I recently took my Camry here for a transmission fluid change, and I had my Prius's washer fluid lines and pump changed today. The service and price is excellent considering time and labor, they are straightforward and honest about the risks of doing service on a vehicle (eg. Old transmission fluid changes), and will give you suggestions before proceeding with a repair, letting you choose what you think is best and fits your budget. I live out of state, but my college-age daughter lives in New Orleans. Her Toyota had some lights on the dashboard, and the quick-lube oil change place she used a few weeks ago told her it had an oil leak. She also broke a tire beyond repair in one of NOLA's epic potholes. I referred her to to GR Automotive based on the Yelp reviews. GR said the dashboard lights were just due to maintenance interval not being reset, explained that the oil leak was minor and not worth the money to repair, and they also replaced the broken tire for less than what I paid when I had new tires put on her car in 2020. Rick and his team were truly a blessing when my A/C went out in the middle of the summer. The drivers side was warm (90 degrees F) and the passenger side was only slightly cooler (85 degrees). I called after they had already closed, and he still answered the phone and told me to come in the following morning. He told me it would be ready by 1pm, by 1pm that day, I had my car and it was blowing nothing but freezing cold air. He even changed my oil when I called and requested he do that on short notice. They kept their word on completion time, charged me a fair price for the work, and completed everything extremely quickly. Couldn't really ask for more. They also have a cool service where you can drop off your car when they are closed, and leave your key in a lockbox with a form explaining the problem or requested services. Such a cool idea, and added points for convenience. I will definitely be back here the next time I need work on my car. read more

Had to update my review because of the service here that is not only consistent and excellent, but gets better with each visit to the shop. Taking your vehicle in to get repairs has never a fun chore, as it usually means time without your car and a hefty bill. Rick and his team have totally changed my mind about that. Not to mention, the turnaround time is surprisingly quick and I'm never without a car for more than a day. It's been nearly 2 years since my review and I'm still a fan of Rick's. After my initial visit, I kept having small issues with my truck, so I kept going back to GR Automotive. It was to the point where Rick had told me he hopes he won't see me for a while. Really though. What mechanic would say that when my coming by would mean more money for him? Fortunately, I did manage to stay away for a while. Actually I was starting to worry that maybe parts of my car were slowly falling apart without me knowing because I hadn't had a mechanic look at it in a while. My office had a retreat merely blocks away from GR Automotive this morning, so I dropped off my truck to have Rick take a look. I expected to spend a little bit of money on maintenance. I was pleasantly surprised that no work was needed immediately, although he did tell me about a couple of things that I should take care of in the near future. I did have the transmission fluid changed and got new air filters, and I didn't notice until I got in the car that Rick had changed the wipers for me as well. My ex had bought those a little while ago and was supposed to put them on for me but that didn't get done so I was just riding around with the new wipers in the back seat, figuring I'll do it myself at some point. Well, its been a poop week starting with a nail in my tire. I knew I needed to get it patched. So I called GR Automotive to see if they could do that. Popped the spare on my car and drove my little honda over. I'm really bad with cars but I know mine needs a little TLC. When it rains it pours right? Rick, who was VERY helpful and kind, told me that I probably just need to replace my tires, which is true. I needed new tires, but just the thought of purchasing tires kills me. I'm sure everyone feels that way. Rick took care of Sally the Civic and even changed her oil. I have to go back because Sally is getting old and needs a bearing replacement. I have sent friends to this mechanic shop when I haven't had the time to either diagnose a problem or have not been able to do the repair due to lack or skill or tools. Product: Parts for whatever automobile fix. Not sure on the cost. (No rating) Service: They have drop off service for those not able to come in during business hours. I've found the service provided to be proficient. One time, I replaced the alternator on the lady-friend's car, only to not be able to put the serpentine belt back one. This is not something I would suggest anyone do (half fix a problem), because professionals loathe cleaning up someone else's mess, but they only charged what I thought was fair for service, and it was done in a relatively timely manner. 3 stars Facilities: The building looks to be a revamped old gas station a block or so past the river side of Magazine on Louisiana. It isn't much to write home about as far as decor, but that is irrelevant anyway. There is a simple waiting room as well. 3 stars Overall: A fair mechanic shop that is convenient to those living in Uptown New Orleans. Rick took it for a road test and except for a minor realignment pronounced it a healthy typically jarring teeth-gnashing Jeep. No charge. BELIEVE THE HIGH MARKS AND COMPLIMENTS! Rick really is all that. His demeanor is self-confident but helpful. He truly wants your vehicle to get fixed...no shenanigans. I now intend to go off-warranty and have him service my car and not the dealership. AND GR IS IN THE MIDDLE OF UPTOWN well, Louisiana at Magazine, but that's pretty darn convenient for most of us. My one complaint is that the hours are unfriendly for office workers: 8-5, M-F. However I went by at 7:30AM and they took me anyway. read more

