Still, this is a pretty darn impressive building, designed most thoroughly and actually one of the most eco-friendly ones you'll have the pleasure of visiting. Oh yes, this one's with the times. It's all about being green and watching your carbon footprint these days is it not, and this place has a conscience. Which is nice to know. On the waterfront of the River Mersey, you can't argue with its exceptional location and the whole BT thing is only part of it. The name stands for Arena and Convention Centre, and the Echo Arena forms part of this. It's actually one of the largest venues of its kind you'll find on these shores, and it has the utmost in technological wizardry at its forefront. Plus, that size. Well, we all find size impressive. I'm talking about BUILDINGS! If you do get the chance to catch something here, and I'm guessing that'll be a concert rather than a conference, do give it a go. It's mighty awe-inspiring and a great place to visit, plus you're still very central and the transport links are therefore rather sharp. Excellent.

I needed to take an umbrella large enough to cover myself and powered wheelchair in torrential rain (for comfort and safety due to it being electric). Their answer - no. I needed to take water so I could take medication. Their answer - no (I spent £8 on tiny cans of water so I had enough to do this). There was just ONE accessible toilet (other was out of order). The queue in the interval was full of non-disabled people who openly said they were using it so they didn't have to bother queuing for the ladies. This meant the only 2 wheelchair users at the back of the queue didn't even use the toilet until the show started again after the interval. The seats have ok viewing, but it is hugely ruined by teams of security marching past like prison guards in gangs constantly brushing past you. Very intimidating and unpleasant. When people got out their phone (even to check the time) staff hit/banged them on their heads to stop! Food - it says there will be food served. There were a couple of bars of nestle chocolate (£2.50 a bar!), and munchies, and mint aero balls. If you can't eat nestle - you can't eat anything. The whole ordeal was horrible. I tried to ring numerous times for reasonable adjustments and the phones were off. I contacted the box office via email and they were unhelpful throughout, refusing to make any reasonable adjustments and saying the security might make reasonable adjustments for your disability and safety - but they might not, and if not you will be sent away. The whole thing was AWFUL. Worse experience I have ever had at a venue. They openly breach the Equality Act and don't care at all. I tried to complain and they didn't care - and reaffirmed they don't make reasonable adjustments for disabled people (and if they do this will only be done on arrival at the securities discretion - and they might say no). 0/10.

I used to live close to here, about a 30 min drive, and would come down just for the amazing atmosphere and intensity here. The best, outside the Prem, perhaps. Also, when back in UK I'll take more pix, and add more stadia! *** return to regular review *** The largest stadium in North Wales, the 5th largest in Wales, with a capacity of 15k (10k sometimes), it opened all the way back in 1807, I mean this place is steeped in history and has an intense atmosphere, too. They even name their big stand "The Kop" after Anfield's stand. They once had 35k people show up to watch them face Manchester United. This all leads up to one thing... such a grand stadium, even for a non league team, and they are the pride of the conference and destined to get back in the football league someday. Add to the fact that it's a supporter owned team (Wrexham AFC) and it's 5 stars across the board for these Welsh wonders.

It's one of the best stadiums in the country, it's got an intense, rabid atmosphere, it's in a poor area and still represents the common people that have been coming here for, now, centuries. Absolutely fantastic place to play and watch football. The fact that it's just across the park from Liverpool's Anfield just makes it more fun. These rivals are literally next door neighbours. The stadium can hold 40k and was built for football. It opened in 1892 and Everton have played here ever since. A FA Cup Final and several 1966 World Cup Games were held here. First-Hand Experience: I saw them play at their new stadium not long after it first opened, and I've been back as a tourist a couple of times. I've also seen them play away from home and their fans away are excellent, as are the club in general. I give them a 5 star rating for that and other things I will mention in the next paragraph. I will see them again soon since it's been so long. Their stadium, the Deva, now known as Exacta, holds over 5k people but is a bit soul-less and generic. However the team is supporter-owned and that is a really wonderful thing, and for that, the team gets 5 stars. It's been winning a lot of titles and soaring up through the divisions and long may it continue. I'm a big supporter of fan owned teams. The original team, Chester City, were founded in 1885 and they are missed, but their spirit lives on in this fan-owned team. Even if the supporters do all love Chesthair, they're still cool.

But - this is real football! If you can't afford to attend Utd or City each week and want to enjoy the pints in the pub beforehand, the banter on the terrace and the fact that you can meet and chat to the players before and after the game, then Edgeley Park is the place to be each Saturday. County are now in the Conference North, playing teams that get around 10-20% of the 4000 a week attendance we get, so the 2013-2014 season could be a good place to start for anyone up for a bit of glory hunting At £15 to get in and a little over £3 a pint (with local brewery Robinsons well stocked - just make sure you sit in the Cheadle End) it's a cost effective place to enjoy a few hours each week. The pies aren't half bad as well, as everyone who I meet for the first time tells me once I say I'm a County fan - just ask the Geordies I know who attend about 4 times a year and can't wait for their lunch time treat at half time!

Outside of the slums of LA, I've never in my life seen so many boarded-up houses and buildings and empty, grass-filled plots outside a cemetery as I've seen in Liverpool. Yet there's something about the dirty, unkempt streets that seems to pulse with energy. Not nearly as good as Brooklyn, but if you're in the UK, it's interesting to see. The Liverpool Olympia continues this theme and doesn't disappoint. It's over-the-top, Victoriana gingerbread soffit and fascia, and it's gorgeously gilt gold and white finishings are completely contrasted with burnt orange walls straight out of the bar from the beginning of Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. The floors are black, sticky and dirty, and the meandering, ten-minute walk to the bathrooms is filled with plastic-covered ancient sofas and chairs with cigarette burns and flower patterns your grandmother would covet. Everything about this place is sad, worn-down and creepy. The vibe would perfectly suit a Halloween haunted house, or a Madonna concert. Something nightmarish. The "food" offered was a metal stand the size of water closet consisting of mushy chips with curry sauce or "hot dogs" shaped like pigs intestines. There are loads of bars -- three just on the floor where we were standing, and at least one on each balcony level. The prices for drinks are ridiculous -- £3.50 for a can of beer in a plastic cup -- but the service is so bad there, the waitress just dump your beer straight into the cup, resulting in over half a cup of foam, and no top up. We saw The Specials there, and the concert was outstanding, despite the venue. For an even odder flavouring to the night, all of the bouncers were from Northern Ireland -- a privately hired-in company. OK. Two words that rhyme with Liverpool Olympia? Never again.
