This theater deserves more than a 3.7 in my opinion. We go to a lot of movies and always have a great experience. Staff is nice, they have awesome concessions selection, popcorn is always perfect, roller dogs(!!!) :D, ice cream, nachos, etc. Each theater has its own vibe and feel. After going to many AMC's around the country, I don't know if people fully appreciate how awesome it is to have a locally owned theater of this size and quality. Who would have thought I would find the best movie theater I've ever been to in Bismarck, ND? This theater does everything right. First of all it is up to date with all the nice amenities, like comfortable seats, great sound, huge screen and it's clean. It was so nice to go to a theater that actually adds to the excitement of going to a movie. This place is huge (22 screens) so it takes a bit of maneuvering to get to your theater, but the Grand has the hallways filled with movie memorabilia, upcoming movie posters and all within the Egyptian theme. There are statues and displays all around the place. I was impressed. The only (minor) drawback to the theater would be the entrance is on the backside, and although there is plenty of parking, very little is close to the entrance. And because if the size, you might want to leave a popcorn trail as you go in, so you can find your way out! Good job Grand Theaters! read more

Best place to see a movie in Bismarck! This place is always clean and well kept up! I've been coming to the Grand Theatres since the 90s, when there were only 3 theaters total. They are always improving or upgrading in someway. They have great movie deals as well, Tuesday's and Thursday's. The chairs are comfy, the sound is perfect, and the staff are usually pleasant. If you're in Bismarck and want to catch a movie, come to this theater for some of the best time options and unique films played. Every once in a while they'll have an interesting replay of a timeless classic or a showing of a local film. I'll update my review if need be as I come here at least once a month to see something new! I am extremely disappointed with this movie theater and the HORRIBLE staff that is here. First off: who in their right mind disciplines an employee in front of customers?????? That is absolutely appalling. This man who seemed like he thought was the manager was belittling a female employee and frankly that should be done in private and calling someone borderline stupid is WRONG!! Secondly, with the covid-19 era why do the seats still have FOOD and garbage underneath them!!?? Those proud announcements of cleaning and sanitizing for everyone's safety are horse manure! I sat down on chocolate and it completely ruined my pants! When I asked to speak to the manager I did not get the manager but I kept speaking to a staff member while the manager hid in plain sight just because he didn't want to face me. What a joke! I'm sorry, Grand Theaters. I know you've tried really hard to be the best theater in Bismarck, but you still just don't cut it compared to theaters in bigger cities. Admittedly I'm rather a snob when it comes to theaters. However, I cannot believe how Grand has still not dealt with the absolute mess their parking situation is. My brother and I went to a matinee at 4 pm on a Sunday and we had to park in a different parking lot belonging to an adjacent business. Not only that, but the way Grand has their own parking lot set up is a mess. There's no navigating it without fear of getting smashed by another car from a blind spot! Boo! Your parking sucks! And let me tell you about the ticket lines and the CASH ONLY rule. Granted, it was opening weekened of Harry Potter but STILL. There was a line out the door. Get yourself some ticket kiosks! Save everyone some time! And for the love of all that is holy, ACCEPT CREDIT AND DEBIT CARDS! Do you know what a royal pain it is to have to have cash to go to the movies? I'll bet you're laughing all the way to the bank with all the money you get from your handy-dandy ATM machine. And the final nail in Grand's coffin? You serve Pepsi products. WHO DOES THAT? Not recommended!!! We went to Monsters U...the movie was great, but the cinema on the other-hand was extremely disappointing! The staff was rude which most of Bismarck must know since there were only 12 people at the move and that is including our group of four. If you are bringing a child and are attending a 3-D...DON'T!!! They don't have glasses that fit a child's head which kind of ruins the movie for them. Best part, they have a military discount, but not on new movies...and they only accept cash!!! Some of the theaters have reclining seats, but the seats are still very comfortable in the theaters that don't have this option. Probably the best movie theater I've been to! read more

At the time of this writing, Grand Theatres has an average star rating of 3 stars. That is absolutely unacceptable. This is the best movie theatre in Bismarck, and for me, the best in the state. The old reviews about cash-only are outdated: you can now use credit cards. The staff has always been great when I've been here. Alas, accurate showtimes seem to be only available from the Grand Theatres official website, so go there... don't trust googling "movies bismarck nd" or using some other tool. Hopefully they could improve that - that is the only slight negative here, but I can't knock them down a full star when their actual website has accurate showtimes. Prices are about what you'd expect for movies these days. The walls of all the halls - which make the theatre feel a fun little maze - are covered in old posters. There is even a little museum in the back with some fun movie memorabilia. This is the only place I watch movies in Bismarck. read more

