I was here shopping today with my sister, brother in law, mother and two year old daughter. My mother had my daughter by the toys while I was looking around. As I came back near my mom and daughter there was a dirty looking old man who smelled very strongly of alcohol talking to them, standing very close while my mother was very clearly looking uncomfortable. He ended up walking away so I continued to shop. Five minutes later I look up and this man is standing there 2 feet in front of my daughter smiling at her and licking his lips. I walked over and took my daughter from my mom and told her we needed to wait for him to go away for my daughter to continue looking at the toys. He followed us again to the section we had moved away from him to. So we went back to the toys. And he followed us again. Finally I decided to speak to an employee. Before I could even explain to her what was going on, she gave me a very nasty attitude and said "Maybe your two year old daughter shouldn't be around him then." This employee was JESSICA. My mother just said "Excuse me?" We were all pretty baffled that she was so rude and dismissive about how uncomfortable we were before even letting me explain the situation. Then she continued, "Some people have disabilities." I really wasn't looking for an argument so we just said we'd leave our things and leave the store. I understand if she couldn't ask the man to leave just because we were uncomfortable and being followed, but she could have at least offered to have an employee keep an eye on things in case the situation escalated. Instead she was very nasty and unkind. Shoppers beware, there's a weirdo lurking around this store and Jessica will be of absolutely no assistance to you. Keep your babies close. read more

I am not typically a thrift store shopper but with the growing trends and up cycle era I decided to give it a shot! I have been to 3 goodwill locations in the past 2 months and the Hobart one twice this month. It was by far the cleanest most organized of the 3 and even though I over heard donations had been low lately they had MANY nice items I was able to purchase and use! The Staff were present and friendly enough they all seemed busy putting new items on the racks or something like that. Prices were mediocre but not outrageous considering it is a business. I will definitely go back to Them in the future I give them an overall 8/10 because I wish they had a bigger selection in housewares and because No one is perfect and can improve something! read more

When dropping off items no one speaks, says hello, thank you,-- nothing. We'll start taking items for donation to other Goodwill stores where the staff isn't so rude. They treated us like we were a bother to them. read more

Insanely overpriced, dirty And unorganized. One of the best deals I came across was a ps2 body for 24.99.

They've raised prices again, and you can tell by their glassware aisle piled deep in chipped glass that they are trying to charge retail prices for. Might as well say you're used retail, or hoarders, if you don't want to actually sell anything. Then, instead of putting lower prices on and making some money for their 'charity', when the over priced stuff doesn't sell they throw it in the garbage. read more

I have no clue how one Goodwill can be better than another Goodwill.......second-hand shit is second-hand shit...... but let me tell ya.....THIS PLACE BLOWS!!! I have NEVER found a single thing of interest in this place. Unless you're looking for giant tacky hats to wear to church, or maybe some fresh new Cosby sweaters, don't waste your time at this place. I wish we could put ZERO stars because this place would earn it. It sucks. The things in the junk aisles are JUNK! Broken shit. Shit that doesn't have a use on the earth! Like, who even invented it! Clothes are priced at retail. I can get a shirt brand new at the price of a used Goodwill shirt. Selection is nothing. Clothes are from the 70s. It's crap!! Stick with Salvation Army!!! read more

I was shocked after I looked around this place which is saying something because I was already appalled after just stepping in the doors. I'm a regular thrift store shopper because I love cheap and every now and then you come across a gem. Not the case here. In this store I have found a lot of very valuble goodies! Worth your while if you know what is valuble on the internet auction sites. 1 thing I found brought in 500.00 for me, I paid 4.00 for it!!! Rock on Goodwill! read more

I agree with the other reviews posted here. I've watched this Good Will over the years and have seen on numerous occasions that a Good Will truck from Gary comes and gets stuff out of the drop off box. Maybe we should all go to the Gary one if we want to see the stuff from Hobart. I've given stuff many many times over 20 years and have never once seen it in the store. I've also seen larger items that are donated...like children's toys...just dumped in the back dumpster. Valpo and Portage are much much better. read more
