I have been his patient for 12 yrs and never had a problem until recently. Not refilling meds that are I need everyday to control pain is not cool. You've moved into an office with the rudest receptionist ever. You only work 2 days a week, so getting in touch with you is impossible especially when the rude person won't put messages through. Yes I had I bad day after no meds for 5 days, even tho pharmacy faxed in as they have every other month and the staff didn't get it done. So yes I yelled at the lady because she swore she called into pharmacy on day 4, but pharmacist didn't get it til Morning of day 5. But just because I yelled doesn't mean you basically blow me off and not fill meds. You should have retired before this and not cause so many issues with your patients. read more

Dr. Gould is confident. He dresses well. Lots of energy. Fast thinker. Always on time. Always. Receptionist is the nicest person Ive met but has been released from his practice. Also he is quite arrogant, pompous, jittery, insensitive, blunt, lacks eye-contact and quick to tell you if he doesnt like what you say. As soon as he walks in he cannot wait to get the appointment over with. He is always correct and the patient and caregivers are beneath him. He appears to not care if he is a liked. Once he has made you feel small and dispensable he will not give you a second thought. Im guessing that he may be on the autism spectrum so he is forgive-able. So if you have thick skin then this is the doctor for you because through all of that he is quite knowledgeable. read more

Dr Gould was referred to me by my Internist Dr Linda Eglin. His office staff (Pam) got me in immedialtely as she promised she would. I found Dr Gould to be a no-nonsense kind of guy. He listened to me intently, took the time at great length to explain what was happening and proceeded to discuss with me my choices.for care--- I REALLY like this guy. To the point, gives me choices, great sense of humor, detail oriented and personable. He knew exactly what was the health issue I was complaining about...and gave me options. I'm a bit baffled by the mixed reviews. I've had debilitating migraines for years, and have seen Dr. Gould for about 10 years. He is always welcoming to me, asks me about my work, and always makes sure to ask about how my current medications are working. I was on a medical leave due to chronic migraines, and his office was more than happy to fax an updated return date which would have me returning to work 2 weeks past the original date. I'm a doctor's daughter, so I take people on my medical team very seriously. Competency, confidence, and a good personality are all things that are a must for me. He has more of a relaxed personality, but that doesn't make him flippant or rude. He honestly cares about you as well as your medical issues. He even took the time to teach me how to read my scans. I can't say enough good things about Janine. She is a gem, and totally lovely. I feel really lucky to have found Dr. Gould. **I've been a patient of Dr. Gould long enough to have seen 2 office managers turnover. It was definitely for the best. I went to see Dr. Gould and I have to say I was impressed. His receptionist was so kind and friendly and went above and beyond to help me out. I had a brain tumor a few years ago and have seen a lot of neurologists. Dr Gould has been by far my favorite. He spent almost an hour really listening to me and trying to get me the best help possible. you can tell he is so so knowledgeable. I really really recommend him. I was referred to Dr. Gould to discuss some MRI results. I called to set up an appointment, but the receptionist doesn't do a good job of answering the phone, so I left a message. A few days later I still hadn't gotten a call back so I called again. No answer. Finally after repeated calls I got through and got an appointment set up. The office seemed nice and inviting and the receptionist was actually very friendly, albeit a little inept. I was taken into a messy room and the receptionist/nurse took my blood pressure. A few minutes later the doctor came in. From the moment he walked into the room I could tell that he had already made up his mind about me, and he hadn't even met me or even looked at my MRI images. As others have mentioned here he gives the appearance of being concerned and wanting to help but after a few minutes it becomes painfully obvious that he is being condescending and even rude. Like one other reviewer said, he essentially told me that it was "all in my head", I was making it all up and there was nothing wrong with me. I have anxiety and that's the cause of it all, he implied. He said that doctors use diagnostic tests too often (???) when they should instead use their intuition to decide what is wrong, if anything. He still hadn't even seen my MRI images, so I mentioned this and he said ok we will look at them together. He couldn't get his computer to read the images (I had no problem viewing them on my home PC), so he left the room to try another computer, but to no avail. He then became abrupt and told me there was nothing wrong with me but he would keep the disc and look at my images at another time. I left feeling sheepish and stupid, even though I know it was his condescending manner that made me feel that way. I picked up my disc and have an appointment with another Neurologist, one I hope will be much better. Dr. Robert Gould is a Quack with a capital Q. Avoid at ALL costs!! read more