Wish there were more show time options, but I guess it's understandable because it is a small theater. Staff is friendly and a lot of nice decorations. It's like an old museum/Egyptian style decoration. Prices are pretty good compared to other theaters, although the concession stands are a bit pricer than others that I have been too. They are actually strict about the "no feet on seats" rule. In smaller showing, I have seen employees come in twice to tell people to take their foot off the seats. Bathrooms are generally pretty clean. The parking lot is a bit small. However, it is only a problem on weeks of popular releases. You will probably have to park further down on the street. I have been good experiences at Grand, but honestly... anything looks better than the other movie theater option in town. It is cash only, but they do have an ATM right inside the first doors. I personally try to hit up only matinee's because I think movie ticket prices are outrageous. They just added on, and created a whole new hallway of theaters which I LOVE! The biggest one even has these lovely twinkly star lights on the ceilings. The arm rests even go up if you want to get cuddly :) The wait-lines for snacks can get kind of long and annoying, I'll admit. Also, the employees really could learn to smile once and awhile. But they do get some awesome movies! My last favorite was Hunger Games. :) read more

We visited the theater for Iron Man Three and saw it on the pharaoh screen (#15). It was great to see a movie with stars above, camp movie decor, egyptian statues, and fountains throughout the theater. Definitely a nice break from carmike. Well my first impression of the theater wasn't the best but it would appear that the theater has an older section, which hope you do t sit in because it's....well it's not the best part of the theater so as for the newer section much better seating and also nice to know there is a second concession stand hidden in the back on the way to theaters 11-20. A lovely Egyptian themed theater. Expansive place with ample parking. We've never had an issue finding a great parking spot. Sound is great and the stadium seating is what you would expect in a fine theatre. One MAJOR issue. Unless you find their web page, the info on most sites for this theatre are inaccurate. Wrong movies posted and incorrect times. We went back 3 times on two different days and finally got to see the movie we were hoping to see. We met others floundering and wondering what they could see or leaving to come back at another day. Ridiculous waste of time. Be forewarned! Check the web sites very carefully. read more

So in 8 years living in Bismarck I've probably been to over 50 movies at this theater, recommended it to plenty of out of town people, and never complained about paying premium price for tickets and concessions. But today we attempted to go to a movie with our very well behaved 6 month old. the policy is no one under 3 for pg-13 or rated movies. get bent. I can take my 4 year old to a R rated movie but not a 6 month old to a pg-13 movie. makes sense. guess I'll move on to AMC in the future unless it's something I have go here for. read more

This is the coolest movie theatre I've ever seen. We live in a bigger city than Bismarck, and our movie theatres are really nice, but this theatre has such a cool atmosphere. There is an Egyptian theme all throughout the theatre. You'll also find old movie posters lining the halls. It's a bit of a maze to navigate through, but well labeled, and has many concession stands within, which is a nice perk. We also saw a soda machine and 25 cent candy machines. There are curtains that open over the screen which is a cool old-school touch. My kids thought this theatre was really cool. The popcorn was good and employees were friendly. You can't choose your seats online like we can back home, and the parking isn't great, but that wasn't a big deal. Highly recommend. read more

Watched American Sniper at Theatre 16 in Dolby Atmos. Don't know how many theaters at Grand 22 are outfitted with Dolby Atmos or Dolby 7.1 Surround, but it's nice to be able to watch a movie in the best audio presentation available currently, and certainly it's nice to be able to watch any movie with a Dolby Atmos mix. The theatre does accept credit cards, although they don't have online ticketing through their website or other sites like Fandango. The theatre complex is well decorated, although there isn't much room for crowds waiting to get into the next showtime, meaning that everyone has to wait at the ticket taker area, and for my snowtime the ticket taker didn't bother to take my ticket nor anyone else in the crowd. The auditorium is nice with curtains. The seats are fine and rock back! And much of the rows in theatre 16 was stadium seating (with only one row right in front of the screen. What's also nice is that no ads play before the trailers start (many theaters have ads playing before the trailers). The screen was slightly larger than a ordinary multiplex screen, but not gigantic as advertised. Because the Theatre was outfitted with Dolby Atmos, speakers were even on the ceiling (allowing for you to hear the helicopters fly overhead). One important tip is that parking is a little hard to find, and people do park on the street. Make sure to allow for enough time to find a decent parking spot in the lot or on the street. I definitely plan to return to Grand Theaters, as Dolby Atmos is amazing to watch a movie with and I am glad it's in Bismarck. And even if I don't see a movie in Dolby Atmos at the Grand, I'm sure it will be a better presentation than the Carmike in Minot (and possibly Bismarck). read more

