What happened was a gross misuse of professional authority and a public attempt to humiliate and discredit me after I dared to speak truth about my experience. He responded not as a doctor bound by ethics, but as someone trying to dominate the narrative, twisting facts, using religious undertones, weaponizing tone, and publicly labeling me as "belligerent" or "violent." That's psychological manipulation disguised as professionalism. It's exactly the kind of behavior that traumatizes people and leaves them in such shock, that after yes, even after six months they finally a review (which they hate doing) because the experience still haunts them. The "brainwashed righteousness," lack of apology, and moral superiority are classic traits of people who use belief or "healing" as a shield to avoid accountability. The way he spoke about my husband and finances was invasive and boundary-breaking. I'm not crazy for being upset, I'm right to be outraged. What he did was inappropriate, unethical, and crosses a serious line. Filing a complaint isn't about revenge, or an attack which he took it as. It's about making sure people like this can't continue harming and offending others who come in seeking care. This is in response to Kate P's review and the doctor's response to her review. I was there for the first visit, which was actually a consultation with some testing. That's why she went back for a second time, for the actual treatment. So, no "subsequent visits" were made, just a consultation and a treatment, which is when she was presented with a long-term, and very expensive, care plan. I also remember there being some issue where the results of the testing would not be discussed until after a treatment was booked & completed. That confused both of us, because why not discuss the test results BEFORE making any adjustments? Just seemed a bit strange. Unfortunately, my experience aligns with Kate on the religious aspect, and the comments of "attitude adjustments" while adjusting the coccyx. I believe the exact comment made to me was "I like to tell the husbands this is an attitude adjustment for the wives" and then explained that adjusting the coccyx is scientifically proven to improve mood. Regardless of either Kate or the doctor's experience, the lack of a genuine apology and any level of accountability is highly concerning in the doctor's response. The doctor's response feels manipulative, defensive, and professionally inappropriate. For me, there are several things here that violate both ethics and credibility standards for healthcare communication: 1. Character Assassination Instead of Accountability The accusation of "belligerently throwing a credit card" is a classic smear tactic. First of all, there were no credit cards "thrown" at anyone. That simply didn't happen. She also had every right to be upset after feeling bulldozed into a care plan that was wildly expensive for her. But that is a far cry from being "belligerent". Using language like "violent," "rude," "THROWING" feels emotionally charged, deeply inaccurate, seems legally risky, & highly inappropriate to include in a public response to a review of someone's experience. It shifts focus from Kate's legitimate complaints and reframes her as unstable or aggressive, which to me, feels like deflection. I'm also pretty sure that discussing any aspect of the treatment is a HIPAA violation. 2. Defensiveness & Gaslighting Phrases like: "You came back for MULTIPLE subsequent visits" "This still seemed like a misunderstanding" "We care more about your outcomes than your finances" All feel like classic gaslighting. What phrases like that do is reframe dissatisfaction as emotional confusion or lack of gratitude rather than a legitimate business concern. They feel like narrative control instead of clarification. The reason she came back at all for any follow-up visit after the initial consultation & testing was because of how the structure of the visits is set there... hence the confusion why we HAD TO book a follow-up treatment session in order to even discuss the test results. 3. Absence of Ownership or Apology This to me is the biggest issue here: I never once saw phrases like: "I'm sorry for the confusion over the way our payment structure was presented." Or "I'm so sorry you were made to feel uncomfortable by the religious aspect of my practice or the religious things I said, or the outdated / chauvinistic jokes I made to your husband". Or "I'm so sorry you left in even more pain." Or anything that involves a sincere apology with even a shred of ownership. Instead, what I read felt like a doubling down on being "right", cites "false information", & only reinforces that she must have misunderstood something. What that does is place the blame of her bad experience in the office on her & her alone. That's not how a reputable clinician handles feedback. We've been going to dr. Michael for 6 months now, and cannot recommend him more! He provides specific, gentle chiropractic care, and is excellent about educating you as he goes. He is super friendly, and great with kids! His wife, Jennilin is great, and the office has a great family atmosphere, no need to be nervous to bring your kids in! I had terrible back pain that just kicked in one day and finally decided to see a chiropractor and I'm glad I did. There ended up being a lot of things wrong with my spine. Dr. Michael was able to find out what was wrong pretty quick and just the first adjustment made noticeable changes where I could even sleep better. Still down the road to healing, and all adjustments have been gentle and not what I originally thought going to a chiropractor would be like.
