I bought a Groupon for a swing analysis (23$). The guys were cool (until the pushy sales pitch) and…read morethe high tech equipment was even cooler. The guys asked if I brought a zip/jump drive, (very important if you do not plan on signing up for lessons) I stated no because I was not instructed to do so ( I made a list as he spoke) the guys said its OK you can get it when you come back. That was strike one in my book since it was a 45 min drive from my house. We talked about my swing for a little bit and then the tides changed to a high pressure sale tactic. Buy a 16 week lesson right now, pay in full today for a small discount! I resisted the pitch as much as could w/o rudeness or anger. Even with all the pushyness i asked how much another hour analysis would be w/o a Groupon and I was told it was 50$ I sated I at least I wanted another hour to get my video and continue working on the loads of info. The formally cool guys said he wouldn't do another hour with me because he wouldn't make any money like that, so it was lessons (300$ minimum) or nothing. I am not a business wiz but this doesn't make since to me. I was moderately on the fence about the lessons and because they wouldn't let me come back for just another hour my mind was made up for me. They just gave up on at least another $50 and quite possibly a full lesson. I am sorry to rant on here and post a huge review but the whole process left a sour taste in my mouth and it wasn't smart on their end.

Ryan Patterson is the best golf instructor that I have ever had! What I really appreciated about Ryan is he first give you some basic swing instructions to let you work on and then once you have got those dialed in, he will help you fine tune other things to keep lowering your scores. Having the combo of multiple angles of video analysis and really great focused instruction has really improved my golf game. Outdoor weddings at the gazebo are lovely and so are the indoor weddings in the chapel. The bridal suite is spacious and has and area dedicated to hair and make-up. If I were a bride, I would just soak it all up - take breakfast and eat on the balcony outside of the bridal suite, in the morning and enjoy every moment of my time there. I haven't even talked about the food yet... Lets just say, AMAZING! I've had Chicken Marsala, Parmesan Crusted Tilapia, Sirloin Tips (my personal fave) and that's just the entrees - the mashed potatoes. The roasted red potatoes, the steamed broccoli, the glazed carrots... There is nothing that I've eaten there that has been less than fantastic. They had an appetizer item at the last wedding I shot there that was so good I looked it up to pass it along because I wasn't sure of the name - it was the Rosemary and Parmesan Shortbread Crackers with Roasted Cherry Tomatoes and Feta Cheese the crackers were heart shaped and looked awesome on the tray. The ambient light from the chandeliers at night is stunning in the reception area and the natural window light flooding the room during the day is a photographer's dream! If you are looking for a classy, elegant, charming chapel or a floral picturesque outdoor wedding this is definitely worth your time checking it out. Irene and her staff will take very good care of you :)

So, I'm not planning a wedding, or a wedding planning business, so I might not know the specifics…read moreof what a bride is looking for. But I have definitely been around my fair share of event spaces. And Hawthorne House seems like a good one. There is a nice little chapel. It's crisp and clean and bright. Also, I appreciate that it's a "chapel" but it's not remotely religious. It's basic, to be sure, but I think there's a lot to be said for simplicity. My only complaint was that the acoustics here are ROUGH. Plan on adding some sound absorbing features if you want people to actually be able to hear what's going on. OR, ban loud, noisy children from attending. Seriously, I couldn't hear a single word of the ceremony because of a few irritating babies. You cross a nice little bridge through some trees, and then you're at the reception venue. I was quite impressed. The aesthetics match the chapel in that it's simple and clean. There are quite a few windows and the lighting is fancy without being overly ornate. The bar is completely adequate, and has room for 8 taps of beer, if that's your thing. Around the front of the house is a wraparound porch that just felt great to be on, as if you were at the house of some wealthy relative. And the front lawn is expansive with a pretty nice little gazebo. Not sure what you'd do there, but I'm sure it would fulfill your gazebo needs. My only complaint about the reception hall itself was the limited number of bathrooms. I can see with a larger event how there'd be a line for the facilities. The staff was all friendly and helpful, an stayed out of your way. The food was provided by the venue, and it was alright. It wasn't all totally to my liking, but that could be the menu the couple selected, or the cooks could have had an off night. But they kept the buffets filled and hot and did a good job otherwise. I can't say that I was OMG blown away by Hawthorne House, but I was certainly impressed. Any bride-to-be that chose this venue would be making a wise decision.

I was interested in this gym, but found it really difficult to find details regarding membership…read morepricing. Upon calling them, I found that even though the individual I spoke with was very kind and knowledgeable, it took me asking three times for the pricing before they divulged the information. It was a bit frustrating to be given the sales pitch, even though that's the "correct" thing to do from a business perspective. I felt like it wasn't super respectful of my time. To help out everyone else, here's the information: (And I apologize, this is the pricing for first responders. Expect to pay more for general membership.) If you sign up for a 12-month contract, you will pay $73 per month. You must give a 30-day notice to cancel at the end of the contract if you do not want to renew. If you cancel your contract early, there is a cancellation fee of $150. If you sign up for a month-to-month contract, you will pay $89 per month. You must still give a 30-day notice to cancel, though at this point, it would be cheaper to just wait out an extra month and pay $89 rather than pay a cancellation fee of $150. If you want a day pass, the first one is free. Subsequently, each day pass is $20. A 3-day pass is $45. A week-long pass is $65. A month-long pass is $100 (no contract). They do not offer punch cards (example: 20 visits for $200). The family plan (12-month agreement) is: $69/person for a two-person family $58/person for a three-person family They say they are a 24-hour gym, so it's convenient for those that work late, but I find that the pricing is a bit steep when compared to places like Planet Fitness where it's $15/mo or $25/mo for two people on the black card. Even though a lot of PF gyms are no longer 24-hours, it just seems like the better option for those that are on a tighter budget.

Ok, so to call this a golf course is stretching the definition of course to the breaking point. I…read moretold my family, who live in Plattsburg, that it was like trying to golf in a pasture. They said, "Well, Jeffrey, that's because it was a pasture before they installed tee boxes and greens." That is incredibly accurate. A ton of blind shots, lots of going straight uphill to a green that couldn't be seen from the teebox, even though the hole is barely 300yds or maybe less. The course is laid out so poorly that you can't even tell which way the "fairway" goes without the "course book" which is, I kid you not, just a black and white print out on 8x11 paper. I didn't see any greenskeepers so I can't confirm or deny the other person's report of their attitude. I can say that the workers inside were pleasant enough and I didn't feel overcharged for anything except the "golf". I can't see any reason to play this course, unless you just live right next to it and don't really have any standards for golf courses. The staff inside are the only reason to give this course two stars. Without them, it's a one star all day. Now I really wish I had taken photos so I could show just what this "course" looks like.