Poor customer service. I purchased tickets online and inadvertently picked the wrong date. The theatre didn't exchange them for another day, which I sort of understand, but then the cashier proceeded to insult me by saying that I should know what I am doing and not make the mistake. Everyone is human and makes mistakes. If an employee insults a customer, that's a pretty terrible employee. There is another theatre in town and think this will be my last trip to Grand Theatres. They do have better theatre space than the other one in town, in terms of seating and rounded screens, but for me, customer service trumps all, especially when the employee is blatantly insulting. read more

I've gone to the Grand pretty much my whole life! Went to my first movie at age two, and I go there pretty much every time I see a movie even now (16 years later). Will always be my favorite theater in ND. It has a lot of great features throughout the entire place. My favorite things are: 1. The Pharaoh's Theater- you sit in comfy seats in front of a massive screen. To top off the whole experience, the lights are AMAZING. They have little twinkling lights in the ceiling, making it look like you are under the stars. They aren't distracting at all as the movie plays. 2. The reclining seats in one of the rooms!!!- Extremely roomy aisles, even though one of the rooms they are in is on the smaller side. 3. D-Box Option- I have not personally tried it, but it is a great feature. 4. The Decorations- everything is both Hollywood and Ancient Egypt themed. They have pictures of hundreds of stars and old movie posters (original Star Wars posters, Indiana Jones, etc...) all over the halls as you walk to your movie. Gives you something to look at in case you get there early. 5. Concessions- most of the stuff is kind of spendy, but what theater concession stand isn't. They have cheaper options and a great "Throwback Thursday" special where you can get popcorn, drinks, and more for only $2. I could go on and on about everything right about this place. There are a few cons about The Grand though. 1. The bathroom stalls have huge gaps in between the doors, so if anyone is standing in front of your stall, you can easily make awkward eye contact (haha). 2. The audio isn't great in some of the older theaters. This meaning the audio seems like it's all coming from the front of the room instead of surround sound. This is the case in only a few of the rooms though, so don't fret! It's still great audio other than that. 3. Lines for tickets and concessions can get very overwhelming, but they usually move at a decent pace. They sometimes are just a bit understaffed. No big deal though. 4. Parking is not great, so get there early!! So if you are looking for a place to sit and enjoy a movie, The Grand is always the best choice in Bismarck. read more

