I came here because it isn't a place you might expect "a person like me to visit" and because I liked one of my barbers at beauty school so much that I decided to follow him to whatever shop he was at. They definitely specialize in working with women's hair and locks, but with the addition of Kornell, they certainly can accept male clients with comfortability. So, I knew I was going to get a quality cut. Something about this particular cut was one of my best. I think the following contributed to this: 1. I'm older and appreciate what's around me more. 2. I knew the salonist before. 3. The place was nice and inviting inside. 4. It was one of my best cuts ever I think. 5. I unintentionally fell asleep, but I didn't want to talk much since it's a pandemic and I have a mask on anyway. My salonist was still okay with it. Maybe also because I tend not to get fussy- I make for a great client for beauty schools cause I just like saving money to maintain my hair too. With the pandemic, the beauty schools were closed for awhile when I checked. So, I opted for regular salons. It helped that I had a few pictures for him to choose from before starting. I think it would be a cool feature if when I make the appointment in advance online, if I could attach pictures in a message along with doing the appointment in advance. That could potentially make it easier on the workers rather than having for me to scramble for pics on my phone and then letting them go through that. Which is okay too. If you arrive or can arrive earlier than your appointment last minute, it's best to call in advance to see if it would be helpful for them to have you come in earlier. I know this because I had a distance to go and couldn't predict when I could get there and park exactly. And then I had to use the bathroom and I almost still had to come back for my appointment, but my salonist saw me and said it would be better to take me in at that moment and I was fine with that. So, that's how I know, lol. Cause if they have another client running late, they might still try to accommodate that person even if they have to make that person wait since they were late to their own appointment. The prices for males seem standard for a professional place that offers quality haircuts. Even though they are further out from downtown, because the place inside is cozy and has a nice bathroom, they are able to fairly hold their own with the prices they offer. I could potentially see some people thinking that the prices are a bit high. Most of the reviews of this place are very positive, and I do get the sense they're reading these and that they try to improve from any mistakes from poor reviews that seem like they were fair and well intentioned.

(My hair had been in cornrows (professionally done) for 5 WEEKS before the appointment. The owner has LIED on Booksy and tried to state it was corn rowed for MONTHS. Not true! They also tried to lie and state (AFTER DESTROYING MY HAIR) I needed a trim when I had a trim done in April 2023. She did NOT use ANY heat protectant. Wow. To just LIE like that is INSANE! AT THIS POINT THIS ENTIRE BUSINESS IS A SCAM‼) First, the stylist (Jag)was late. Second, rules say no children in the salon but there was a child (maybe of the owner or other stylist) in the salon. Third, the wash was lackluster. Felt like she was grabbing my hair and gathering it too tight. Plus barely detangling it. Fourth, the neck towel was short and I had to hold it PLUS a hair cape wasn't draped on me so yes the top of my shirt collar did get wet and I later walked out into 40 degree weather. But that wasn't even what made it so bad. The stylist did not use any heat protectant and FRIED my hair. My hair was coming out in clumps. My 4c NATURAL HAIR was literally burnt off. The ends did the classic "spiderwebbing" and there were so many fair knots. The stylist was blow drying my hair with a comb attachment and a WIDE TOOTH COMB. I could HEAR and FEEL my hair being ripped out of my scalp. SHE WAS RACKING through it and not even detangling it. She was nearly 100% done with the front half of my head. I HAD to stop. I was soo disappointed and sad. She WAS apologetic. When I told her she was ripping my hair out She then says "it's just the ends" and also "it's not even a lot". My hair was all over the salons floor! I went home and immediately called the owner. She was apologetic and agreed that the stylist should have used a heat protectant. I rewashed and then blow dried my own hair. I LOST nearly 6 INCHES of hair. A YEAR OF GROWTH gone! I ended up having to ALSO trim another 1/2 to 3/4 inch because my ends were so frayed! After a few hours the owner states she apologies again and refunded the nearly $22 deposit. That's it. A wet neck, loads of tears, MORE HAIR TRAUMA from a BLACK OWNED WOMAN BUSINESS , 6 INCHES LOSS of hair ... A YEAR OF GROWTH SETBACK all gone in less than 1 HOUR I'm good faith, I CAN NOT recommend this business to anyone else especially anyone who is already hesitant to let people do their hair. I can't stop crying! She BUTCHERED my hair...she KNEW she was butchering my hair and decided that "it's not even a lot" and "it's only the ends"... And the owner gave me back my $22 and a sorry. I booked it about 2 weeks prior and was lucky enough to get an opening on labor day, Monday. Being a recent graduate with a 2 jobs, it is quite difficult to have time to do your hair on a daily basis, which is why I wanted my hair braided into marley twists. I have been to this salon for crotchet faux locs with Aundrea & I absolutely loved it. Now this is not the first time of me doing this hairstyle or using this particular type of hair. In the notes for the appointment, I stated what style I wanted. The day of, I showed the stylist, Kyiah, what I wanted the style to look & what it even looked on me when I did it previously. I made sure she was aware of the look I was going for. After a couple of the twists, I should've known to walk away immediately! However, I realized that this is my only chance to get my hair done and so I tried to troubleshoot the appointment. I asked her if I could feather the ends of the hair because she wasn't doing it herself. Everyone know to get a natural look for braids, you must to feather the ends! Also, I asked her why was she tying the ends of the twist together and cutting the hair off. I forget her answer. There are various ways to do hair but I've never seen this technique before in my life. I asked her if she could use less hair for each twist because it looked bulky as anything; she obliged. Then she increased the price of the hair based from that; even though we agreed on a set price when she called me to confirm the appointment the night before. The end result of the style looked as if some amateur tried the style as practice. Honestly, it was a shoddy and disgraceful work for the price she charged. I did not hate the hair but it wasn't what I wanted or liked at all. She said that the dipping the hair would help the hair but nothing changed, except my back being wet. I really wanted to get out of the place so I paid my money ($145) and left. It wasn't until my mom saw the hair was when I actually cried. I still don't know why she butchered my hair but luckily, I was able to fix it after re-twisting and curling the ends with perm rods, thank goodness. Unfortunately, even I know that this style won't last after 2 weeks. I'm writing this just so people are aware of this incident and to be cautious when going to any salon. On a better note, this experience taught me to speak up for myself early on because the customer should always be right. Ultimately, I do believe it was a waste of money and this salon has lost a good paying customer.

Kinaya is hands down the most knowledgeable, friendly, giving stylist I have ever been to…read more So, to back up a bit -- I had gone to another stylist a few weeks ago who dyed my hair a color I didn't ask for. I asked for a vibrant purple and she gave me a dark marroon. I was pretty unhappy about it so I searched online for another salon and found Textures and made my appointment. It turns out the previous stylist used a permanent dye on my hair so the marroon/red was incredibly difficult to lift from my hair. An appointment schedueld for an hour and fifteen minutes turned into a four hour appointment because Kinaya was determined to dye my 4c hair the color I wanted without damaging it. She put in blue dye at first but the color didn't take and was barely visible. She then put in a red/fuschia/orchard mixture and it finally worked. But it was 4 hours by the time everything was said and done! She most definitely did not have to spend all of that effort and sent me away unhappy with the dark blue/black barely there color but she wasn't going to give up until I had a color that pops and she absolutely ended up giving me an amazing color. Not only that, she was very informative throughout the appointment, suggesting products, explaining how to care for my dyed hair, dispelling current hair myths and more. I can't recommend Kinaya highly enough! I am so glad I have a new stylist who is going to let me rock fashionable colors, can't wait to come back!
