On 2/17/2025 I took my Rogue Trailer over to Gonyea's to get my lights working. Now just to let you know I had them done about 2 Months ago at Mike's Trailer repair in Milwaukie cost $150.000. I went back there on 2/12/2025 he is no longer in business. The work Gonyea's had to do took all day, but I must say they are working correctly now. I've had my boat winterized, serviced, and repaired at Gonyea's for the last 4yrs. Dave is extremely knowledgeable, pays attention to detail, and charges fair prices for his work. I recently had an issue where my boat would intermittently lose power and die. It was smoking and running awful. I dropped the boat off yesterday to Dave at 9am and was back on the river by 4pm. After the repairs the boat runs great. I worked as an automotive mechanic for a number of years. I note this because working in the repair industry, you gain a very good understanding of how shops operate, and how to differentiate between good ones and bad ones. Gonyea's is a good honest shop. Dave has never tried to upsell me or recommend unnecessary repairs. For these reasons, I want to recognize Dave for the excellent and honest work he does. If you don't take your boat to Mr Gonyea you are missing out. Mr Gonyea is fair in price. What s more important he is a master of his craft and spends more time than he probably should coaching and teaching the boat owner on not only what is wrong , (which brought you to him) , but spends more time in coaching you how your particular motor, prop, etc works and tips on many preventative measures . Mr Gonyea rebuilt my motor in 2018. It runs like a new boat and I was able to have a very successful fishing season in 2019. Thank you Dave! I have been using Gonyea's Marine service for 1 year now for a 2006 aluminum boat with an 8.1l volvo/penta inboard/outboard engine drive setup. David is a superior mechanic who has kept a high hours boat in tip top condition at a fair price. Boats are not cheap, David is not cheap, but he is honest, fair and stands behind his work. GONYEA S MARINE SERVICE IS A SCAMMER and UNPROFESSIONAL, I would like to share my bad experience with this shop. My outboard Mercury 115 HP EFI 2013 has a stalling issue , David(owner) charged me 686.88 dollars for the first time to replace O ring on fuel pump , when I went home to test my boat , the boat engine had the same problem , I bring back my boat to the shop for THE SECOND TIME , David charged me again for 709.84 dollars for shift sensor, i went home I tested my boat again , the engine had the same issue , look like he did not do nothing on my boat , I bring my boat back to his shop for THE THIRD TIME , he told me my boat, needs to replace fuel pump unit for 1200 dollars ,a week later , he told me to come to his shop to pick up my boat , and he said my boat got fix and engine runs perfect now, I went home to test my boat , the engine ran for 1 min and stopped suddenly and unable to start the engine , I spent for 2596.73 dollars for NOTHING, and the engine status is worst than before FYI. in response to your answer, can you please show me all parts that you replaced on my boat , and the all papers that you ordered parts with dates, customer have the right to request ,show me your honesty David . read more

Gonyea's is the only place I would recommend for boat service in the greater Portland area. I know that when I am out on the water I can feel confident that the boat is going to run smooth as he has given it a complete look over and made sure everything is running as designed. This last visit I came in as the stereo was recently replaced and after doing so the boat would not fire. Of course when I took it back to the stereo shop in Sandy, OR the owner took no fault and said it was nothing he did. Dave was quick to point out that after the stereo was replaced they did not tighten the battery cable as it had a loose connection. It was good enough to turn on the stereo on but not the boat. Dave diagnosed and resolved in about 60 seconds. This is the shop to go to if you are in need. read more