I have been to this theater many many times. As most of the gripes about this place are true in one fashion or another, many of these people are over-dramatic and sound like little spoiled brats. I'll give a realistic review of the place. Parking - The parking is not ideal. However, there isn't much that can be done about this situation. There actually is ample parking for everyone that shows up. Unfortunately, for the crybabies in these reviews, the parking spots aren't right next to the front door. Some of the lots get to be pretty far away, but again, what can really be done about it short of spending millions of dollars buying out local businesses to create parking? So you have to walk a bit on busy nights. That is a stupid thing to complain about. If you're an American, you can more than likely use the walk anyway. Long Lines - Yes, this gets to be a problem but long lines at the theater are not the norm. Most Friday and Saturday nights the lines are just fine. If you show up on the opening of Harry Potter or a Twilight movie, you're going to wait in line no matter where you are. You could easily remedy the situation by not waiting till last minute to go, or choosing a different night. It's only the people that show up at the last possible minute that complain about lines. There are three different concession areas to get your popcorn if the lines there are too long. Cash only policy - Outdated and a pain. No way around that. However, contrary to popular belief, no business gets the money from an atm fee besides the bank. Keep your feet off our seats - I just have to assume the people that complain about this don't grasp the concept of respect for stuff that isn't theirs. Any of the chairs in the newer theaters and the remodeled older theaters cost anywhere from $300 and above per chair. I don't need to do the math to show you the vast amount of money that is. The owner or management of the theater isn't coming to your place and putting their feet all over your nice stuff, why should you do it to his? Learn some respect. Navigation and Setup - It is true that it isn't setup well. If you show up on a busy night, it can be a congregated mess. However, making that the reason to never go there and write a bad review seems a little extreme. Some people just sound a little too pampered. Employees - Yes, some, not all, hate their job and it shows. However, it's a minimum wage job in a city that has an extreme worker shortage. They possible don't have the cream of the crop to pick from, but I don't know. Auditoriums - As some are of unfortunate size and it can be disappointing to see your movie is in one of them, most are spacious and beautiful with no on-screen adds before the show. There is ambient music playing in the background and a gorgeous curtain covering the screen until previews start. This is the best in-auditorium atmosphere there is. No other theater I have ever been to in the nation offers that. Pepsi Products - Some places serve Pepsi, some serve Coke. This place falls on the Pepsi side. Not even worth complaining about. It would be nice to have the kind of time on my hands to worry about such things though. Overall, I give 4 out of 5 stars. It's not perfect but none of the "issues" are deal breakers. This theater is the pits. Cash only?? Not only are the ticket prices ridiculous, I have to pay even more in ATM fees. Stupid. The entire set up is dumb. There is not enough space in the area where you buy tickets and then it is super cramped in the concession area. If you are there and a movie has just let out, good luck trying to navigate your way around!! The actual theaters themselves are okay, but when you are from another city and used to REAL movie theaters, this just sucks even more. I will choose the Carmike across the street every time over this place. The employees are rude and couldn't care less about your time or money spent. We USED to love the Grand until this evening. We have always been able to bring our small breastfed infants into the movies without question. Now, while I do understand why a policy must be in place, I seriously disagree with this one. If a child is being noisy THEN you may ask then to leave. In this case we walked up to the window WITH our 8 week old, purchased our tickets for a pg-13 movie and proceeded back to the screen. Upon arriving there was literally a posse of employees waiting to escort us out. I kindly Stated that our daughter would be quiet and under a blanket nursing. We were told it didn't matter and that children under 3, yes you see that right, only under 3 are no longer allowed into pg-13 movies. SO, if we wanted to see a PG movie we could. So wait, this isn't about age, it's about noise, so I can go into a PG movie and disrupt it and be fine? SMH. Anyhow, the Grand lost $100 this evening as we were in a large group. So all breastfeeding mom's, unless you want to see G or PG movies on your date nights, you are best to skip the Grand theatres and have a date night in. read more

Such a beautiful theater for Bismarck! I enjoyed walking around with my family looking at the neat statues all around the place. They have big screens and always appears to me clean. Although, the parking lot isn't as big as it should be compared to how big the theater is. People have to park on the side of the road and fill up the closed down pawn shops parking lot and the garden area parking lot at Kmart on opening night... maybe something y'all can work on... read more

If you love movies Bismarck 22 Grand Theaters is for you! 1st of all 22 movies to chose from. Halls are a movie fans dream with signed autograph star pictures, old movie posters and projection equipment. All theaters have a theme and are each unique with the best in digital projection and surround sound based on the size of the theatre. 4 different concession stands throughout. FYI-No popcorn or pop refills. Soft music and No commercials just previews before the show. Screen is covered by a curtain and taken back when the feature film begins. Truly making it exciting to be viewing the show! Lots of leg room and all the latest seating available. Recliners, rockers and leather seats. They have 3d movie viewing available if you like that. The big screen 2d works great for me. Mission Impossible Fallout in D box experience was awesome! A little extra cost but more than worth it. Car and motorcycle chases to flying helicopters to punches being thrown you feel it all. Leather seating, digital big screen projection to the best Dolby Atmos sound. My wife and I saw a movie at an Imax theater in Minneapolis and they had no idea what a D box movie was about. Being movie goers we have been to numerous other theaters and Bismarck has by far the best experience. Clearly the people who own this locally owned theater truly care and are always updating. Really love the reel before shows. Complete with surround sound promoting the Grand Theaters and gently asking people to be polite to others as they watch the show. Theaters are a bit of a disappointment in this town, but the Grand is the best you'll get. I think that the Grand Theatres is an Awesome Place to take the family for the night out. Its clean unlike the other theater in town and concession stand price are reasonable unlike the other theater. In fact I will not go to a movie unless it is at Grand Theatres I would rather wait until it comes out to rent. I read the review someone else had wrote about the Parking.....
