Grassy Island Range Lights were completed in 1872. In order to accommodate large ships, the channel had to be dredged almost every year, and in 1966 the Corps of Engineers was planning on widening the channel, removing the land on which the range lights stood. The Coast Guard planned to demolish the structures on site, however a member of the Green Bay Yacht Club contacted the Corps about acquiring the lighthouses and was successful. They were relocated to the yacht club property in late 1966.
They were relocated again in 1998 to the breakwall where they stand today and underwent a several year restoration project that included the purchase and installation of replica sixth-order Fresnel lenses for each light.
When we visited, there was some flooding by the Coast Guard property and fence, and we were unable to get close to take a good photo. read more
