Membership is pricier than other places but the cleanliness is better than most. They have janitorial staff cleaning daily. Members know to wipe down the machines after ever use. The kids club staff also wipe down toys, activity saucers and walkers. Always plenty of parking in front of the building. The best part is that Golds is constantly renovating their building and adding better machines and fixing things that need to be fixed. Lots of work out classes to choose from which I have yet to take advantage of. Racket ball, boxing, cinema room, pool area and a steam room available. Golds also has showers with a sink and mirror area so you can freshen up after a good work out. They also have a point system called perkville that gives you 5 points at every check in. Points can add to get a free drink or various other goodies. read more

I'm a travel nurse, signed up for monthly membership with no contract commitment, used the gym for a month or two and flew back home out of state, gym is still charging me, even after specifically meeting with a gal to cancel my membership and then CONFIRM my membership is cancelled. I had a monthly membership that I had payed on consistently for over one year. My credit card got stolen, so the automatic payment didnt go through. They immediately sent me to collections for $300 which is absolutely absurd. When I approached the staff about it, they were borderline rude and unwilling to even talk to me- telling me to call corporate instead. Obviously corporate wouldn't speak to me either, so now I am forced to pay a ridiculous fee for my card getting stolen. They are stealing from people with this recent change in leadership. Disappointed with the unfriendly staff at this Golds Gym. Been a member for quite sometime and other-than Heidi Sanchez, I think the entire staff needs an adjustment. The place is under construction, the saunas are never working and the cleaning person is always cleaning during morning peak hours making things uncomfortable in the men's locker room. The staff is extremely Rude and usually always have attitude, for goodness sake...you work at a Gym. Staff is always hanging around the counter like it's a social gathering instead of a friendly business environment. I've been a Golds member for about 5 years. My job requires me to travel weekly which is why I chose Golds. Today I tried checking in at the Harlingen Tx location and was told I couldn't workout unless I purchased a $10 pass. What kind of customer service is this? The gym was practically empty and I was being denied a workout! This is no way to treat customers. I could have been given a free pass, but no...DENIED. Unbelievable. read more

I go to this gym two or three times a week to use the swim spa. I had originally gotten this gym fee included with my insurance, however last year changed insurance and had to pay a yearly fee. It was a reasonable fee and insurance will reimburse me $100 so not bad. I just use the swim spa since I am a senior female and like it for arthritis in knee help. I always feel so refreshed to get in the "hot" hot tub then relax in the bigger swim spa for exercises. They just recently remodeled this whole gym and it is so clean and neat I really enjoy it. Smells good and the water is always clean. Maybe one day I will use the other exercise equipment but for now me at 76 I just love to spend time in the water doing my exercises. The employees are very nice and kind also. Even used the upright tanning booth one time, and will do so again later in year. Thanks for a great gym, love it! read more

Let me start with the positive. Nice facility, convenient location, and offers lots of options for a relatively small facility. The negative. Expensive and false advertisers. Have considered joining before, but was hesitant to sign on for such a long contract, minimum of 1 year, at such a high rate. $50 for one person, an extra $30 for an additional spouse. After taxes and daycare I was looking at spending about $100 a month on top of $100 per person sign on fee. They'll try to act like they're doing you a favor by waiving 1 of the enrollment fees, but this is not guaranteed. Total price: $1300 - $1400 a year for 2 people. So you can imagine my excitement whenever I received a letter in the mail saying that they were offering their facilities for $30 a month per person with no contract, with no FinePrint on the ad. I went in to explore this excellent offer looking forward to the idea of not being locked into a minimum 1 year commitment. After sitting down with the gym personnel I was told by the staff member, "I really hate this ad. What it doesn't tell you is that it is $300 per person enrollment fee in order to receive this deal." I studied the ad in confusion as there was no fine print that mentioned anything about $300 enrollment fee. Why would the enrollment fee suddenly increase by 300%? Would I be using 300% more facility than a normal patron? When I questioned her about the legitimacy of the ad, her response was "I guess it's just something that they try to do to get people in here". So I did the math, $30 per person comes out the $60 a month plus daycare and taxes equals about $80 a month. Factor in $300 per person for enrollment fees that brings you to a whopping $1560 a year. What a special! You're telling me that with this convenient offer I can pay $200 to $300 more than I would have the last time I was here. No thanks. read more