Well what can I say about Dave other than he is a real piece of work. I scheduled an appointment to drop off my 89 Mastercraft Tristar today for some high rpm performance issues above 3000 rpm. I showed up to his shop and he walks out without a shirt on and says "What do you want?". I said I had an appointment, he told me he didn't have any today but would check (I just talked to him on the phone with him yesterday to confirm). While he was doing his research, his assistant (who was very nice most of the time) came out to look at my boat and start asking what the issues were. Once Dave was finished sorting out his appointment schedule, he came out and immediately said "What a piece of sh** this thing is. What do you want done to it?". I said "Well I'm not sure now after that kind of greeting but it is having high rpm issues like we talked about before, probably the carburetor but not sure." He says "Well I don't have to work on this thing at all but let me take a look." He looks inside the boat and says "What a piece of sh** this thing is. You need to f***ing take care of your g** d*** boat!" I was shocked, I couldn't believe I was being talked to like this without even really talking to him yet about anything. Even his assistant thought it was an ok boat when he first saw it, and there were much worse in his yard than mine for sure (there was even a crappy knockoff of my Mastercraft). I told him look at some of the boats in his yard, they are worse than mine and he then proceeded to get into my face about 3 inches away, swearing and telling me he was going to kick my a**. His assistant had to convince him to back up, telling him to observe at least 6 ft. This whole time I had not moved from the drivers side door, never approached him in a threatening manner (I didn't want to risk being accused of elderly abuse, dude was like twice my age and trying to flex lol). I'm sure he will make up all kinds of excuses like his other bad reviews (especially Google reviews, there are some doosies), but unless you want to take the chance of an old man trying to fight you and contract COVID over a boat that needs some vacuuming be my guest. I'm so grateful he showed me who he really was so I could keep my boat and take it somewhere that has professionals working (he can't even rebuild carbs, says he only puts in new ones so that tells you something). I have a small sailboat with a 1990 10hp outboard that was working fine at my house, but at the boat launch, after spending 2 hours raising the mast and prepping the boat, we launched it and and the motor would not run. I had an electrical problem in my 2359 Trophy that disabled my boat and I needed it back by the weekend... Dave made the requested repairs but also noted that the carburetor/choke was not adjusted properly which he fixed as well as cleaning the spark arrester. Each year Dave has always made sure there is no surprises to hold up our summer. This visit he winterized and checked out a drainage issue that came up in late summer. I meant to write this review last summer, but I got busy and never posted it, so I am happy to be finally giving this marine repair service the excellent review it deserves. In 2013, I purchased a pre-owned 2012 Mastercraft. I was thrilled to finally have my own boat, but since the first year of my ownership, it has been plagued with performance issues. I have taken my boat to multiple local shops for maintenance services and in hopes of diagnosing and eliminating the performance issues I had been dealing with. Though I got the basic services I asked for, the performance problems were never properly addressed. Last summer, a friend who has been a boat owner for decades recommended that I try Gonyea's Marine Service. I needed a basic summer service and thought it would be a perfect time to try out a new shop. When I dropped off my boat at Gonyea's for its summer service, I mentioned offhand the performance issues I had been having since I bought the boat. I don't know why I even said anything about my boat's issues because by this point, after having my boat at multiple shops with no resolution, I thought that these issues were just going to be ongoing annoyance I would have to deal with for the foreseeable future. When I came back to pick up my boat, I was met by the same mechanic that I dropped by boat off with, who I then learned was the owner, Dave. Expecting to get my boat back with just the summer service that I brought it in for, I was thrilled to learn that Dave had not only diagnosed the problem with my boat's performance, he had fixed it...at no charge! I went out on the water the next day and my boat ran better than it ever has. I was definitely a Gonyea's customer for life after that. I recently returned to Gonyea's for a winterization. I was a bit worried because I was getting it serviced after the first big freeze of the winter. Dave took the time to make certain that no damage had been done by the cold, winterized my boat, and got it fully prepared to withstand the cold temperatures of my garage throughout the rest of the winter. I searched around before deciding where to take my fathers outboard in for diagnostics. Gonyea's seemed like the best bet so I gave them a shot. I explained to them when I dropped it off that I already knew it had 1 dead cylinder and I only wanted them to tear it down and estimate a total repair, ie: no major work done without my approval. I got a call that same day with a very thorough explanation of what was wrong and a quote for the repairs. Unfortunately the cost to repair was equal to the value of the engine so I told them I would just come pick it up and pay them for the tear down. When I got there the owner I forget his name explained to me in great detail what exactly was wrong, why it happened, and even gave a basic explanation of how a 2 stroke motor works. He then showed me the damage, loose pistons, metal shavings etc before loading it up in my truck. Total cost was $150 for labor and diagnostics, and that is more than reasonable. I had been told by other shops that you could repair just 1 cylinder since the motor was balanced differently from a normal combustion engine. The owner explained visually and verbally why this was not true. I would recommend this company, for honest service and fair prices. read more

Took my boat here as a first time customer because of the close location to my home and noticed a few positive reviews online. Winterization of a boat price was posted on their website and I was quoted the same price. I asked for a quote before any additional work was to be done on some fiberglass repair and detailing. At that time I was quoted $2000.00 by the owner. I agreed and was told it would be ready in 2 weeks. Two weeks passes and I get a call with a list of work with prices and the price is now $3300 for the fiberglass repair and detailing. I decline this price and decide to get more quotes from others. They tell me they have already removed some striping and that's $375. Did not come through on time and I feel I was ripped off on the price. Probably see them on a news story of a shop taking advantage of customers soon in my opinion. I would warn all to not expect the same price as what you were quoted. Have heard a similar story from another customer that was in close to the same time as myself and they had a charge they did not expect of over $700 but that is there story to tell not mine. Can't rate them low enough. Honor your quotes and if the price is so far off from original bid don't start work before getting the ok. read more
