I needed a hotel for one night while dropping off someone at the airport. For $79 I thought this was a pretty good deal, and I also know you get what you pay for. Check in was easy. I did find the best price on booking.com. They quoted me $30 more at the front desk. Room smelled mildly of old cigarette smoke. You wouldn't know it from the other reviews, but our room was clean. The TV is tiny but the beds were pretty comfortable. Fortunately no one was using the pool because Even though the room was on the third floor, I am sure the sound would travel. There closed both the bar and restaurant, and did not notify people with reservations. They provided no alternates, not even something as simple as offering coffee on the lobby. Stayed one night, almost thought about leaving and staying somewhere else and pay more. First, this is an older hotel. When you walk in the front door passing the no smoking signs, you immediately smell cigarette smoke. Checked in with no issues. The cigarette smell in the room was stronger than what was in the lobby. Went to use the bathroom and saw what appear to be cigarette ash (black specks) in the bottom of the toilet. Either housekeeping does a horrible job cleaning the toilet or they were smoking while cleaning which wouldn't be surprising judging on the smell. The room tv is small and the beds were uncomfortable, stiff, and noisy. If I ever return to Minot, I'll spend more on the hotel and would never stay here again. It is far fetched to say that the Grand Hotel is "Grand" at all. It is sketchy with dilapidated musky rooms, the smell of chlorine, a terrible restaurant (Primo), and staff that are clueless. Our reservation was made in advance for a King Suite (offered by the staff member) for us and our 2 cats and a dog. We only booked there because it accepted our cats - I have since learned of another hotel in town that also accepts cats. When we arrived, the front desk staff was clueless to our arrival and stated that our reservation was lost despite the confirmation in my hands, which was emailed to me. She said she did not have a King Suite available, and she only had 2 queen room for pets. We were disappoint and frustrated, but took the room. We had to sign a paper that required us to sign that we promised not to smoke and that we would be responsible for paying for any damage from our pets. The latter I understand, but the former I have never had to do. This should have been our first sign. The room smelled of fresh smoke. Umm this completely does not make sense given the form we signed. We requested a different room and I swore I saw a flea. It was confirmed when my dog was trying to catch it. My husband requested a different room. Of course we would because of us, our animals, and the possibility of bed bugs (an example of the gross level and condition of the hotel). The front desk staff said that the rooms were occupied by train workers and this has never been an issue. She went as far as to say that it wouldn't be possible. When she gave us our new room - low and behold it was the "unavailable" King Suite. She either doesn't know what she is doing, or chooses to lie as a sense of control. Who knows, but terrible service. Completely unethical and deceitful. The restaurant offered room service and foods were offered and requested, but upon delivery they were suddenly "out" of the food item. Additionally, over the phone the staff stated that there would be an 18% gratuity. This is fine; however, the staff who delivered the food said there was no gratuity, and that we would need to tip on the receipt. Hmm. Yet another ethical issue. I suggest using DoorDash (if you are required to isolate and can't go anywhere - we were towing a trailer so it was harder to pick something up). The housekeeping staff and the maintenance workers were the best part of the experience - they were polite and let us use the vacuum to tidy up from the cats. Weekend front desk staff were awful. They were always inconvenienced by the slightest question. While we know if it tough to switch rooms, it would have never been an issue if they actually were competent. Would they want to stay in the rooms we were assigned? No. Do not stay here if you expect clean rooms and quality service. I would never call this a grand place or experience. The hotel is trying to be something, I'm not sure what. The decor is shabby and old. The rooms are dated and dingy. My tv made a hissing sound. The same sound I could swear the staff were making at the customers. Customer service was terrible. I walked into the restaurant for lunch at 1:30 pm. I was refused service even though lunch time was 12:00 - 2:00 pm. I asked for a late checkout when I checked in but then was asked to vacate my room early and to "make it quick" I do not recommend this place at all. Especially when there is a Hampton inn just around the corner with a known professional customer service history. I'd rather pay more for better service, friendly staff and consistency. I stayed at the Grand for one night and it's the worst sleep I've ever gotten in a hotel. The room itself was musty and VERY hot. The A/C kept the room at 77 degrees and I couldn't change it. They don't offer a breakfast because they have the restaurant but it was INCREDIBLELY overpriced for what we received. The vending machines didn't work either. The hotel was extremely outdated and the front desk staff wasn't super friendly. I'm only giving two stars because of the pool and hot tub - they were great. This hotel has been a staple in Minot for over 35 years. It is the biggest in Minot, and has a fun pool and atmosphere on the weekends. But...there are a few