Everyone on and off the train were smiling! Little kids loved it too. And as the train rolled by slowly, the people in the shops waved at you and you of course, waved back. Mother's with toddlers stood near the tracks just to wave as it went by. The weather was perfect with lots of sun yet just enough wind to keep you cooled off. Perfect! And rockway felt like it was in a time warp... like a normal Rockwell painting on life magazine! Seriously... felt like you were in 1952's!!! Oh and many people also brought their dogs with them! Wonderful! Only wish it was cleaner and they could fully refurbish the cars. Could be a great organised joint volunteer project... for seniors and teens. All and all we loved it and the town!

We also scheduled a tour of the blast zone and encountered beautiful scenery, landscapes and wildlife. The tour was eye opening on the amount of devistation and change that can take place so quickly in a catastropic event. Saw a banner advertising biplane rides as I was driving into Seaside on my way to Cannon Beach…read more Decided to stop, and check it out. I met Jim, a very affable gentlemen who obviously knows his aircraft inside and out - it really shows. His biplane is in mint condition - especially when you consider it was made in 1929! You get to sit in the front cockpit while Jim flies in the seat behind you. He gives you all the safety details, makes sure you're comfortable, tells you how to get great pictures, and then take you up in the air! He'll even take pictures of you while you're in the air and share them with you. Did I mention, it's a blast to ride in the plane? No? Best. Time. Ever. The views are spectacular from the moment you take off. Took my son up with me, and we both loved it. The ocean, the mountains, the river, the city, the sights - they're are all jaw dropping. Jim offers many different flight options, from a basic flight to the more scenic and longer flights. Quite a bargain considering what you get. You do need two people per flight (or be willing to pay double) - it's just the economics of running an antique aircraft. But Jim makes it totally worth it. No better time to be had in Seaside!

I surprised my girlfriend on a little trip to Astoria. We love anything haunted and this was…read moredefinitely a hidden gem. We showed up at 7pm at a very cute, vintage butcher shop, which was closed at that time. My girlfriend puzzled at why we were standing outside a butcher shop on her birthday. Shortly after the owner of the butcher shop and tour guide for the night, Diana, opened the door and greeted us to come inside. Our tour, which was very intimate as we were the only two who had booked that time-slot, started with a little history of the building and Diana explained where we would be traveling in the basement, along with the things we would see. Diana lead the way as we ventured down some stairs into a time capsule of a basement. Even if you aren't into the haunted or the spooky, the history alone that this tour will provide, is worth every penny. Diana goes into detail about the devastating fire that burned down most of downtown Astoria. Beams overhead are still charred black, showing signs of that scary event. Mounds of antiques and furnishings lay thoughtfully placed along the hallways, which help to tell the story of the past. We learned that the tv show Ghost Adventures spent a night in the basement back in 2018 and documented a lot of activity, especially in a room called the Ghost Room. My girlfriend and I were encouraged to use our phones to take photos and videos along the way. We were also given various ghost hunting electronics to use while on our exploration. Our haunting experience was definitely very active and we also discover the eeriest of feelings when we were in the Ghost Room as well. Upon reviewing our video footage from that room, we discovered so many orbs flying around each of us. You can also definitely sense as if someone is standing right behind you the entire time that you're in that room. The entire tour lasted just a little over an hour, which we felt was a perfect amount of time to take everything in. If you happen to find yourself in Astoria, going on this little ghost hunting adventure in the evening, is the perfect way to seal off an amazing day at the coast!

Jeff is an excellent guide and picked us up at our hotel. We were able to see Latourell, Multnomah, and Wakheena waterfalls; Bonneville Dam; and various scenic viewpoints. Captain Mark Schächer, who lovingly restored her after a 50 year career on the Columbia River, hosted a family of 3 and me for a day of crabbing and cruising. I even got to try my hand at the wheel for a while! I absolutely loved this trip, especially since it was my early birthday gift to myself, and would just die to do it with friends or family next fall! Oh, and the final tally? After taking off the top shells and cleaning the crabs for us, I came home with a cooler chock full of 20.6 pounds of cleaned crab! Captain Mark's rates are super competitive, I think the best deal on the river. What can beat a day out on a vintage pilot tug and crab to eat for dinner? Rated 10 crabs out of 5!

Well I guess I'm on the fence. I have been at Astoria several times I've seen the small purple…read moreglass "windows" in the downtown sidewalks. I heard it was to let light into the old underground businesses. I took the tour hoping to see a lot of these- you see one- kind of- and I thought I'd see a cool underground forgotten city. What it is is an underground area under maybe a block or less with old junk and antiques strewn about. I wasn't impressed. However- that was my own expectation- I did great a great history lesson on Astoria and the town burning down multiple times- how it was rebuilt- and how the large bridge was constructed and why- that was awesome- and the guys are pretty funny to boot. I also saw the main guy at the downtown farmers market the next day helping direct traffic so he's involved in the community which is awesome. I'm glad I went, maybe my expectations were way out of bounds but the tour was not really seeing much underground.
