What they do have is food that is executed and presented beautifully, even if it only features one main restaurant and one buffet each evening. They have excellent poolside lunch options. The menu may be smaller, but everything is perfectly prepared. This is a resort that spares no expense when it comes to flavor. The service at this resort is impeccable. From the wait staff to the housekeeping, I could not ask for better staff. The resort is starting to show its age. It's quaint, with its thatched roofs and tree treehouse like Haciendas. The grounds are well maintained, but again it's missing some bells and whistles. They need to make some updates, including better lighting (especially) adding well lit steps. maybe it was the drinks, maybe it was the early sunsets- but the trips up and down the stairs at night were beyond treacherous! The non-skid tape was well worn and slicker than it should be, and the steps were barely illuminated. We managed to make it through the week without incident, but barely! if you want a five star resort, this probably isn't the place for you. If you have kids and want a lot of activities again, probably not the place for you. However, if you are a foodie who values quality over endless menu options and you just want a nice relaxing vacation. This is a great place to stay. For us, it came down to location, location, location! Being able to walk out of our resort and right into the heart of shopping, food, and authentic experiences was a priceless amenity. I wish the bathrooms were updated, the concrete floors and dated showers have a very strong mildew smell- the lighting throughout is very poor. There isn't enough closet space ( I was able to hang three dresses, my husband's suit, and a few pairs of pants and with only three small nightstand size drawers there isn't much space for unpacking. Maybe it's the thatched roof, maybe it's the flaking concrete, but Even after sweeping the floor feels gritty - definitely come prepared with some slippers or flip-flops. I'm not used to having to wear shoes indoors, but at this resort, I highly recommend it. our week spent here was a bit rainy and overcast, none of the hot tubs at the resort were working. They were all slightly warmer than the pool, which isn't saying much, the ocean was warmer than the pools. Unfortunately, due the size of the waves we couldn't spend much time in the ocean, but their beach is much cleaner than many of the surrounding beaches. They do a great job of staying on top of all of the debris. And they have a lot of great lounging spaces with umbrella coverage. Unfortunately, during our stay Fuego, the main restaurant was under renovation so the limited menu was further limited. We were unable to order whole fish or any of their stone fired pizzas. Despite the closed restaurant, the weather, and the lack of hot tubs and updated facilities the stay was still magical. I can only attribute that to the warmth, sincerity, helpfulness, and availability of the staff. Was it the all inclusive resort experience I am accustomed to? No! Did I have an amazing time absolutely! I think it comes down to knowing what you want in a resort. If you aren't someone who wants 1 million activities a day then this is probably a great place to spend your vacation. He also recommended places to eat and things to do in playa. We also got a free welcome drink, free breakfast, and 15% off of the sushi restaurant during our entire stay. The sushi is amazing by the way, definitely one of the best sushi restaurants I've ever been to. The fish was fresh and well prepared. I'd recommend the New York roll. The rooftop is beautiful and has views of the city. The location is right in the heart of playa del Carmen. Overall a wonderful hotel, and I'd definitely recommend it.

But that was far from the truth what was light music was basically a rock band, techno, and Caribbean music that could probably be heard from blocks away. It wasn't light music by any means, out of the 10 days we were there we only were able to sleep through two nights, and I understand that it's a holiday and believe me we love to drink and have fun as well, but when it's after 4 AM and we still haven't slept. That's another problem. We had free breakfast which every morning was absolutely delicious and it came with either coffee or homemade juice. But as for us ever staying in this Be Playa we wouldn't recommend it if you actually wanna sleep, but if you're looking to party, then this is the place for you.

We were on the first floor which gave us a terrific view of wildlife from terrace. We did eat in Salum 2 times and it was delicious and so beautiful and relaxing in the evening. I don't understand the negative reviews. This resort is beautiful and so clean and taken care of. Every person we met was ready to help us in anyway possible and tolerated our attempts at Spanish. I highly recommend coming to feel fully relaxed and away from your normal busy life. Tips: if you want to swim in ocean bring water shoes it is rocky. Bring goggles or snorkel gear there are cool fish to view in ocean. Be prepared to walk and enjoy the stunning grounds. Shower pressure gets 2 out of 10, while there is a soaker tub that looks like it's meant for 2, it's really not. Also, the AC worked at night but I think they turn it off during the day. The biggest let down was exchanging for Mexican $ while there. My experience was bad enough. If your money from other countries isn't PRISTINE, they will not exchange it. I had one $20 with a piece missing smaller than 1/2 a grain of rice and they wouldn't take it. I also had 5 or 6 bills that had a minuscule out of ink on the edge of a bill and it wasn't until the manager could sense my frustration that he stepped in and did exchange those bills for me. Do look up exchange rates before coming to Mexico, I saw the rates anywhere from $15-20 Mexican to American. The airport was the lowest and some retail shops were the best. THE ABSOLUTELY UNACCEPTABLE exchange came when my SO tried to get pesos for $400 American. He his $200 under his keyboard and then came back to her and said "here's your $3200 for your $200." She had handed him 4 $100 bills and tried to give her change for just 2 it wasn't until she called him on it and lifted up his keyboard that he said "oh, not sure how that happened". We filed a report with management and left it at that. They may have sent a fruit bowl and chocolate strawberries to apologize but that was not sufficient seeing that Management never even apologized to us. That's all we wanted. They have central parking and a team service here because it's 5 hotels in one resort. Advantages and disadvantages to both but the tram drivers and bellmen were the stars of the shows here. My SO broke her ankle halfway thru our trip and they lent us a wheelchair and they have a special tram to haul them around. The VALET service sucked! While being told to call ahead so they were there when the tram brought is good in theory, we still waited upwards of 30 minutes longer than they said it would take. Not once was our car ready when they said it would be. Also, having the car just sit in the hot sun when not in use makes it very uncomfortable during the summer when you get in. If you're going to the beach club you can't bring food or drink and their prices are very steep. Pro level cheat is to bring a Hydroflask filled with whatever adult beverage you want for the day and just get your water from them. Also, if you want a Cabana at the club and aren't Platinum, go to the reservation booth there at 11am and let them know you'd like to wait for an unclaimed Cabana at noon. Also, the sand on the beach is nice and you can lay there but the shore at the waters edge in all rocks for quite a way and makes it very difficult to enjoy the ocean waters. Overall, this place has some great qualities but I think coming here for just a meal will be the way to go when I come back at Christmas time.

The hotel itself is in excellent condition and we loved our rooms. The decking at the pool area, however, is in serious disrepair. It is the best hotel to call your home away from home. It's nestled right in the downtown area of Playa Del Carmen (right in the middle of everything) and super walkable. There are lots of shops and restaurants just steps away from the front door. The concierge team, the bartenders, the servers, the maintenance team were all fantastic and so kind. The rooms are clean and I especially loved the balcony that came with our room. We spent many mornings and evenings playing card games and talking. Our all time favorite part was the hotel rooftop pool with a swim up bar. There's plenty of room to move around and hang out with friends as the pool stretches across the length of the most of the hotel. We didn't eat much at the hotel but did enjoy light bites at the hotel cabana and was satisfied. The gym was a decent size too and had a good variety of equipment to get some movement in while on vacation. Not sure if the Thompson is still apart of Amex's hotel collection but it's a great incentive to stay here because it will be a 10/10 experience for you.