I am extremely disappointed in the policies Golds Gym has in place for traveling customers. Since this is a franchise, if you are not a member in South Texas, you only get 14 days at this location a year. For example, let's say I have to come take care of my parents who live here for a month. After two weeks of going to the gym, my pass is invalid and I can't use my biweekly fees to go here anymore. However when I signed up, one of the value added benefits of signing up was being able to go any golds gym internationally INCLUDED. Not with 14 days of limitations. I swear if I get a call asking to sign up for this location, I might lose it. The staff was friendly however and diffused me as an upset customer terrifically. read more

VERY Disappointing. Going to new gym on Ed Carey as soon as it opens. These people do NOT fix anything on a timely basis..its been months that same things have been messed up and nothing gets done..they usually erase whatever you write on the message board but don't fix the problem. The tv's that we cannot control are set on sports stations always...a bit sexist, I would say. The women's area is minimally set..no tv's or fans on the treadmills in there. It really feels like the males are dominating there...to put it nicely. read more

WOW...this place is freaking awesome! I am not really into big box gyms, but this place was very well equipped. Spinning, Zumba, and Weight Training group classes were all professionally taught with expertise and fun. I really enjoyed my time at this gym while on a work detail. The staff were friendly, and helpful. The juice bar contained protein shakes for purchase. The separate room for women was pretty cool. They were always cleaning the machines, and never saw a broke machine either. This gym was really clean, with staff promptly cleaning, sweeping, mopping. read more

I enjoy my time at Gold's. I avoid the busy hours (between 5-7 on weekdays) because it can get pretty loud and crowded but what gym doesnt?

Good gym if they would just keep stuff repaired it takes weeks to get something repaired if it breaks.

The gym in Harlingen Tx the steam room is never working they say part is on order it's been a month when asked when will be fixed was told they don't know when part will be in .... the showers need to be cleaned more often dirty. We pay a maintenance fee for all this please clean more often read more

Staff is indifferent unless they are pushing to sign you up. Staff support and guidance with equipment is nonexistent, unless, of course, you pay for a personal trainer. I would recommend the Harlingen Gold Gym. read more

Visited this gym on a Saturday a few months ago, while passing through town.Considered membership for return trips, but gym personnel seemed unfriendly, weren't paying attention when asking them questions about gym, and where restroom was. Seemed unhappy and busy as if I was interrupting their quiet time. Toured gym alone, Equipment was overcrowding the main floor making it look cluttered. Appearance seemed lacking the feel and look of my Gold's Gym back home. Exercise room had ruts in it, and was overcrowded with equipment, mats and steps.Everything smelled bad in that room as if never cleaned. Noticed treadmill belts seemed old, with black material peeling up on edges. Overall appearance of gym was not very clean, and had some funny smells. read more

Fairly nice facility but staff/management are below average. 1.) Morning staff is shitty- the front desk guy is always in a bad mood and has zero energy - if you ask him something he has to take off his headphones and usually makes a face or makes it seem like you've bothered him. 2.) Trainers walk around like they're a gift to the fitness industry which is ironic since they female trainers aren't very fit and there is only one male trainer that I have seen that is fit. There is little to no interaction with customers unless they're a friend of theirs. I understand the trainers are there to make money but when they're on the floor they should have energy and be motivating. My wife and I have seen on several occasions trainers watch someone do an exercise with bad form and don't even go give pointers or tips. 3.) Equipment takes a long time to get fixed. Same goes with the steam room and sauna. I mean, we all pay this so called "enhancement" fee, yet, cardio equipment is still using the old iphone cable and nothing ever gets enhanced. 4.) I've talked to the gm a handful of times - usually when there is an issue with equipment or steam room/ sauna update - he acknowledges the issue but with an "yea whatever" attitude - I mean, the guy seems like a nice guy but every time I've gone to talk to him he's playing with his phone or just sitting down instead of involved in operations - but I've noticed when it's a female or even when my wife informed him of a machine he gave his full attention. When I've just mentioned something to the staff up in the front desk, they completely bash the general manager and it is apparent they have no respect or care little for him - which filters down to the attitude of the staff. There is only one employee I have seen there that always has energy and always says greets us with a smile no matter if he is working or doing his workout - the sales guy with the short spikey hair - if you had more employees and management with that kind of energy and attitude you'd have a top notch gym. There are other gyms in Harlingen - our contracts are up soon so we will be changing afterwards. read more