I recently visited the Los Gatos area for an extended stay and needed to see someone about my migraines. A friend of mine referred me to Dr. Gould, as she had heard he was excellent. She was right - Dr. Gould was very thorough and professional. He spent a lot of time with me, which I really appreciated, and he was very personable, which put me at ease. I don't quite understand why the negative reviews had an issue. I've never once had a problem with doctor Gould. My only issue is him not giving me a list of the meds I cannot/can take, you know drug interactions. But other than that he has been very helpful. He put me on Keppra at first which had horrible side effects he worked me with to switch it to lamictal. And I have had no problem since. Basically the guy is good. He may seem a little short with people but I think that's just how he is. I don't think he would be considered unprofessional. He is a good doctor overall in my opinion read more

I am hoping clients and potential clients take my review seriously. We have been patients of Dr.Gould for over 25 years now. Dr.Gould is a very knowledgeable, skilled, experienced doctor. He is a professional who is highly respected by us. Dr. Gould has only helped our disease throughout the years. The medication prescribes is a very powerful one that must be monitored closely. It has to be adjusted from time to time according to the brain. Dr. Gould has always been accurate in his adjustments. He knows his profession and is a very intelligent dr. We have also had some really nice talks with him on a friend level! He is a great doctor and a really nice man. For people who judge so fast andgive not so nice reviews, I believe are wrong. I have seen many Neurologist and had some good and bad experiences. Dr. Gould was a very bad experience. The receptionist was very friendly. Dr. Gould made feel very uncomfortable. I feel as though he didn't listen to me at all. I went over my medical history and all the medications. I also inform him of all the side affects regarding the medicine. Dr. Gould told me what he wanted me to take even though I told him I coudn't take certain medications. He also inform regardless what I did he would get paid regardless so basically he didn't care. Dr Gould stated he was a top headache specialist. I would not be returning back to Dr. Gould, Back to the drawing board. Hopefully I get a Doctor who will listen and care about my health and not a paycheck. read more

