I had two tradesmen out over many weeks on a big reno project and much of the work was serviceable, some of it was even quite affordable (when done "semi off the books"); most of the plumbing was quite expensive but just at the upper reaches of reasonable. At the very end I explained I had exhausted my reno budget and would finish the work myself but the plumber convinced me to allow him to install a double sink vanity. Unfortunately I had become complacent and took him at his word for the verbal quote. Well of course he charged me more than DOUBLE that quote, and had my wife sign the paperwork while I was gone so he could leave with a signature and seal the deal. When I called to complain to the owner he of course sided with his employee (and himself) and charged me an absolutely astronomical price, citing the fact that he had an approval form with a signature. The plumber had even told me earlier in the renovation project that he was "giving me a great deal" and that his main business is "little old ladies with money that don't care about the price". There are other handyman outfits. Just sayin'