issues during our stay. We came in town for a funeral. My in-laws were also staying in the hotel with us in separate rooms. The first night our tub was leaking water to the basement and the staff came and asked us to stuff using the tub. We found hairs in the sink when started to unpack. My in laws fridge didn't work, it didn't get fixed until the last day we were there. The next day, my kids locked themselves out of the room on accident and happen to push on the door and the door opened. Our room didn't lock fully. We had the maid service come when we left and came back to the beds made like a two year old makes a bed. The last day, my son was in the hot tub and some guy that worked there asked him to get out of the hot tub. He told me there was too much chlorine in there, and he threw in a thing of chemical pellets. Later that night my daughter and her cousins were swimming in the pool, when they got out about an hour and half after they were covered in red welts. They went and rinsed off and were in so much pain. I went and asked the front desk if anyone has complained about chlorine burn, but no one did. There were about 7 kids in our party that got chlorine burn. The reason I am putting 2 stars is because they responded to my concerns and helped adjust the rate of my room and my families room charges for our stay. I think with all of the big oil, I wish someone would come in a renovate the hotel. It needs a pretty big hefty update. It's such a fun location and atmosphere. It would be sad to lose it. I was in town for work. I lived in Minot during the oil boom and the rooms here were going for $170+ per night. Fast forward 9 years and this place is on a downward slide. The rooms are maybe one step up from a motel and the beds are not comfortable at all. On this trip I had a king suite and thought the room was big, the paint around the windows was in need of repair. The paint was just flaking all over the place. There was three sharing the room and when we pulled the couch bed put we found food crumbs all through the sheets and when the comforter was pulled back there was red and brown stains all over the sheets. It was completely disgusting. We went down and the front desk said they could get a roll away bed in the room. I was a little surprised they didn't want to come clean it up right away. We decided to get another room by the pool and keep the one we had. When we entered the second room we opened the closet and there were used pull towels in the closet. There was food crumbs around the nightstand and cable tv didn't work. I asked the front desk if the manager was available and they were not. Needless to say there are plenty of other hotels in Minot that understand cleanliness and customer service. read more

I travel to a lot of hotels for work and this is one of the best ones. Where to begin? For starters, the room is very spacious. There are a lot of amenities in the room including your standard microwave, refrigerator, and coffee. Everything feels and looks tremendously clean which is a big deal. The shower has decent water pressure which is rare to find in hotels these days. The shower curtain is one of those ones that hangs out and over the edge of the tub in a semi circle to maximize your space as you move. There is a giant pool and hot tub in the center of the hotel indoors. It is fantastic for kids. I will say though, if you plan on sleeping during the day this hotel is not for you, because the sound of kids playing in the pool rings throughout the hotel and in your room all day until the pool closes. The guest service directory was lacking, including missing the address of the hotel room when I needed it most and not having any breakfast room service information. They do offer room service though, you have to call in the morning. They told me on the phone they do not offer room service at night. The beds are going to be hit or miss with a lot of people. They are made of memory foam, which a lot of people like, except this particular foam was rather firm - on par with another reviewer. I don't want to scare anybody though, because I had a good night sleep with it and personally liked it. They have an extra warm blanket in the closet if you need so you don't need to call for it. There is a thermostat in the room to set the temperature exactly as you desire. A lot of the rooms have curtains that open up to the pool area for some interesting people watching. read more

Initially, it is hard to figure out the layout of this hotel. From the outside it looks like multiple add ons to enlarge the place. The inside is kind of a maze as well. And on entering the lobby one is confronted with the smell of chlorine from a pool that is essentially open with walkways connecting to the lobby, restaurant, and lounge. After that, the rooms are spacious and clean. The bathroom configuration is not unlike older hotels---toilet and tub/shower in one room and sink/vanity in the bedroom. The decor is dated and the carpet in the bedroom is bunched up from lots of wear and traffic. If one can get past this oddity of a large maze-like construction, there are a lot of positives to this place. It is very close to the airport and apparently there is transport available----we chose to rent a car so we didn't experience that aspect. The staff was very helpful, accommodating, and efficient. When we left our room in the morning, there was always a housekeeper in the hallway cleaning and readying rooms for new occupants. Our room was always clean and made up when we returned. The proximity to downtown Minot is also a plus. The negative aspect of this hotel is that the pool is in an open area unlike other hotels where it is enclosed. It can get very noisy if there are a lot of people, mainly children splashing and running around. Having said that, I would not recommend staying in rooms poolside if a quiet environment is desired. For large groups this hotel is especially accommodating. We were here as part of a class reunion and were able to negotiate a very reasonable rate for our stay. In the process, the front desk staff was always available to answer our questions. For families and large groups I would recommend this hotel as a good place to stay. read more

