It's a stylish corner space with two big welcoming windows a short walk from the Lorimer stop on the L. The staff is friendly, and if you like Japanese art or popart you'll like this gallery. The owner (used to work for Takashi Murakami?) is Japanese and hosted his first show with pieces by the eropop artist Hiroki Otsuka. Lots of manga style contemporary pieces, framed drawings and paintings, paintings on garbage, silkscreen prints, and some really crazy big stuff (i.e. cow costume toilet seat boy on a big mounted door)
The opening was a lot of fun especially since they gave out free beer and cake?!? There were many opportunities for me to practice my Japanese there, which made for a really great time. It did get a little crowded, but the crowd just spilled out onto the street which seemed fine.
I'm definitely looking forward to what other artists exhibit at this gallery and I'm absolutely going to be at the next opening with beer in hand. read more
