I visited Grace for Open House Chicago, so whilst I can't speak to the worship experience I did enjoy walking through the sanctuary and learning a bit about it's history. It's very high church. It's an extraordinary example of gothic revival style. Its architect, John Sutcliffe, and retains the character and vision for the church that the architect and original congregation had in mind.
My favorite part was probably the choir and chancel. The rood screen is beautifully intricate, and it too was designed by Sutcliffe. When I was walking through the church I the choir was practicing, and the acoustics in the church were wonderful; the choir was really beautiful. The pianist continued to play after the choir had concluded and that resounded throughout the space.
There are beautiful windows throughout the church, along all walls. The ones in the chancel depict the saints, except for Judas who is replaced instead by Saint Paul. There are detailed windows surrounding the sanctuary slightly above the pews, and there are upper level windows surrounding the church.
I wouldn't mind attending a service here sometime to see the place whilst in the midst of worship and see how the sun lights up the windows. There is a parking lot to the west of the building. read more