My experience at this hotel was anything but fantastic. I myself, have worked hotels in many positions. My husband and I also like to travel frequently so we have stayed at a menagerie of hotels ranging from 5 star to the seedy 0 start drug infested ones. I began my experience by booking over the phone asking for a King suite for my family and small dog to stay. I made every indication that there were 2 adults, a child, and a small dog. Even double checked that it was indeed a pet friendly room, as my reservation was non-refundable. Upon our arrival the desk manager refused to give us the room I had booked and paid for over there phone. It was made clear, at this time, the room I booked was NOT pet friendly and I would be given a double queen room at the price I paid for my king suite. As we enter the room I entered the bathroom, only to lift the lid of the toilet and find fecal debris in the bowl as well as piss on the seat. I walked to the desk and reported my disgusting experience to be told, there were no more rooms available and they would send a maid. When this maid arrived she boldly entered our room without so much as a knock on our door. She huffed into the bathroom and began mumbling about how she just forgot to clean the toilet, they were understaffed, and rushing her... In my experience, you never enter a room with the guests inside. It equals trouble. Also, there is no such thing as a fully staffed hotel and your laziness is no excuse for leaving a room in this manner. Next, my family decided to go for a swim. I took the dog out to relieve herself before meeting them. When I got back to my room, the key was rejected. I walked to the desk, got a new key, and the same rejection light appeared. I marched back to the desk where they sent a young, good looking maintenance man named Austin with me to fix the door itself. As he emerged from the employee room a young girl, (I'm unaware of her position at the hotel) pushed herself between Austin and myself. Enamored at her presumed "alone time" with Austin she began to LOUDLY flirt and giggle at her false claims of being lost and needing directions to a room. Poor Austin looked at me with embarrassment and confusion as how to handle the awkward position this girl has put us in. He did his best to get her on her way, however she was so dedicated to her flirting she was 100% unaware that a guest was standing next to them and completely oblivious to his attempts to rid her from our presence. Eventually we did reach my room where he fixed my door. The following morning, I got up and let my dog out. Once again, on my arrival back to my room, the key was rejected. I was forced to call and wake my husband up to let me in, in order to avoid another conflict at the desk... Now, for the actual room review itself.... The beds are not a type of mattress that I have ever encountered before. They are closely related to that if soft yellow packing sponge/foam. The pillows are lumpy and stained with the sweat of past guests. The room is filled with extraordinarly loud humming coming from the mini fridge. The air conditioner pops in and off with an extra loud and electrical sounding buzz. The view is that of the next building approximately 4' from the room I was placed in. The toilet is the kicker. Now clean, my husband pointed out that the toilet is to close to the cabinet, causing the lid not to stay up. If he was to stand to urinate one hand would have to hold the lid up. This was more uncomfortable for my step daughter and myself. If we sat to pee the lid would have to rest on our backs. We were not the only guests to have this issue. We could CLEARLY hear the urination and toilet lid falling from the room above us. At one point it sounded like the poor fellow dropped the lid mid stream and had to lift the lid again to continue relieving himself. All in all between our experiences and state of the room it is safe to say, my family will not be staying here again. read more

We had 3 rooms at the Grand. One had an uncleaned bathroom, bedding disgusting in one with crumbs and stains and none of the 3 had see a vacuum in quite some time. Hairpin and a screw on the floor in the one of the suites. I put the valance up in one room as it was falling down. We used a banquet room and that was OK. The food was fine that we had them cater. No response from the manager after notifying them of our issues. I assume this is the standard they now adhere to. Looks like someone was chosen as the manager by a relative and takes no responsibility for the condition or operation of this once great hotel. Honestly, this place is okay. The rooms are spacious, clean, and well lit. The beds are hard, uncomfortable, and make me want to jab my eyes out (my overall sleep quality went dramatically down hill). The pool view was nice for people watching, but otherwise noisy. The housekeeping didn't clean my room. I called down Carrie answered. I asked why didn't I get service in my suite? She said you have to be in the room to clean. I laughed and said your joking Right? She wasn't and put me on hold. I was on