I have known Dr. Gould for nearly 17 years. He is a gentle kind doctor who listens. He knows when a further investigation is needed and refers his patients at that time. His office staff is not only competent but extremely kind. You do not hire people with those characteristics unless you are too. I first became a patient many years ago in a search for my migraine headaches. Dr Gould explained that there were many options out there and together we would find the best solution for me. I tried about 4 that didn't seem to work before finally hitting on one that was successful for me. He never once made me feel that I wasn't giving the others a "good effort". I returned to him again for a different problem and although I am discouraged that we have not yet found the answers to my current problem I am not without hope. He assures me that we will continue to address my concerns with the other options available. I find him to be caring, candid and cooperative. First and foremost, do you research before going to any neurologist. At first visit I found Dr. Gould intuitive. I was hopeful to hear his diagnosis. By my second visit, I had changed my mind. He dismissed my chief complaint, and I can only imagine how he might make other patients feel like "it's all in their heads" (no pun intended). I had a family member come with me, and they noted that there was almost a visible "eye roll" from the doc when I was explaining my problem. I do not take going to the doctor lightly, nor make any type of habit of doing so, but this doctor has a way of making people feel like they are a hypochondriac. I have continued to suffer in silence, still not knowing what my real problem might be. By the way, both times his receptionist was crabby, and smelled like cigarettes - yuck! Do yourself a favor and take the time to do your research. I'm still on the quest to finding someone who will take me seriously. It makes me wonder why people go into the medicine field in the first place, as it seems they loose sight of helping others. If I could rate Dr. Gould at a zero I would. I was involved in a severe car crash. I had been seeing a neck and back Doctor in Redwood City. ( I live in San Jose) I was referred to an awesome neurologist who worked in the same practice as my neck and back Doctor. This neurologist tried four categories of narcotics for migraines due to my traumatic brain injury. None of these medications worked. The next step was botox. 31 injections starting above my eyebrows....proceeding to each side of my head...on to my neck and shoulders. These injections did the trick. They lasted for two to two and one half months. The injections were done with a very small gauge needle, so very tolerable, and easy. Sadly my neurologist moved to Tahoe about a year after I started treated with him. I decided to find a neurologist, who administered botox closer to my home. I did not check yelp reviews!!! I went to see Dr. Gould. At the initial interview I could see he was not listening to me or my concerns. I told him about all the medications I had tried prior to being treated with botox for migraines. He wanted me to try the medications I had tried again. I told him they did not work....hence I was being treated with botox every two to two and a half months. At this initial interview he was very pompous and rude. I should have known then to go elsewhere. I was desperate for relief and decided against my better judgement to make an appointment for botox injections. He had me lay down on a table. ( I sat on a stool when I had the injections with the prior neurologist ) He said "are you ready?" The first injection I felt was sooooo painful. ( I have a VERY high pain tolerance ) This first injection felt like the needle was huge in diameter. On the second injection I said "yaoooooow that hurts" Dr. Gould said " just yell, it's OK" .....as he continued.....29 more pokes....or should I say stabs. Every area he injected was bleeding and red. As he injected some of the solution dripped down my face, sides of my head, neck and shoulders. I NEVER had any of this with my prior neurologist. Maybe some day Dr. Gould will need treatment of some kind. I hope he receives exactly what he had given me and others.....rude, pompous, know it all, not listening to the patient, uncaring, and very very poor patient quality of care. read more

I have never written a negative review on Yelp before; however, I feel it important to let other potential patients know of my experiences so they can make their own informed decisions. My initial experience with Dr Gould's office was positive: the receptionist was very friendly and informative, but sadly the appointment with the doctor was incredibly disappointing. Dr. Gould was abrupt, rude & condescending. He made a quick initial diagnosis without fully listening to my concerns and without understanding the issues. He made an off-the-cuff, uninformed diagnosis without all the pertinent facts and then made assumptions about what I, as a patient, would do to follow up on his weirdly incomplete leaps of logic. Seriously, I believe there may be something dangerously amiss with the mental character of this individual. He is abnormally reactive to say nothing of being completely unprofessional. Can you say quack. I totally agree with the other negative reviews it is more than a coincidence that we all have had the same treatment. I went to Dr quack from a referral. What a huge waste of time and insurance benefits. First visit he was very interested in my condition-PHN- from shingles Second visit- horrible. In all fairness I was five minutes late..than had to take a call from my primary doctor, so by the time he saw me, he was very agitated and I explained why. He asked how I did with the medicine he prescribed, I said I did not care for it, he became more agitated because it did not work. I explained to him that I am doing ok with the medicine I was on, He said the only way to get relief is to cut my head off...yes he actually said that, than he proceeded to tell me out of the blue that he does not prescribed narcotics and - what I was taking gets heroin addicts high..WTF are you kidding me, yes he actually said that too. I asked what is that about. He totally went off. I swear on my life I never once asked nor had intentions of asking him for drugs. In fact I came to him hoping he could help me with the chronic pain with out any pain killers.This guy needs to retire where all the old frustrated out of date and under skilled doctor's go....where ever that is. I will tell every one I know to never go to this quack--quack. Dr Gould...Stop practicing because you don't have a clue what the hell you are doing, your rude,condesending,have no social skills, and no compasion.Maybe your the one that's nipping at the old medicine cabinete.
