a follow up clarifying our insurance broker went in circles trying to get our insurance submitted. I attached the email string to my response, showing our agent submitted the docs 6/7/21, received a response requesting the agreement number 6/10/21, our agent resubmitting right away 6/10/21, receiving a follow up response asking for the agreement number five days later 6/15/21 even though it was on the document, highlighted. It took another email from our agent, clearly conveying his frustration to get things resolved. On top of this our agent and my spouse made multiple phone calls. Matt stated "the troubles you were having with Assurant were invisible to us" because Assurant is a 3rd party they use for insurance. In the supporting emails I provided it showed my agent on the first attempt did not include the agreement number but corrected it, responded within minutes but five days later was again told to include the agreement number. Matt provided a copy of the section where it states the agreement is non-cancellable. I do not dispute that my spouse did not do a good job reviewing the documents. Matt stated the agreement was a lease, but the paperwork states we own the property while making payments, there is no reference to it being a lease, there is no buyout at the end, terms to return the property or anything a standard lease has. Matt did not comment on the issues I had trying to make online payments. In my response to him I told him when I tried to do it online it said my account couldn't be located. Each month I tried to make the payment online but eventually had to call. The fee for a phone call payment was waved. Three months in I finally realized GreatAmerica had my zip code wrong and that is why my online account couldn't be located. Again, I do not dispute my husband signed a contract, he agreed to these terms. I am writing this review to warn others. Go with a real bank, who may charge you a prepayment penalty but who doesn't force you to pay the entire balance if you want to move the loan. Or be prepared for what you are getting into. Go with a real bank that isn't going to give you the run around month after month until you are so frustrated you seek other financing. The entire thing has left me feel like they scammed him, like they do these things on purpose to waste the buyers time, cause frustration, try to collect insurance charges by playing games. This was a very costly mistake for my husband. After the 3 months of hassle this company should have been paying me, my husband, and my agent for the hoops we had to jump. Stay away. Read all the bad reviews. They play the same games with everyone. Their contracts are unfavorable at every level for the buyer. My husband rushed into this over a weekend because it was 3 hours away and he couldn't locate this equipment at a local dealer. read more

Over the last couple of decades, I have leased various copiers successfully from FrontierBusiness Products in Denver, who then routinely sells their notes to GreatAmerica without notice. The most recent lease was a Ricoh2004 - from the start - never worked properly. Copying and scanning were ok but the printer could not communicate through any computer for printing. I had one old computer we could print from because it was on windowsXP but as soon as Microsoft stopped supporting XP - the machine was no longer a printer. Only copies, and scans. Soon - that failed to work too. I tried to get them to service it, but at that point - Frontier in Denver had sold the note to GreatAmerica Finance out of IOWA Great America's ONLY job was to collect payment. They did not care if the equipment worked or not. I was instructed to hire my own "IT" person and I was on my own. FrontierBusiness also denied responsibility and refused to service it. I was still continuously paying both of them without having a functioning piece of equipment. Finally I did hire my own IT person - and was told it needed a new motherboard, and that is why it would not communicate with any computers. It was also suggested it was 'disabled' remotely. The Whole reason I leased this equipment is so that I would not have to worry about maintenance and repairs. Each time I called each company - Frontier or GreatAmerica - they each conveniently blamed the other. in early 2020 - with less than a year left on the lease - I asked GreatAmerica to come and get their faulty equipment. Instead - what they did - was shocking. GreatAmerica - with Frontier's full support - GreatAmerica pretended to have me served at my office March 25 2020 -AT THE HIEGHT OF THE PANDEMIC. I had not stepped foot in my office in moths - regardless they committed perjury and convinced their small town LINN IOWA Judge I was served by certified mail and she issued a judgement for over $4000 on a $637 balance. Then - they swifty served my bank and stole the money right out of my operating account. I even had a letter from USPS claiming it was never delivered. Didn't matter. I've never been to Iowa or done business with anyone in Iowa - but apparently - according to Frontier - they were legally entitled to sell the note to this Iowa company - and they routinely do so with most ALL of their contracts. Kelly Iverson - a manager at Frontier - even sent me a copy of the contract and told me to scour the small print for that assignability clause. Very clever - considering when they breach their contract - it is no longer a Colorado Contract - It is now an IOWA contract - and their small town farming judge - will never rule against LINN County's LARGEST employer - GreatAmerica - who hires LINN County's largest law firm. So if you think you are leasing someone else's copier equipment with a service agreement - you really are not. If your copier breaks down, and you stop paying for inoperable equipment that both companies refuse to address... you might just find yourself with a LINN County IOWA court Judgement and bank garnishment. They took it to that level SO FAST - and were so sneaky about it. GreatAmerica - and specifically Jim Ray - is and unethical predator who will commit fraud against you for a few bucks. His misogynist and bully tactics when out in the 80's but nobody told him. I guess that's how they still do things in IOWA. The CEO himself - supported this decision to lie in court - and ghosted me. BEWARE - and contact me directly if you want details and receipts. RICOH Copier CODE SC672-00 look it up. It is a very expensive fix NOT included in your lease. read more

