The final bill was tallied: $104, which I thought was a lot, but I assumed it was the 3.5% up-charge for paying be credit card (which I did know about, but forgot to bring cash). I said something about the cost and that's when I was told the license plate bulb had burned out and had been replaced. No one said anything before changing it, no one asked me if I wanted it changed, and frankly I didn't. When I responded exactly that (you didn't tell or ask me) the reply was: "But you'll get pulled over for that." Bullshit, I say. Truth is I was told that light was out the last time I had the oil changed, and I declined replacing it then. That was 4 months ago, one major drive trip to FL's east coast and back, and not a single siren in my rearview. What's really bothering me is that I finally looked at the itemized bill when I got home: $14.99 for a flippin' light bulb. (Which, I don't doubt, I could get for half, or maybe 3/4s, of that at an auto parts store.) Maybe it's a good thing they changed it b/c I forgot to do it when I was first told it was out last oil change. But that's not the point. Bottom line: request your Customer's permission before doing an add-on. Period.

Luckily my car has a warning system so it never got low enough to cause damage. Kelly investigated the problem and told me exactly what she found. Truth matters. She cleaned the engine and skid plates, changed the filter, installed a new oil Pan plug and made sure a new o ring was used. She was obviously concerned about the poor workmanship from another location. She went out of her way to make it right. Her only objective was to make it right, and she did just that.

Thinking it was a transmission problem and fearing a new transmission cost, I took it a nationally advertised transmission company. It was 4:30 on a Friday afternoon, the ad stated open till 5:30pm. When I arrived, it was closed tighter than a drum. Another car service center in that same shopping center was kind enough to take a look at it, even though it was closing time. They diagnosed the problem, but were not open on the weekend and recommended Tom Joyce Auto Repair Shop, said that shop was open on Saturday even called and left msg on answering machine. I took the car at 0745 for the opening time of 0800. The one and only mechanic said he had lots of work already scheduled and closed at 1230 on Saturday, but he would try to take a look. I told him my situation, and that I needed to be back to work on Monday, he said he do what he could, I left the car. I feared the worst! He called me back at almost five o clock, told me that it was just a universal joint, which he replaced for what I considered a very reasonable price. I'm sorry I don't remember his name, but this man went well above and beyond his duty to service me and well past closing time, and I would recommend this repair shop to anyone! My oil was overfilled by an entire quart, forcing me to have the oil change redone during a road trip in Northeast Florida. I also received my well-maintained 2022 VW Jetta back with a dead battery and check engine light. My VW app showed accessories and battery-draining functions had been left on during the 1.5-hour service. I understand the battery may have already been weak and that this may not have been caused by the shop, but the immediate blame placed on me and push to sell me a new battery was unacceptable. When I called several times with reasonable questions, I was met with rude and dismissive responses rather than empathy or accountability. I was also quoted $67 and confirmed three times that an advertised special applied. I later learned parts and labor were excluded, making the oil change around $120. While my final price was fair, customers should be aware that the advertised price can be misleading without the additional costs. Mistakes happen. The bigger issue was how they were handled. As a woman, I was also uncomfortable with conversations I overheard such as ways to add additional services for "her" and sincerely hope I misunderstood their context.
