For such a small town, there's lots of history. Shipping was big in the area, until the railroads came along. Freighters actually loaded up in the area, and waterways led to the Red River, which led to New Orleans, which led to the ocean. Who would of thought you could take a ship from north Texas to the ocean. Amazing! This used to be the courthouse and the post office. There are 3 floors of amazing artifacts. Next door , the Railroad Society has a huge setup, but we didn't get to see it. Next time! Take the time to see the history of this area. You'll enjoy it!

This is a dying art. And once it's closed it's gone . You're never going to get another opportunity to see these animals so up close and personal. The elderly gramma didn't know how to run the CC machine so this was a cash only day. And they got 15 bucks from us, cuz I got 3 of their cute little shell creatures. They also have a pen with live deer if all those dead animals bring ya down. For $5 a head I can't not recommend this strange and unique experience.

Around you go to finish where you started. You could spend all day here learning about the history of Louisiana through the informative dioramas, the artifacts, and the historical paintings. It was an excellent opportunity to learn more about the state. The building is beautiful and the exhibits consists of a bunch of amazing dioramas among other things. We were really impressed and spent an ample amount of time viewing the exhibits. I had no idea that salt mining was a thing in Louisiana and enjoyed learning more about it.
