I have tried out several churches and believe that Hope has been checking all my spiritual boxes. I can't explain it, but unlike the other churches, Hope beckons me toward it. I look forward to Church service every Sunday! Everyone is so kind and inviting. Pastor Donn strongly relates the lords message to this day and age and makes the gospel palatable to baby Christians like me. It's a multicultural environment, all races, ages and subcultures. You have the OGs from East Los embracing their conservative white brothers and sisters, to the alternative "rockers" like me. This is such an accepting place for someone like me who always felt like I didn't belong in a church. I was welcomed with open arms, despite how much I tried to shy away. On one of my first visits to the church, someone I didn't know came up to me and introduced herself. She said, "oh, hello! I haven't said hello to you!" As if greeting an old friend. I was filled with so much warmth and love! It actually made me feel like I belonged and was wanted. There is always available parking for Sunday Service! I know other churches don't have many choices for parking, but Hope has a parking lot and ample street parking. The church is active within the community and they have done more than the other churches I have been to. The size of the congregation is perfect; it's not small, but it's also not obnoxiously huge. I wanted someplace where I can build a connection with fellow members. If you're looking for the same, I would definitely recommend Hope!

On a…read morequick run through San Gabriel, I hankered for a peaceful walk through the mission but it ended up being a rainy day and with limited time on $15 admission fee, I decided to just walk around the outside of the building and peek through the gate. The gardens seemed lovely and well cared for. Even though I was on the outside, it was lovely to see the historical buildings of the mission, the auditorium and others down the street. I'll have to return sometime. It was a nice little escape and break on a road trip.

The people are what make the Church what it is and I give them credit for always setting up and doing all they do for Sunday Service. There is even coffee and waters available for free every Sunday. Although the Church does not have the bells and whistles , the Message is bible focused and the people are very welcoming. The Word is spoken here and is constantly put first, and the message of the Services are ones I take with me every week. Giving is optional and never forced , in fact we pray before every offering and reference the bible before every giving which is nice. I very much look forward to the Sunday services given from Pastor Michael but also love how they bring in other Pastors to speak from time to time who are just as amazing. I hope to get more involved soon and the Church makes it feel possible and not pressured, it's actually coming from me which would have never happened if I didn't come here. The Church has a welcoming " next steps " program , multiple different groups, and is always encouraging the people of the community to grow in their Faith together. Then, the administrators or people running it said they had a feeling they would receive complaints about this. Wouldn't they want to warn people ahead of time to avoid complaints? It seemed as though they purposely didn't tell us, so they could take our money because they knew that if we knew how the age groups would not be separated, we would not sign up and pay. This church values money over people's contentment and well-being. However, I highly recommend going to Hope Christian Fellowship.

Rather than nurturing spiritual growth, the environment often suppressed critical thinking and used guilt as a means of control. A specific incident involving the youth pastor raised serious ethical concerns that were never adequately addressed by the church leadership. I brought these concerns forward, but was met with deflection and silence. No accountability. No transparency. Looking back, it's clear that what was presented as mentorship was, in many ways, a misuse of spiritual authority. If you're seeking a faith community grounded in integrity, compassion, and open dialogue, I urge you to look elsewhere.

Back in 2017 I had gone to a women's conference, Godchicks She Rises, and I was so heavily lead by the spirit to find a local church. At the time I was not going to any church but God put it in my heart. The last day of the conference day I went home and began searching for churches in my local are. That is when I found Gateway community church. Gateway truly is a community. They took us in with open arms and welcomed my whole family. Since the very First Sunday that we step through the doors of Gateway we felt loved and we kept coming back no matter how difficult life got or how much we choose to live our own lives. There are some amazing people here that have a Heart for Jesus. It's seen through their actions. There has been a conscious effort by many to be apart of my families lives. They were there for us through the good and the bad. We never felt judgment from others, just a welcoming hand and lots of LOVE. Then I realized people need to know about our church. We have been coming to Gateway Community Church since 1997. Yes, there are so many churches to choose from in the SGV, but from the first day we attended, we knew we found a place that we can truly connect with and call home. I love the fact that most everyone is so welcoming to newcomers. It's not like you go unnoticed (like how it is in large churches). It's a smaller congregation, so it seems more inviting. You can stick around after service and have coffee and snacks and just mingle and get aquatinted with others. As a church we do lots of fun things as well. Throughout the years we've attended picnics in the park, baseball games, beach outings, game nights, bowling, youth camps, retreats. I really love the Small Groups that I attend.
