I've moved away from the area so when I saw there was a Gabe's here in Beckley, I made sure to stop. And was surely let down. What happened? Gabe's was always a discount store when it all is said and done, but this location looks really run down. The feel was just dim and dingy and things felt super messy. It felt more like a Dollar Store (vibe wise) than anything else. I didn't think the items were that "cheap" in terms of pricing nor did I think the brands were anything that warranted that pricing either. It all was just sort of, "meh". I browsed around for a few minutes and left sadly with nothing but being let down. Maybe it was just this location? Maybe it's Gabe's but I left super bummed about my experience here.

I suppose that goes with the territory and there is admittedly a lot of crossover between the two, but for example some of my writings are very peaceful and I'm pretty sure you would never find them on sale here (if they were published and popular, lol). Nevertheless store owner was friendly and there is plenty on offer here for Christians. And you can also go and get a biscuit next door LOL. Just don't read the biscuit grease all over the Christian books. Muhammad wouldn't appreciate that. Neither would Buddha.

Some items are over priced and you could find cheaper at other retailers. I am most impressed with their furniture. You have to keep in mind the caliber of what you want. I usually get measured for bras every few years where my weight fluctuates. My mom is 68 and has never been measured. Actually, she's never been inside of a VS store. So, I told her to come with me. I bragged about how great service was and how she'll finally get a bra that she's comfortable in after all of these years. Boy, was I wrong. We, unfortunately, got the worst customer service employee EVER. When we arrived at the Crossroads Mall VS, there were two women folding. I asked if someone could measure my mom and it was her first time. There was an older, brunette lady who said she would. However, she acted like it was a bother. Having been measured numerous times, I knew what she was doing was incorrect. She told my mom she'd measure her right there in the middle of the store. So, my mom stood at the panties area and was measured with her sweater on. The lady didn't even ask my mom questions like what size she typically wears. She just gruffly said my mom is a 40 D. Then, she proceeded to say that they didn't have any 40 Ds in stock and went back to what she was doing previously - folding. My mom was pretty stunned where I had hyped up the experience. I was planning on buying some more bras, shorts, and jogging pants for myself but I was so disgusted by this older woman's attitude, that I told mom we'd go ahead and just leave. I tried to still be polite and 'thank' the woman, but she didn't even acknowledge me. It was the worst service I've ever encountered in a VS. I highly doubt I'll go back to this location. If this lady didn't want to deal with people, she sure picked the wrong job!!!

Not…read moreonly do you get to walk around and enjoy various local artists work, some artists who are actively working (we got to watch glass blowing), but the food was some of the best we had on our trip! My fiance got the Reuben sandwich and the peanut butter pie. Both were absolutely five star! The Reuben had plenty on it and was nicely balanced. The onion rings felt fresh and were dipped in a really delicious batter. As you can see, the peanut butter pie was huge, creamy, and really delicious with a good balance of cream cheese flavor. The chicken pot pie did not disappoint either! It was a bowl of the creamy chicken mixture with a ridiculous amount of actual chicken in it (both light and dark meat). It was topped by a layer of some flaky and delicious pastry. There was just enough of everything, though. It was a lot to eat, and I was unable to finish it all. The tomato cucumber salad was okay, I tend to not like my vegetables as marinated as they were, but it still had good taste. The biggest disappointment was the creme brulee. Don't get me wrong, it tasted amazing and came out perfectly bruleed! But it was the same price as the peanut butter pie, and was extremely misleading and how much was actually there. When looking at the dish it was served in, the entire bottom. Half of the dish was ceramic with a very narrow full to actually place anything in. In the end, I think I got about half the amount of creme that I expected. It did not feel like it was worth the money, so I would not recommend ordering it. That being said, we will definitely make a point of stopping here to eat on every trip in the future, though we might just both end up with peanut butter pie!!