hold for a long time realizing she's now messing with me. I called back she answered and said I left the quiet please sign on my room at 1pm when the housekeeper checked. She lied again. When I confronted her about her second lie she said nothing I could do. I asked to talk to someone else she put someone on the phone. She put someone on, I asked for more towels at least. When I asked the next morning to talk to the manager they told me it was Carrie. After telling many staff about the incident, I found out how disrespected she was from people at her hotel. Don't waste your time and money unless you like being kept up all night, worst hotel experience I've ever had. I'm not going to take the the time to explain the things that were broken or lacking cleanliness in our room and instead will focus on the sad reality of a poolside room being a terrible idea instead of a fun one like it was supposed to be. The pool hours on the night we were there were supposed to be 9a.m.-12p.m. I finally had to call the front desk after 1a.m. somerime because there were still all kinds of kids in the pool screaming their heads off.The front desk did take care of that but then it was the loud and drunk adults at their poolside tables that were being ridiculous and keeping the kids up. Had to call back about that too which helped for about 5 minutes and then they were back at it. Not wanting to be a pain for the poor front desk lady I opted to not call again and they kept up until about 3. That wasn't the end of the world except that the screaming kids were back at it at 7a.m. when the pool should've still been closed. If I would have known all this was just for a 3 hour night of sleep then we would've definitely skipped it. Hopefully this review will save someone else the trouble we had. read more

Actually if I could I would give it zero stars!!! Our toilet quit working at 1:15AM, and they claimed they fixed it, but it went still would not flush properly after the "handi-man" said he fixed it. The room they moved us to had not been thoroughly cleaned, there was old food in the refrigerator, however we had no other choice but to take that room as they were fully booked and in the middle of the night couldn't find another hotel. They did not comp the room, or even give us a discount!!!They said they gave us $20 off our breakfast bill however that is untrue because our friends paid for our breakfast, and we never mentioned what happened the night before to the hostess or to the server. The hotel managers didn't even apologize for our inconvenience, even though this took place at 1:15 AM. I even wrote a letter but was told I was lying because the "handi-man" said the toilet worked. My wife and I stayed here for one night while I was in Minot for business. Everyone was friendly, from the front staff to the housekeepers. We didn't go to the restaurant while we were there, so I can't comment on that. The room was fine for our needs. We were on the 5th floor, and the only complaint that I had was the noise from the pool area. Even with our room being on the 5th floor, it was loud. That being our only issue, we would stay here again if we return to Minot in the future. read more

My stay here was very short but enjoyable. I had no problems at check-in or throughout my stay, and my room had a very nice view overlooking the pool. I couldn't hear my neighbours. The worst stay ever my husband and I along with our two dogs were moving to minot afb and while waiting to find a house we stayed here. Needless to say it was a very short stay of one night and moved on to find a new hotel which we did I recommend to go to the la Quinta hotel. When we arrived here we just got done with a 20 plus hour drive straight through so we were pretty exhausted. My husband checked in and found the room and we brought our dogs in and tried getting settled ( they also told us they were a pet friendly hotel so barking would be expected) well our dogs started to bark while we ran back down to the car to get some bags, the next thing I knew the security guard was at our door telling us we need or keep the dogs quiet and stop them from barking ( last time I checked that's what dogs do they bark). Anyway so we decided I would run down and grab my bags while he stays with the dogs. I looked for a luggage carrier and couldn't find one so decided to be super woman and carry as many bags as possible. As I struggled walking in with at least 4 good size bags I seen two employees and stopped to ask if they had a luggage carrier and the guy goes oh yeah but your going to have to get that in the lobby. I just thought to myself well geeze thanks for the help I'm clearly struggling with these bags and he didn't bother to offer to help carry them nor offer to go get one of the carts they simply walked away as if nothing happened. Now I know I shouldn't have carried that many bags but my gosh what happened to curtesy from hotel staff. The cherry on the top was when my husband went down to talk to the front desk they were extremely rude about the whole situation the dogs were literally barking for no more than 10 min while we ran down to our vehicles and came right back the treatment we received was wrong and I wouldn't recommend this hotel to anyone drive the extra few miles and stay somewhere with friendly staff. As for the hotel in general the beds were uncomfortable, the stairways smelled horrible, and the place in General was outdated. During our short stay we had the maintnece man come to our room twice to fix things that we never reported so they placed us in a room knowing things needed to be fixed it was more of a bother than anything. read more
