She is probably one of the most unprofessional people I have ever had the misfortune of interacting with. She often missed appointments that she scheduled, or ran very late without providing any notifications. She never took the time to provide feedback for how my child was doing and gave many contrasting guidelines. For example, she stresses how she is not an expert witness, yet she cancelled an appointment once because she was called to testify in court. I suppose there is a price for everything. I would often ask for resources and the books she recommended were not helpful. She gave me a referral to another counselor at the center to help with additional challenges my child was facing and the other therapist never got back to me when contacted. I have interacted with other clients who have repeatedly complained of how poorly run their appointments were. Do yourself a favor and look elsewhere for help.

All of a sudden, billing practices were changed without any notice, transparency went down the hole, and correspondence with anyone other than the therapist did not exist. I was made to feel like I was obligated to attend sessions I attempted to cancel and charged fees pretty randomly. In fact, I'd say the office went as far as to exacerbate some of my issues by being clearly unsympathetic and focused primarily on making a dollar. My therapist was new to the practice, and quite understanding, but couldn't avoid the bureaucracy of the administration. Seemed like there wasn't much support from above. When it was time for me to end my relationship with Leeward, no attempt to communicate was made until I prompted confirmation.

I live at property owned by Karen…read more I am an African-Indigenous descent and a member of the LGBTQ+ community as well. Karen has been a very horrible human being to deal with from a tenant/landlord perspective. I do not recommend that anyone seek her assistance for any type of mental health evaluation or care because for the past 2 years of the 3 & 1/2 years I have lived in her property, she has inflicted a great amount of harm onto my own mental health. It started with her trying to gaslight me after I was a victim of domestic abuse done inside my home. She decided to "not pick sides" and allowed the abuser (against who I felt the needs to file a police report to protect my self from) to continue living in the same home as me after the incident rather than terminate their lease. Then she tried (for the 1st time) to un-house my partner and I because of the incident. Then we legally confronted her about our rights, as tenants and human beings, with the help of a great organization called Vida Urbana and we got to have a new lease agreement drafted and signed. Then she continuously violated the new lease agreement for the unit we moved to, below where we used to live, by refusing to provide us with a safe home. We had to call board of health and get the health inspector to assist us with the necessary demands to bring the property up to health codes. After much delay, they have yet not completed all demands from the health department and now, as retaliation and discriminatory inhumane behavior, Mrs. karen is yet again trying to un-house u. This time in the middle of a New England winter rather than after a domestic abuse incident. I think this person has got to be one of the worst people o met during my 29 years on this Earth. My ancestors will be proud to know that I will not sit quietly while I am constantly attacked by people like Karen. I hope anyone reading this makes their ancestors proud as well by not associating themselves with such an inconsiderate and inhumane person, specially while considering a healthcare professional to assist them with whatever they might be going through.

I highly recommend Dr Karen Kurlander to anyone who is ready to uncover the truths in their lives. She was direct and caring. I just relocated back to MA and have been in need of some help with all the changes and of course thought of Karen after 30+ years of life lived. I had connected with her a time or two via phone from CA through some tough times. I'm so happy to have found her again. We have had one session so far and I feel like i'm back home. I've had many therapists along the way and always measure them up against Karen. I know I'm in good hands

Our final session was the day after the 2020 election. I had been struggling with people in my life supporting a candidate who I did not, and it was causing a rift. Not only did she start to stress her own support of this candidate but when I tried to ask her to stop making it about herself and her views, she accused me of being difficult and unwilling to accept any feedback. As a person with a disordered eating history, she also recommended I look into Sadexa, a weight loss drug, when I told her my height and an estimate of my weight. This was alarming for a number of reasons. Not only could this trigger a relapse because it isn't treating the root cause of my mental illness, but she never met me in person nor reviewed my medical charts. It was completely fatphobic and when I said as such, she exploded. I had to start yelling and eventually hung up on her. An hour later I had a nastygram in my inbox accusing me of putting words in her mouth ("I never "prescribed" you Sadexa I told you to look into it!") and a longwinded, grammatically incorrect definition of obesity. She closed the message by stating she was not shocked I'm having such issues with relationships in my life. Yes, you read that correctly. She took content from our sessions and threw it back in my face as a way to make a point in a break up message. Don't walk, RUN. Help is not here.
