A seriously dated stadium which has one more season in it before they move to Bramley-Moore. Would have been spot on during the seventies.

Still, this is a pretty darn impressive building, designed most thoroughly and actually one of the most eco-friendly ones you'll have the pleasure of visiting. Oh yes, this one's with the times. It's all about being green and watching your carbon footprint these days is it not, and this place has a conscience. Which is nice to know. On the waterfront of the River Mersey, you can't argue with its exceptional location and the whole BT thing is only part of it. The name stands for Arena and Convention Centre, and the Echo Arena forms part of this. It's actually one of the largest venues of its kind you'll find on these shores, and it has the utmost in technological wizardry at its forefront. Plus, that size. Well, we all find size impressive. I'm talking about BUILDINGS! If you do get the chance to catch something here, and I'm guessing that'll be a concert rather than a conference, do give it a go. It's mighty awe-inspiring and a great place to visit, plus you're still very central and the transport links are therefore rather sharp. Excellent.

Food prices were quite reasonable and the food I did buy was good. But by far the cloakroom was my best experience - excellent value service and the staff were the best in the building.

My feelings on the place are not nearly as warm as they once were as the venue now mainly plays host to Mixed Martial Arts fighting which to me is not really much of sport. Ex bouncers beating each other up in a cage is nothing like boxing but the times move on and this stuff is very popular. The place will still host the odd gig but the glory days of the venue are long gone.

Outside of the slums of LA, I've never in my life seen so many boarded-up houses and buildings and empty, grass-filled plots outside a cemetery as I've seen in Liverpool. Yet there's something about the dirty, unkempt streets that seems to pulse with energy. Not nearly as good as Brooklyn, but if you're in the UK, it's interesting to see. The Liverpool Olympia continues this theme and doesn't disappoint. It's over-the-top, Victoriana gingerbread soffit and fascia, and it's gorgeously gilt gold and white finishings are completely contrasted with burnt orange walls straight out of the bar from the beginning of Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. The floors are black, sticky and dirty, and the meandering, ten-minute walk to the bathrooms is filled with plastic-covered ancient sofas and chairs with cigarette burns and flower patterns your grandmother would covet. Everything about this place is sad, worn-down and creepy. The vibe would perfectly suit a Halloween haunted house, or a Madonna concert. Something nightmarish. The "food" offered was a metal stand the size of water closet consisting of mushy chips with curry sauce or "hot dogs" shaped like pigs intestines. There are loads of bars -- three just on the floor where we were standing, and at least one on each balcony level. The prices for drinks are ridiculous -- £3.50 for a can of beer in a plastic cup -- but the service is so bad there, the waitress just dump your beer straight into the cup, resulting in over half a cup of foam, and no top up. We saw The Specials there, and the concert was outstanding, despite the venue. For an even odder flavouring to the night, all of the bouncers were from Northern Ireland -- a privately hired-in company. OK. Two words that rhyme with Liverpool Olympia? Never again.

I needed to take an umbrella large enough to cover myself and powered wheelchair in torrential rain (for comfort and safety due to it being electric). Their answer - no. I needed to take water so I could take medication. Their answer - no (I spent £8 on tiny cans of water so I had enough to do this). There was just ONE accessible toilet (other was out of order). The queue in the interval was full of non-disabled people who openly said they were using it so they didn't have to bother queuing for the ladies. This meant the only 2 wheelchair users at the back of the queue didn't even use the toilet until the show started again after the interval. The seats have ok viewing, but it is hugely ruined by teams of security marching past like prison guards in gangs constantly brushing past you. Very intimidating and unpleasant. When people got out their phone (even to check the time) staff hit/banged them on their heads to stop! Food - it says there will be food served. There were a couple of bars of nestle chocolate (£2.50 a bar!), and munchies, and mint aero balls. If you can't eat nestle - you can't eat anything. The whole ordeal was horrible. I tried to ring numerous times for reasonable adjustments and the phones were off. I contacted the box office via email and they were unhelpful throughout, refusing to make any reasonable adjustments and saying the security might make reasonable adjustments for your disability and safety - but they might not, and if not you will be sent away. The whole thing was AWFUL. Worse experience I have ever had at a venue. They openly breach the Equality Act and don't care at all. I tried to complain and they didn't care - and reaffirmed they don't make reasonable adjustments for disabled people (and if they do this will only be done on arrival at the securities discretion - and they might say no). 0/10.