Beware of this company. Their contract will get you every step of the way and is very dishonest. You must cancel your printer lease 60 days in advance or they will bill you 2 months automatically to close out your lease if you wait till the weeks before your lease is up. They won't tell you where to ship the printer until you paid out their "quote" and if you refuse to they will never tell you where to ship the printer and will bill you to the end of time until you pay. Absolutely crazy that they take you hostage like that. You are also responsible for shipping your printer back which we had no idea. Also don't forget to be 2 days late on your payment or they will charge you 20$+ dollars automatically. They are one of the worst companies to work with. read more

This company is terrible. There contract terms are ridiculous! Financed a $5000 copier with them and have more insurance requirements then I do with the $45,000 car I am leasing. Overkill to the max! None of their customer service people have any kind of expertise other than reading what is in their contract. As others on this site have indicated their terms are "excessive" for the amount and value of the equipment they are leasing. Their lease agreement would have you think we are leasing the "Hope Diamond". Definitely much less regulatory finance companies out there. Will never use them again! read more

I too stand by the vendors whom help us and provide us with great service. Sadly, Great America is not one of those vendors. We utilize Great America for our finance company that finances our copy machines. Today marks yet another day where we've received nasty threatening phone calls from Jackie. Its funny how a client can be with them 10+ years, never have a late payment or even miss a payment for that matter, but then when you have some financial difficulties they flip their switch and are your worst nightmare. From Hot to Cold literally overnight... While following contract is not rocket science, showing some empathy and taking into consideration our solid track record should be a no brainer and should play a part in how a company values or undervalues its clients. Its really sad to see that loyalty and respect play little to no part in your day to day operations.. Be careful of this company. Should something ever happen where you miss a bill or two, lord knows they will be very quick to indicate how they will come and repossess everything and remind you that you are in legal default. read more

Customer Service lacks! Called to have some late fees waived due to COVID. My company's account has been in good standing, never late! Our office has been short staffed and the turn around time has been cut short on making payments but payments have been sent in just days before the due date. I was told by customer service that they could only have 50% of the late fees. What kind of company would not value their customers enough to waive a few late fees during a pandemic. There was no understanding on their part and I was basically told that COVID has been around since March and offices are back open since Aug. How the hell would they know when my office is back open. I can see by the other poor reviews this company is not held at a high standard and I look forward to taking my business elsewhere. read more

Horrible company to deal with, trying to return their equipment equipment at our end of lease, I have a shipping company all lined up to ship back but they won't provide a ship to address unless we fully payout the lease, which they can't even provide a invoice for, and it's been over a week of asking, calls, emails, seems no one knows what they are doing. So hard just to give them back their equipment and pay off the lease. If you lease through a vendor, be sure to check who the leasing company is and if its these guys... run away fast. read more

As many of you know, I often brag about and thank my great vendors. They are critical to our success. During our tough times, companies like Fry Communications (our printer), David S. Brown (our landlord), and Advance Business (our office equipment) have not only stood by us, but stepped up to help us. I try to show them appreciation as often as possible, just as I would do to our clients. I must also tell you when I have a bad experience. We leased our phone equipment through GreatAmerica Leasing Corporation. During this financial crisis, many companies stood by us. Not the people at GreatAmerica Leasing. I signed a personal guarantee, and they insist on enforcing that. If I don't pay it, they will charge us $77/month in late fees. And, I get mean-spirited calls monthly from their "customer service" department. You all have choices to make in what vendors you use. I do as well. I'll be forever committed to most of our suppliers. I will not use GreatAmerica Leasing Corporation again. read more

Refuses to provide information on where to return equipment. Last month of lease and we have paid every invoice on time. They will not tell us where the equipment must be returned until they get the last payment in an effort to get to charge us for an additional month. We had a small start-up that went out of business. Two months before going out of business I spoke to Great America Financial Services and tried to pay off our lease and return equipment. We almost came to an agreement but they went silent and I just sent them a check I could afford. They used the check against future monthly payments and when the credit dried up, I have been getting all kinds of threatening letters and calls. They do not care about customers or equipment. You try and do the right thing and they don't care. I would never recommend them and any size business would be better buying the fax and printers at your neighborhood electronics store. We had a lease with Great America Financial Services for software and equipment for 5 years. The lease was up and fully paid in July 2017, yet pursuant to the contract it is month to month should you fail to notify them. (what a scam that is) Unfortunatley, with the other bills we have it went un noticed. We continued to pay from July 2017 until now. They are absolutely financing nothing, nor paying any fees from these payments. It is pure profit. Their representatives simply state it is Texas Law. I am concurrently reporting them to the attorney general as this practice should be discontinued. They are simply taking advantage of the law and duping customers like me. I had asked for a refund or at the very least a copy of the bills or payments made on my behalf for this roughly $2,500 of "lease" payments that are leasing nothing, but profiits for Great America. They can attest no payments were made on my behalf. I would not ever do business with this company. Buyer or "lessor" beware with them. This practice should be illegal.
