Paul's Affordable Painting and Carpentry

(4 reviews)

We hired Paul to power wash our outbuildings and barn, paint the barn, and stain the exterior…read moredecks. He also re-built steps for us. He knew when we started we were on a tight timeline and swore he could do it all within 3 days. It took him 8. Multiple days he told me he'd be there first thing in the am, by 7:30 am, and work all day, and instead he showed up at 10:30 and left by 3. He had to be reminded over and over to actually finish projects he'd started (like forgetting to paint one out of 4 doors in the barn). Then, he neglected to use drop cloths and got stain all over our brick patio and walkways, on the stone steps, all over some of our herb plants, on the metal siding of the barn, and up the side of the house (that we weren't painting). He straight up missed places while staining and when I pointed it out he still didn't finish it. The final straw was that he spray painted a small stain on our garage doors without testing the color or asking my opinion, after telling me it would look great, and now we have two huge spray paint sections on our doors that don't match the color AT ALL. I asked him to come back and try to get the stain off our bricks, which he couldn't do in the 5 min he spent with the remover stuff, and then he sanded down my bricks in half the spots that were damaged and said it would look normal with water on it. Surprise, it doesn't. He told me so many times, "I'll do a walk through when I'm done and make sure everything looks perfect." Then he clearly didn't look at anything he did since he left painters tape up, didn't notice splashes of stain all over our property, and neglected to clean up some of his trash. He also borrowed my things (like electrical cord, phone charger, and leaf blower) without asking and then left them out. He forgot something he needed almost daily. When I told him about all the damages and problems and told him I'd like to be refunded $500 of the $3500 I paid him in labor only, he completely ignored my messages. Only after getting receipts from his other jobs still emailed to me from Lowe's because he didn't change the address did he finally respond. He accused me of fraud for trying to see his customers receipts and told me there wasn't any damage to my property. I sent him the 10+ photos of all damage at least twice. Don't make the same mistake we made!

We hired Paul to fix a hole in the garage sealing as well as to repair a bedroom door frame. We…read morewere on a serious time crunch and he assured us he could fix everything on time. The first day he was supposed to show up, he was 2.5 hours late without a single phone call letting us know where he was. We had to remind him CONSTANTLY to wear his mask as he was working directly in our home around people who have weakened immune systems. In addition, while he was in the garage, he managed to BREAK our garage door and never once called anyone to fix it. The second day, he was once again, 2.5 hours late. We told him after that, that he needed to be on time because this was getting to be incredibly problematic. He claimed he had also "called a garage door company but they couldn't come out that day to fix it." He started to fix the door frame but lacked materials and left... The third day, after I rearranged my entire day, I waited 2 hours and finally couldn't wait any longer. I left a note on my door telling him he needed to call us to reschedule... he never did. We called Aiken/Augusta Garage doors OURSELF and within 15 minutes they came out and fixed the garage door that Paul had broken and basically refused to do anything about. For four days, we called and texted him NUMEROUS times. It took me having to threaten him to take him to small-claims court that he FINALLY reached back out to us telling us he'd be there the following day at 12 o'clock ON TIME. The following day rolls around and he sends me a text at 11:15 saying he'd be there 15 minutes early... he wasn't. He finally showed up at 1o'clock with the excuse of needing to go to Lowes. He explained that this job would only take 45 minutes (I got that a lot, and it NEVER took 45 minutes). Come 3 o'clock, I go to take a look at the door frame and it's completely ruined. He had spackled a door frame (that did NOT match the other door frames in the house), got white paint all over our hardwood floors, the walls, and even the door handle of a door he wasn't even working on! There were cracks all through the top portion of the frame and there is no way the door could even line up straight. His excuse was, "you can't rush these things, I'll come back at 4pm." I was living. It shouldn't take 4 days to fix a hole in the garage and a door frame. After he left, I sent him a text telling to not return to my house as the damage he had created would take several hundred dollars to fix. He then threatened to sue me if I didn't pay him the other half of his money. I had to pay him $200 to not return. The next day, we had a PROFESSIONAL come out to look at the mess Paul had created and they confirmed that the entire door frame will need to be completely replaced as will the sloppy patch job in the garage that he 'fixed'. I have truly never met someone who was so unprofessional in my life. There were always excuses as to why he was late, excuses as to why his work was "sloppy." During the phone call when I told him not to return he said, and I quote, "it's not THAT bad." Do yourself a favor and take the time to hire a professional. Paul may mean well but he is clearly not ready to take on a business like this. We ultimately had to pay this man $550 to break our garage door, destroy a door frame, and do a crappy hole fill-in in the garage.

I was purchasing a butcher block that my wife wanted to use as a folding table in our Laundry Room…read more I was under the impression that Home Depot (HD) would make the cuts for me as I do not possess the proper saw to cut such thick, solid wood. After all, HD's customer service told me by phone earlier that day that they would help me make the cuts. Once I got there I was told by someone in the HD Lumber Dept that they couldn't do it. Long story, short, Bronson overhead my conversation. He was doing a job a few minutes away from the HD and he volunteered to make the cuts for me at no-cost. He even helped haul the heavy butcher block in truck for me to the job site. The world needs more kind gestures like the one done for me earlier this month by Bronson. The pay-it-forward action on his part speaks to his character. I've given his business cards to my wife, who is a Realtor here in the Valley, and we will use his company the next time we need a skilled and reliable carpenter.
