Gray Thomas in Caernarfon is something of an oddity. The place must make all its profit in the two weeks of summer we get, but still manages to keep afloat for years.
I'd liken it to Pringles in LlanfairPG, kinda like a Debenhams store for pensioners and tourists.
The wares they sell seem to be predominantly geared at the grey haired tourists, little welsh trinkets, fleecey clothing, tweed jackets with leather elbow patches, bits of semi precious stone etc.
You'll often see people mooching around looking at what's on the shelves, but rarely will you see someone buy anything! I guess the shop is something of a public service, keeping all those crazy pensioners off the streets and out of trouble, but otherwise it seems a pretty pointless place to me.
Pop in if visiting and looking for a gift. If you're local, don't bother. In fact, if you're local and DO shop there, please let me know what you bought - I'd dearly love to know what this shop is for! read more
