This is far from a 4 star hotel; more like a 0.25 star (if they're lucky). ** Do. Not. Waste. Your. Money. ** You're better off staying at a backpacker's lodge. Better still, try the huge number of AirB'n'Bs in the area, the Cumberland Hotel on the main strip, or even the motels. The only good thing going for this venue is the view (if you're lucky enough to get a decent-facing room). The staff tried (albeit half-heartedly), and before we even had a chance to put our bags down tried to up-sell us to the in-house restaurant... WTF?. But to charge AUD$349 per night (which according to the venue is their "best rate") for a sub-standard room, is not only laughable but borders on false advertising and an application to the ACCC. What's even more laughable is that they're so delusional they truly believe this is a 4-star hotel. Here are just 2 disgusting things we found on our (now-spoiled) romantic overnight getaway: (i) old matted hair stuck to the base of the toilet and bathroom floor, and (ii) what appeared to be mould on the bedsheets! On a lesser note: no wine glasses anywhere to be seen, and no way to contact reception. We complained on the day in person and via their email address. Both fell on deaf ears. There's good customer service for you... not! Do what you can and look elsewhere for better accommodation if you're thinking of staying in Lorne. Lorne is a beautiful seaside town with great amenities and brilliant cafes and restaurants. We'll definitely return but will steer well clear of this unfortunately disastrous venue. I recently visited the Pacific on a Saturday evening in mid Jan 2013. For an up market bistro style dinning room they offer table service and a decent wine list. While it was an ok experience, I feel they need to decide if they want to be a gastro pub or restaurant cos it's a bit blurry at present. I had the surf n turf steak, it was a lovely cut of beef but unfortunately well over cooked. I ordered it medium but it was more like very well done. It was a decent meal but given the hight prices of both the steak and the wines I would have preferred to have spent my aprox $80 per head elsewhere and had an over priced pub meal in Melbourne. Really confused menu. And confusing meals. I was confused shall we say? I had Pete's famous pie. Clearly it is famous for confusing palates. The pie itself was nice but it was served with chips and a salad with what tasted like a Thai dressing. The staff were amazingly insincere and patronising, with lots of "how are WE?" Confused would have been my answer if I felt an answer was required. So all up I paid $50 for the honour of eating Pete's famous confusing pie and a beer. read more
