After wandering through a few shops in this heritage listed town we were truly hungry and ready for a good coffee and a nice lunch. The first thing that hits you when you walk in is the wonderful selection of baked goodies stationed in front to entice your need for something yummy- we resisted, knowing that some of these goodies will be riding home with us! It was a nice little cafe inside and the staff seemed very friendly. I decided on the Beef and Shiraz Pie-with hand cut chips and salad- it's nice to find a place that still uses real potatoes - they were great! The pie appeared to be mostly pastry but once cut into, had a very generous slow cooked filling that was very tasty. But the show stoppers were the fish and chips, and batter- dipped Prawns. We have a few places in Sydney that make nice fish and chips, but these dishes were right up there with the best we have had-fresh,crisp and perfectly cooked-the prawns were very generous and I was lucky to be handed one. If I went back I would order these dishes.I would have given this place a perfect score but two things kept that last star from being given. One is that I am still waiting for the promised jug of water the waitress said she was bringing- we would have asked again but the wait staff never checked back with us to make sure we were happy .The second thing is a common one in cafes- our meals came with salad that were drenched in dressing and were no longer crispy- I didn't mind so much but my wife has grow accustomed to asking for dressing on the side because she hates that! And she also hates coriander which wasn't listed as an ingredient so she was searching through here salad trying not to eat any. I found a few slices of fresh chilli in my side salad- another no no for the general population.Don't let this stop you from going there- just remember to ask for dressing on the side if you feel like we do.And the baked goods? Yummy! I understand they own another place in Orange called The Sugar Mill- but that's another review!

Just like walking back into the 1990s, there is all the pizza, pasta, garlic bread, salad and desert you can eat!! I went prepared wearing my pizza-eating-pants (track suit). Gone are the days when I'd dress up for pizza. Plus belts restrict the amount you can eat. I always remembered walking away from an all-you-can-eat Pizza Hut session feeling so full that I actually felt sick. My visit here was no exception. Trust me though, this is a good thing!!! The pizza was actually fantastic. Great toppings across a variety of flavours. The garlic bread is top notch too. But don't fill up on bread before dessert! The desert bar was exactly as I had remembered with a the chocolate mouse, jelly, brownies and soft serve machine with a variety of stuff to chuck on top like mini marshmallows, choc bits and 100s and 1000s. The only disappointments were no bacon bits in the salad bar and they sting you $3.95 for a drink on top of the $16.95 for the food (without telling you the drink is extra). All up though $21 is pretty good for the amount of food on offer.

We visited Orange for a day trip from Sydney and had lunch at Charred. They have a great wine list and a surprisingly extensive Beer and Cider list. I couldn't go past tasting one of the oatmeal stouts they had on offer (it was the last bottle!) which was a great start to our meal. Their dishes are made for sharing and every single dish we had, I mean every - single - dish - was super delicious. For some reason I've found this pretty rare these days. We started with the chicken liver parfait with elderflower jelly and house baked bread and crackers. The jelly paired wonderfully with the creamy smooth parfait. It was also served with some amazing pickles. I wanted to order every single one of the Medium plates but settled for the pork belly and two bone marrows (you order them per piece). The pork belly was tender and delicious and came with a thai dressing that cut through the fattiness of the pork. The bone marrow was delicious, I spread mine on the their warm home made bread. The parsley and caper salad was a great combination for the marrow. For our main, we skipped the large plates and got the Venison shanks which was one of their specials. There is a local venison farm where the venison is sourced. Oh my. The meat was fall off the bone tender. The sauce was sticky and rich. The serve was huge (they did say the main or large plates were, well, large). We also ordered a side of the moroccan carrots which we probably didn't need as the venison was served with roast carrots and roast potatoes... but then we would have missed out on that gorgeous almond cream. We were so full that we had to take some of the venison and carrots home in a take away container (which the staff were more than happy to oblige). We didn't think we could fit any more in, so decided to just order a *few* doughnuts. What a fabulous meal. I was so happy afterwards that I couldn't stop grinning from ear to ear. We were seated near the kitchen and I overheard a group say that they came up from Canberra just to try the restaurant. I would do the same! They bake their own bread and also sell loaves to take home. I couldn't resist taking a loaf home, if only to extend the dining experience. We are already planning a return visit and we'll be bringing some friends with us.

This is more of a foodie experience than what we expected. Although the menu was a set price of $70…read moreper person for 3 courses, the quality of food was amazing and the wine selection the best we ever had. This is my first time in Parkes and the 4hr drive took us 7 because of fog and traffic and accidents, and we were hungry fed up and car weary by the time we crawled into town at 9pm. Straight to the Raily, where the World's Biggest Chicken Parmy awaited me, I chose Spanish flavour with pepperoni and feta and olives and this thing is about the size and weight of a brick, when it landed in front of me I was so happy I could have screamed, but my mouth got real busy all of a sudden. Beers are five bucks or thereabouts, there's a diverse Friday night crowd of farmers and yokels and young pretty girls getting some pre-game in before hitting the town's only nightclub, it's a veritable cavalcade of people watching. Pub lyf yo.

Tried this place after reading Benjamin B's review about the 'Chicken parmeys as big as a brick'…read moreand he certainly wasn't kidding! The railway hotel was on the edge of town and of course on the railway line. It's a smallish pub but is certainly more modern and edgy than any of the other pubs in town. The staff are all young, theres funky artwork on the walls, drink coasters are all artwork, schooner glasses sponsored by local businesses, and there is something different on every night. But that aside - I came to try the parmie and it didn't disappoint! I ended up coming here twice during the week I was in Parkes. Once to try the Spanish parmey and once for the Mexican parmey. Both were massive and loaded with toppings. They're all around the $17 mark which includes your choice of any 2 sides. The sides were fries, mash, veggies, salad and some others I can't recall. The chicken parmeys are definitely the highlight of this place. $5 schooners aren't bad either! If you're in Parkes heading out to see 'The Dish' is one of those must do things. I reckon a parmey at the Railway Hotel should be second on that list!