Brought my car in yesterday to be serviced and get a tire replaced. Rick is the one who helped me out. Like a lot of the reviews mention, the shop is honest and they don't try to upsell you or push services on you that you don't need. I noticed my radio clock was set when I got my car back. It read the wrong time for a while because of my laziness. The service code reminders in the dash were also reset (which some shops often don't bother with). Best experience I have ever had with any automotive service, hands down. I called and he said to drop my car off whenever, during or after hours. Rick and his team diagnosed the issue within a few hours, finished the work before expected, and the bill came in under what they estimated (and under what Googling told me those services cost). They did a thorough job checking out any other possible issues, and notified be that my drive belt isn't in great condition, but told me that it's not too urgent and didn't push the issue at all. Wasn't prepared for that level of honesty, since pretty much every other shop I've ever been to has tried to tack on additional unnecessary services like replacing the filter, tires, etc. Truly incredible service in every way. After traveling nearly 3500 miles on the first half of our cross country road trip, my husband and I decided it would be best to have our car checked out. We were already aware that our brakes needed to be replaced soon, and sure enough, Rick confirmed that our brakes did indeed need to be changed. What I appreciated is that Rick didn't try to prey on our vulnerability as he knew we were traveling with our newborn and had another 3000 or so miles left on our trip. If we drove mostly freeway miles, Rick noted, our car would be able to make it home just fine. Right then, I knew I wanted to give him our business. Being on a rigid schedule on our the second half of our road trip, I also appreciated that Rick and his crew performed all the work within 3 hours of being dropped off. He called back when he said he would, and was upfront and clear about the work being performed and the associated costs. My friend lives in Baton Rouge and earlier this week she had to commute to New Orleans to complete some tasks for a client. She had been driving all around town and eventually noticed that her tire was making a strange noise. I checked her tire and found a huge bolt had punctured it. I used Yelp to find the nearest tire place - We went to GR Automotive. We were immediately greeted by a service provider upon our arrival. GR did it again! My aging Altima's AC decided to start blowing hot air. At least it wasn't in the middle of summer, but let's face it, the weather has been bouncing back and forth from cold to warm like a yo-yo lately. On one particularly balmy and rainy morning, my wife could barely see out of the fogged over windshield. Try defrosting that with lukewarm and moist air. It's not going to happen. Anyway, I had to get it fixed. Rick was able to diagnose the issue for me. Unfortunately it wasn't going to be a simple freon job. Nope. My old Altima needed a new compressor, hoses, belt, etc. They ordered the parts, had them there the next day. I dropped off my car in the morning, and it was done later that afternoon. Service! Very rarely do I see a business on Yelp with all positive reviews. When I needed new brakes on my BMW recently, I decided to give GR a try. I dropped my car off around 9am, and by 11 they called back with an estimate. They patiently explained the breakdown of parts and labor, and explained a couple of options for the maintenance work. I got a call back at 4:30pm the same day to let me know my car was ready. I couldn't make it until right at 5. The shop was closed up, but one of the mechanics was just leaving, and he reopened everything so I could pay and pick up my vehicle. The shop is small but insanely clean and organized. It's so clean that I'm not even sure they actually repair cars there. At the end of the day all the tools were picked up and there wasn't a drop of grease in sight. I like to think they treated my car the same way. 10/10 would recommend. read more

My uncle is the most amazing mechanic you could ever worth with and if you're ever in NYC you should check him out: who doesn't love a man with a Caribbean accent, am I right? My uncle, a stern but sweet West Indian man taught his niece a little something (a lot) about cars and why anyone could reasonably be mistrustful of an auto repair shop: most people know a little diddy about cars but nothing to be helpful, especially in the age of cars run on computers.
