I'm writing to share my deeply disappointing experience at this Great Clips location. I joined the team with nearly **30 years of cosmetology experience**, including as a**Cosmetology instructor**, former Paul Mitchell Signature Salon with years of so much training and was excited to contribute my skills while getting familiar with the salon's environment as well as their culture.
Unfortunately, my short time there , 1 day of cutting hair was marked by **unprofessional behavior, lack of communication, and poor management practices** and a negative stigma to my name/brand.
On **September 5**, I worked a closing shift and received a friendly follow-up text from the supervisor, Jamie. However, when I returned for my next shift, things took a strange turn. After expressing to a stylist that I had felt a little nervous after a client left (a normal, human reaction), another stylist I had never worked with sarcastically questioned, "I thought you were an instructor," and began rummaging through lockers to tell me where to put my belongings--creating a hostile and condescending tone.
Shortly after, Jamie asked me to watch a training video, left the salon, called the manager (**Ginger**), and returned to inform me that I was being let go for allegedly "not knowing how to cut men's hair"--a claim based on absolutely no assessment or constructive conversation. I had simply asked what clippers were preferred in the salon, a standard question in this industry.
When I asked for clarification, Jamie showed me **two vague client complaints** I had never been informed about--there was **no coaching, feedback, or chance to address or improve**. Later, after raising concerns, I received an email from **Angela Boones**, the franchise owner, now claiming there were **three complaints and two negative reviews** from a single day, despite having had **six clients**, including two very satisfied guests--one even tipping me \$20.
This type of **retaliatory behavior, miscommunication, and lack of HR process** was incredibly disheartening. Despite Great Clips' public image of promoting inclusivity and training through their Stylist Certification and Coaching Academy, what I experienced was **a toxic environment, no mentorship, and poor leadership** and very triggering to my mental health.
I do **not recommend working at this location**, especially if you're a seasoned professional expecting support, fairness, or respect.