It was a low key affair, both sides put up a fight, but the Lady Devils triumphed despite the second half attempts of the Lady Reds. The match was good. The staff and fans were super friendly. The concessions offered burgers, dogs, soft and hot drinks during the game. They must not believe in piping hot, because the hottest I could get the coffee was warm. That said, the bathrooms were clean, and the game. Traffic in and out was tight considering this was a local and smaller game, but our group was able to mount our buses without issue at the opposite end of the stadium. Good times. We'll get 'em next time Lady Reds.

First-Hand Experience: More info about my personal experience at this stadium - Most Liverpool fans are also to some degree Tranmere fans. I'm an enormous LFC fan so I also love Tranmere. I've been to Prenton Park 4 times in total to see games, and a few more just as a tourist. Most of my visits were when I was younger, and Tranmere were in their heyday with John Aldridge and such. The most recent trip for a match was 2007. Prenton is as loud and intense and amazing as it ever was. It's a truly fantastic lower tier ground. You can't get a much louder or more intense in the lower leagues than this, and the stadium is much bigger than you'd think, as well. It's "the team" of The Wirral really, which is sort of like if Brooklyn had its own NFL team or something. For the Americans reading. I can't wait to come back and see another game at Prenton soon. I've been to most UK & US stadiums, due to lifelong obsessions with travel, sport & especially footy (soccer to Americans). Born & raised in England, I followed Oxford United (hometown team) to stadia all over the country at away games, and later Liverpool (fave team) around. Every stadium review - like all my reviews - are from first-hand personal experience, usually from several visits. In 2011, I was on music tour in the UK, and visited most stadiums for fun in my spare time. As recently as Fall 2014, when I was "stuck" in UK for 3 months, I went to hundreds yet again while travelling. I have pictures of me at most, which I'll post later. Also, when back in UK I'll take more pix, and add more stadia! *** return to regular review *** It's a historic, electric and amazing ground in the heart of a neighborhood in Birkenhead, and it's like a mini version of Goodison or Anfield in some ways. The passion here reaches fever pitch and it's really sad to have lost this team from the league proper, and hopefully they'll be back soon. If they still had Aldridge things would be different. Of course, Tranmere Rovers play here. Two of the stands are enormous... if they ever get back up near the Prem, hopefully they can rebuild the smaller stands to match the rest and have a super-stadium. It's going to be the best stadium in the non leagues, easily. Also, Liverpool FC Reserves play here, which just makes it more amazing.

The stewards here also seem to be the rudest I've experienced, not only blocking my view with no apology but stopping fans from getting to the barriers meaning they can't get close to the players after the game (no other stadium does this) A stadium which even after a win can bring disappointment and for me Everton's new stadium can't come soon enough.

Not really... I'm a massive Liverpool fan, so I'm supposed to hate Everton... but I don't. I think they're one of the best clubs in the whole world! First-Hand Experience: I've seen Everton play live - in person - too many times, I respect them, but Liverpool are twice as good. You can't get much more first hand than watching Everton play at Goodison (and Anfield). They're older than Liverpool, and nowhere near as successful, but they live just down the road from us, right across the park, and we enjoy the "friendly derby" with them. Their stadium is lovely (just like Anfield) and even though they play in ugly blue and dislike LFC, I still like them. They're like our angry little cute brother. Formed in 1878, they had David Moyes as manager for ages (and won nothing) and now have Martinez (much more fun to watch). They are known as the Toffees because they are all a bit fat. They have been champions of England 9 times (I got shot 9 times - 50 Cent), which is half as many times as their city rivals but still more than almost any other team. The last time was in 1987 (three years before Liverpool's last title). Five of the titles were before WWII, since then the other three are 63, 70 and 85. They were runners up 6 times, but only once after the first world war which was 86, behind Liverpool. They won the FA Cup 5 times... 06, 33, 66, 84 and 1995, their most recent trophy. They have been League Cup runners up twice. Amazingly, they won the Cup Winners Cup in Europe in 1985. They are one of very few English teams to win a European trophy. And as for a little banter, I will echo what Jasper said: "They used to have a chubby lad named Wayne who would kick about down here but he has since moved on to a career in fondling yer nan. Gone are the glory days of Danny Cadamarteri and Francis Jeffers, but this is still a good place to get some chips if you can manage to ignore all the tripe on the pitch."
