Although I went for the chicken crackling on this visit. I have thoroughly enjoyed the chicken salad, chicken wings, deboned chicken, crawfish dressing, ribs, and steaks. Believe it or not, there are still so many more items for me to try. This is a family owned business. I love seeing the growing wall of family pictures. The workers are nice and welcoming and the service is quick. Until next time... read more

I haven't been here in ages. I was preparing Thanksgiving this year. I purchased a boneless, stuffed turkey. (Not the famous turducken). It was well seasoned and included directions. The guests loved it. read more

We have purchased and shipped to California: -turducken -stuffed deboned turkey (cornbread dressing) -stuffed chicken (crawfish rice & shrimp dressing) - sides of cornbread, crawfish rice & shrimp rice dressing - stuffed Pork chops - seafood gumbo (lots of crab meat) - shrimp & crawfish etouffee -turducken & pork sausage - jalepeno cheddar brisket sausage. The stuffed turkey and chickens are fabulous. We love the traditional cornbread dressing for holidays. The shrimp rice / crawfish rice stuffed chickens, I keep in the freezer for weeknight meals. It makes the best chicken and rice dinner. The gumbo is delicious, as is the crawfish and shrimp etouffee. I keep quarts of the etouffee and gumbo in my freezer for quick easy meals. The sausages are amazing, the jalepeno cheddar brisket sausage and turducken sausage are family favorites and I keep them frozen and serve over polenta for weeknight dinner. Overall very high quality food you would expect from New Orleans. The stuffed turkeys and turducken are foolproof & effortless for holidays meals. Everyone raves about them! But don't overlook the stuffed chickens, side dishes, and sausages. The chickens make for the best roast chicken dinners ever! They are so delicious and with the shrimp or crawfish stuffing it makes for an easy fantastic chicken and rice meal. Highly recommended 10/10 read more

On Monday, Nov. 3rd I ordered 18 items to be sent to Portland Oregon. Two boxes were shipped the same day and arrived at my door the afternoon of Nov. 5th. I opted for the 2-day shipping instead of the overnight shipping due to considerable savings. Everything arrived in good packaging and still completely frozen. I have been frequenting this butcher shop for many years, after I first saw them demonstrating deep fried turkey at Jazz Fest. This is a fantastic company, with quality product and wonderful staff. My Thanksgiving table will be graced with de-boned turkey, saving me a lot of work. Thank you Butcher Block. read more

When one does not feel like cooking, Butcher Block is a great option. Nice employees, usually no wait. Ambiance: n/a. My favorites are: their bread pudding is fiya fiya and comes with a sweet sauce. Also crawfish & corn soup, de-boned chicken with sausage, shrimp, and crawfish, and rice dressing. Items come seasoned already and their are easy instructions on packaging to follow for preparing at home. read more

Well, this only concerns the John Madden turducken. I had such high expectations and we were really looking forward to it. Gold belly shipped it on time so we were all set. It was very expensive ($200 plus shipping) and if you follow the cooking instructions for a thawed Turduckhen, you'll dry it out like cardboard. Do yourself a favor and use a meat thermometer to get an instant temperature reading after 3 1/2 hours and check it every so often after that. It would be nice if they put guidance on meat temperature versus just a timed cook. I guess they're trying to be ultra safe versus relying on customers to ensure the temperature. I followed their instructions unfortunately, and it was a disaster Christmas meal. So disappointing. read more

For years we have been talking about getting a turducken and as a surprise for Mother's Day, ordered one from this shop via gold belly. One hundred percent satisfied. thought it might be too spicy but the spice blend was delicious! added some drippings to gravy from a jar and WOW! Plenty of big slices of turkey/duck/chicken/stuffing, plus leftovers for all. Easy meal. Super easy carving. Everyone was so excited to see inside as I carved it. Don't know how they do this but it had to be quite a bit of work. Packaged with extreme care, it arrived on exact date it was supposed to. Would buy again. read more

For years as a child, I heard of the Madden Turducken but was deprived because it was realistic to get it from NOLA to Iowa. Then as an adult, I have wanted this and had no excuse for the continued deprivation. Now thanks to Goldbelly and the interweb overloads of cerebral targeting. I was coerced to buy the infamous turducken. Highly offended at their ability to read my mind while searching for the perfect hosting turkey I succumbed. After all, I have wanted this forever and there is no way it could live up to the hype in my mind. False: This was everything I could have wanted and more. Hats off to Gourmet Butcher Block and John Madden for making the world aware read more

Only in Nee Orleans! Love the Gourmet Butcher Block! Quality product, excellent customer service! I have only bought Bodin there, but the food was delicious and the service was great. I'll be going back many times again.

We moved to the Belle Chasse area about 2 years ago and we were told that this was a great place for things to pick up when you are having people over and want to cook at home. We have bought the pork tenderloin several times and the chicken with cornbread stuffing, the chicken with crawfish stuffing, and the chicken with shrimp stuffing. Everything was so tasty and the directions on each item for cooking was easy to read and follow. We look forward to our visits there and trying new items. read more

Bread Pudding looks so delicious. I only one day left in New Orleans and could not eat all of it.

Has a lot to choose from. Everyone was very nice and helpful. Can't wait to get home and eat theses steaks

The new chicken cracklin is really good but someone's pepper hand was a little heavy on the batch I picked up today & it is ridiculously priced at $18.99 a pound for fried chicken tenders seemingly wrapped with pig skin. Love the food at Butcher Block but the prices are a little wild. Even when you buy in bulk no discount. Example $150 in boudin.. overall good people & good food. read more

Friendly service. Stuffed chicken are amazing and easy to follow. You also must try the brisket sausage.

So upset because I love this place. When I visit I usually spend about $150 on items that my family and I enjoy. Yesterday I heated up the crawfish pie in the oven right? The crust was super flaky and the filling was so good! After a couple of delicious bites, I pulled a long, dark curl of a tight pattern out of my mouth. I was so disgusted and upset because the pie was really good. Very disappointed; I knew for a fact that it wasn't my hair because my hair was in a bun and my curl pattern is not even remotely close to that. So annoyed too because the pie was so good and the products here aren't cheap ;( Please have the ladies messing with the food wear hair nets. read more

2 year in a row that we purchase some of their catering stuff for thanksgiving. This year we ordered the debone stuff chicken with cornbread dressing and it was soooo good! Moist and delicious. I prefer it over the turkey. We also order their seafood gumbo (comes frozen) but once heated it was a hit. The Mac and cheese was good as well. Comes frozen and you'll have to pop it in the oven. We'll be making more trips here vs just only on the holidays. They have such a huge selections on casseroles and other Cajun items. read more

This place has great service and has so many custom options. Example: if you need to tone down the spice on one of their delicious suffer chickens, just have one made to order with no seasoning. TIP: The broccoli casserole stuffed is lowest in the spicy scale. Tons of great options for your grill and plenty of Cajun favorites like boudin, gumbo, crawfish etouffe, etc!! Stop by here next time you're grilling out or have visitors from out of state who want some "home cooked" Louisiana food, just don't tell em where you got it . read more

Gourmet Butcher Block has been around for a long time and for good reason. All of their food is incredible. All varieties of stuffed meat are available. The stuffed chickens are particularly good. My favorite is the chicken stuffed with sausage. They also have varieties stuffed with cornbread and seafood. Their shish-kabobs are the best I've had. Although they didn't invent the Turduckhen, they perfected it. If you want one for a holiday, order ahead, they get a bunch of orders. Each item comes with cooking instructions which make your life easier. I highly recommend this place. There was a Northshore location, but it closed. I may have to start bringing a ice chest to work so I can load up before I head home. read more

What a treasure this place is. Got some cooked links of their boudin to try ($2 a link, great price) and sampled their bread pudding. Wow.....had to come back and fill a cooler with the boudin and got a "kit" of the bread pudding to take home to south Florida. Tons of amazing looking seasoned Cajun meats, clean place and friendly, affable owner and employees. Will definitely return next time I'm in the area. If I lived in NOLA I'd be at this shop every week. read more

This is the place to go if you want a delicious cajun dinner to make at home. I purchased two deboned stuffed chickens (shrimp/rice), two packs of crawfish boudin and a order of potato salad for my dad. Everything is delicious and easy to prepare. The price is very good with the deboned stuffed chickens at 12.00 a piece. The crawfish boudin was 7.00 and the LARGE portion of potato salad was 12.00. Gourmet Butcher Block - Deboned shrimp/rice stuffed chicken. So, so delicious! - Grocery Near Me - Gretna, Louisiana

Found out about this place by accident. We were on a guided redfish charter quite a few years back. The guide service fed us the shrimp and rice stuffed chicken from the Gourmet Butcher Block. They were delicious. This was back before smart phones and Yelp. Finding it was a little more of a challenge the first time. I am not from Louisiana so it isn't convenient for me to come here. However every time I'm close by I always make a point to pick up a few of the stuffed boneless chickens to bring home and put in the freezer. They make a good meal when you don't have a lot of time to prepare something. read more

Best boudin in New Orleans. Being a Cajun while living in NOLA is TOUGH. There are a vast array of restaurants and meat shops that claim to have authentic cajun food and meats. Sadly, many are far from authentic. In most cases, creole cuisine is confused with cajun and you end up with some dish covered in stewed tomatoes. I digress from my point. I checked out the Gourmet Butcher Block and was blown away! When you walk in, you are met with a huge assortment of meats and pre-made dishes, ready to take home and cook up. My buddy and I picked up some chicken and pepper jack sausage as well as a marinated pork tenderloin. What we came for though was the boudin. We grabbed six links to go, hot, and cut up to bite size pieces. Absolutely delicious. The boudin is a tad bit soggy, but that's probably because they just got done cooking it. I'm so happy that I don't have to drive all the way to Lafayette or Scott for good boudin and neither do you! read more

This place is amazing. I've never seen so many different types of stuffed meats! My family and I come here every Thanksgiving to pick up a deboned stuffed chicken with crawfish dressing. It's always the first dish to disappear. I was smart enough this year to pick up two stuffed chickens! I baked one for my family and stashed one for myself in my fridge (greedy I was). This place is great if you're lazy to cook and want to pick up anything to throw in the oven for a delicious dinner. I had a sample of the bread pudding while I was in line checking out. Pretty tasty, I'll probably be back to pick up some bread pudding next time. read more

If you are looking for boudin links as close favor-wise to Lafayette LA than get their porck boudin links! It is a more rice to meat ratio, but the flavor is all cajun. Hands down best specialty meat store in Nola, maybe even all of Louisiana. I lived in Lafayette for a few years but moved to South Florida and need my Cajun fix. Butcher Block is able to overnight me all their goodies in dry ice. Their stuffed catfish, stuffed mushrooms and jalapeños, chicken salad and shrimp salad are my favorites. It may be located in New Orleans but it's 100% pure Cajun. Whether you live in the area or are out of state and are craving some stuffed chickens, give this place a try! read more
