****AFTER FILING A COMPLAINT NOTHING WAS DONE SO I AM WARNING WOMEN TO NOT DONATE CLOTHING ON A…read moreWEEKEND WITHOUT SOMEONE WITH YOU THIS WASN'T JUST A RUDE ENCOUNTER IT WAS A FRIGHTING AGGRESSIVE INTERACTION PLEASE BE CAREFUL**** I am writing to formally report a serious incident that occurred while attempting to donate clothing at a Value Village donation centre in Calgary on 104-58th Ave SE on Sunday February 1/26. The circumstances of this interaction raise significant concerns regarding donor safety and staff conduct on your premises. During the donation process, an Asian male employee became confrontational and aggressive without provocation. He stated that my donation would not be accepted due to my "attitude," despite no inappropriate behavior on my part. The situation escalated rapidly. It is important to note that this was not the first instance in which this employee displayed rude and aggressive behavior. Prior to this incident, I had already observed and experienced unnecessarily hostile conduct from him, which made the escalation during this encounter particularly alarming. The employee removed my donated items from the donation bin and forcefully threw them back into the trunk of my vehicle. He then moved into my personal space in a manner that was physically intimidating. At that point, I felt unsafe remaining in the area. My elderly aunt was present and was visibly distressed by the employee's behavior. Given her age and vulnerability, the situation was particularly concerning. Out of concern for our safety, we immediately returned to our vehicle and left the property. This incident reflects a serious breakdown in appropriate workplace conduct and raises significant concerns regarding staff training, supervision, and enforcement of basic safety standards for members of the public. The behavior exhibited was not merely unprofessional; it was aggressive, intimidating, and created an environment in which I reasonably feared for my personal safety. Employees interacting with donors represent your organization and are entrusted with maintaining a safe and controlled public space. When that standard is not met--particularly through repeated hostile conduct--the risk to customers and donors becomes unacceptable. No individual should feel threatened, physically intimidated, or compelled to leave your property out of fear, especially during a routine and voluntary donation process. The presence of an elderly individual during this incident further heightened the seriousness of the situation. Vulnerable members of the public must be able to rely on the expectation that your premises are safe and that staff behavior will not place them at risk. I am requesting that this matter be reviewed at the corporate level and that appropriate steps be taken to ensure donor safety and prevent similar occurrences. I would appreciate written confirmation outlining how this concern has been addressed. Please contact me at .... should further information be required. I trust this matter will be handled with the seriousness it warrants. I look forward to your response within 10-14 business days.

I'm a huge proponent of volunteering. Whether it's a one-off event or a steady, long term…read morecommitment to a specific organization, I believe that volunteering in any capacity is a rewarding and enriching experience. However, I find that a lot of people approach it from the standpoint of "unpaid work"; simply building up your resume and accumulating hours towards a specific career path. I think that sometimes people forget that it is possible to gear your volunteer hours towards your own interests. There is nothing that says that you can't have a kick ass time while gaining some valuable and marketable experience. All you really have to do is find something that jives with your passions, and a great way to do that is by going to Volunteer Calgary. So far, my experience with Volunteer Calgary has been limited to their website, but that's due to the fact that I've never felt the need to contact their offices; they make finding volunteer opportunities in Calgary and area literally as easy as a click of the mouse. Simply hit the large "Volunteer Opportunities" button on their homepage, and you're connected to a database where you can search openings at specific organizations, by area of interest, or by type of organization. These searches can be further broken down by age group, location, and level of commitment, etc. It's a great way to get information about what's going on in your community, as well as to connect with specific activities that suit your needs and desires. Once you find a posting that speaks to you - and they say a lot - just apply to the particulars in the "Contact" section and wait for someone to get back to you; simple as that. And don't forget that that's only one facet of this nonprofit; Volunteer Calgary also runs a number of different programs and works in conjunction with a vast network of member organizations. Check them out for their resource library, and leadership opportunities too!

We were also given good instructions on how to best clean and care for them. Our only concern is that as lovely as our new silk carpets are, they are somewhat thinner than what we had expected, and not as plush as the wool ones we replaced.

Okay seriously... how much time have I spent on 17th Ave?!? Years? Decades? A quarter of a century?…read more And still, it wasn't until yesterday that I had ever stepped foot inside Indo-Designer Rugs. One question: WHHHYYY?!?!? What a cool store! I mean, don't get me wrong, it's not like I"m a rug collector or anything, but I can definitely appreciate a beautiful rug. And considering this place carries Nepalese rugs, Indian rugs, silk rugs, Persian rugs, Afghanee rugs, and the list goes on and on, even an amateur rug observer can see that this place is where it's at. Plus, as if that wasn't enough, they also carry artifacts, statues, room dividers, showpieces and interior decorations. This place is absolutely amazing. And it's HUUUUUGE. From the outside, yeah, it looks pretty big, but you walk in, and it goes back as far as the eye can see! It's amaaazing! I will however warn you ahead of time: It costs big money to have things like what they carry shipped to Canada. So yes, everything is pretty highly priced. But keep in mind that artifacts, showpieces and designer rugs are always pricey. And hey, they do have a very thorough clearance section, so if you're on the 'spend-less' regiment, then you can definitely peruse this section and the chances of you seeing something you like are very high. Indo-Designer Rugs makes me wish I had a big mansion to put all these amazing things in. Well, for now, I'll just have to stick to going there to look, but mark my words, as soon as I get my very first luxurious crib, It will be completely furnished courtesy of Indo-Designer Rugs. Lookin' forward to it!

It was stressful for me to get all the stock on time so I can only imagine the time crunch Katie was under as well. There were two mix-ups that was not the fault of Katie or Budget Promotions, but she dealt with the problem professionally and efficiently, and fixed it for me. She even dropped off an order to the campaign manager's house in order to help speed things along. The merchandise was perfect and looked just the way it was suppose to look. I would deal with Katie again in a heartbeat, and I plan to for future needs.
