I had to cancel my membership because Gold's Gym tried to charge me a $50 fee claiming I allowed someone to enter with my digital key tag. The camera shows me scanning my card while a woman I don't even know opened the door before I did. They said that meant I allowed her to enter using my pass. What exactly was I supposed to do--stop a grown adult and tell her to scan her own card? I don't know this person and can't control what someone else does at the door. I called and spoke with the GM, Nicholas, who said he would look into it, but I never heard back from him. I ended up having to dispute the charge with my bank to get my money back. Now they're trying to charge me $50 plus a $25 return item fee, for a total of $75. I have never missed a payment since opening my membership in 2023. It appears the app is finally working properly. No more scan cards so you'll need to be there when staff is working to check in if you don't use a smart phone. Registered again and found out it's a lifetime membership so I didn't need to. Helped someone else register and it was a quick process. Friendly and helpful staff. I wish the sign up system was a bit more streamlined. I don't like using the sign pens and pads because they aren't regularly cleaned. Plenty of parking and easy to maneuver inside. read more

So this one's a tossup between 3.5 and 4 stars. Upfront, it's a good gym, BUT IMO, that's not good enough for a Gold's Gym. Everything seems to be modern and when equipment is broken, they have a system in place to submit a ticket for work. My main critique is, I don't like walking in and seeing the front desk staff buried in their phones and generally inattentive, standing at the front desk, it's a bad look anywhere, but certainly at Gold's. I feel like that kind of degrades the experience, it feels generic here at that point, especially upon a guest's first impression. That was my initial experience today but I'd be remiss not to mention that once I made myself known to the person at the front desk, they ignored the phone and were attentive, no issue at all, they were pleasant and assisted with what I needed, hence the struggle to gives it a 3-star review here. Also, I can say plenty of good things about the other interactions I've had with the staff here, specifically the ones during the weekdays. You walk in, they're alert, ready to say "hi"/"good morning", etc., the energy is there for sure. Nothing feels boring and generic from the moment you walk in. Additionally, (Austin) the General Manager here is always very pleasant and seems to be a great representative for the location here in Burlington. read more

Beware and ask specific questions prior to renewing you membership. I have been a member over a year and loved it. Loved the early morning classes and the instructors. I renewed my membership stating that I was having trouble with the door key card for the early morning scheduled classes. It took me 5 trips including two conversations with the manager to finally be told that the gym was no longer open 24 hours unless you paid an additional $10 per month. If you check their website, Facebook page, and app it all states open 24 hours. No asterisk that it is with an additional charge. If you check their Google landing the hours are M 6-11, T 6-8, W 6-8, Th 6 midnight, F 6-8, Sat 8-4, S 10-2. This puts 10 scheduled classes a week unavailable unless you pay the extra $10. I was verbally told club hours different that anything I could find in writing. In addition I was told Silver Sneakers could only come at staffed hours which are on the app and different than any stated above. If the new management were just up front and told me of the changes I could have made my renewal decision not wasted five trips and not be writing this poor review. Please just clean up your communication and let you members know you when decide to change things or enforce rules that were in place that members were unaware of because it was not the practice of access given. I am disappointed because I liked the place, classes, friends attending the classes, the instructors but will not pay the extra $10 for the early classes starting two weeks after I signed by contract with the understanding those were part of the deal. read more

I joined Gold's Gym in January of 2024. My main interest was in attending their spin classes. The gym I attended before was reducing the number of classes offered. I went to visit Gold's on a trial basis first and was blown away by the friendliness and helpfulness of the instructors: they came and introduced themselves to me and asked me if I needed help with setting up my bike. The other club members were super friendly and inviting: I felt that I had found my tribe and it has been like this ever since. I am so glad I made the switch. Not only is the community loving and caring, I could spin bike every day if I wanted to. The offer is consistent, most often instructors can cover each others classes. This is one of the best gyms I have been to in a long time. Not only is the equipment top notch, the staff is very engaged and friendly. I travel every week for work which means I typically have to find a new gym depending on where I'm traveling. I have memberships with 6 other gym franchises and I've been to over 50 gyms across the US so far this year... in terms of equipment and the management running the gym, this is the best gym I've been too so far. Just awful. This place isn't even a Gold's Gym. It's technically called ABC Fitness. Someone private bought out the gym. This means that if you get a membership here, you are limited to just this gym. If you want to go to other Gold's Gym locations you'd have to get another membership. The cycling classes are nice, but the music choice is terrible. Your better off wearing earbuds the entire time. The customer service is awful. No one knows anything at this location. All the front desk reps tell you to e-mail, a rude woman named Kelli. She is more concerned about being respected than treating customers with respect. The e-mails she sent me were snarky and vague. We wound up bickering about me trying to freeze my account for a few months while I was out of the country. I was so upset by her, that I opted to terminate service with the company. The facility and most of the staff are friendly and courteous, with the exception of the racist guy at the front desk who didn't trust me to use the non-staffed hours door during my visit, I explained to him that sometimes I train at night or early am when I can't sleep. This is gym is not well kept and the worst Gold's facility that I've attended. Beware when you join, I have paid almost $400 to join the gym, you will get charged $120 for a maintenance fee 2 months in that they do not tell you about. When contacting Kelli with Customer Service, she made it clear she did not appreciate my Type A personality, which I apologized for not asking how her day was and commenting on the weather but I was not happy about the random $120 charge, they didn't tell me about, however I understand the point of the charge. All she has to do was apologize, acknowledge their miscommunication and give me $120. After all was said and done there was nothing they would do so instead they would rather lose 2 members of the gym. Starting to feel really jipped out of this Golds Membership ... They are no longer 24/7 which hurts me since I work late second shift. They should of never bought out The Rush if it wasn't to improve. Haven't saw new equipment in the longest time at this location (at least not enough to justify its fees). It's also now more crowded than before since now everyone has to come between the new hours. Gold's seem to become more and more greedy with how many people we can get to pay for additional services while offering less. The staff is what is helping to keep it a float. However I am starting to see a lot of new staff as if the older ones have moved on. Planet Fitness is going 24/7. I've been a member here for a few years now without complaint. The staff has always been friendly and the gym is kept in decent shape. The reason for the mediocre review is solely due to being informed by the Burlington staff that my membership is no longer valid at their location due to being franchised. I signed up with Golds for the ability to visit locations in whatever area I'm in on a daily basis. I work alot in Burlington, so now I've got to either sign up for a second membership or find a new gym altogether. I also never received any notification of the change. read more

I currently don't recommend this gym because of the hours. I joined Golds Gym when it was operating 24 hours and since then, they have changed the hours from 5am to 11PM. I typically work out in the mornings from 4:30am - 5:15am so this only gives me 15 minutes to get my workout done inside the gym. I have been told that the hours will change but they have not so far. If the hours do not change, I will have no choice but to cancel my membership and join SuperFit, which is a 24 hour gym. read more

You can read my review on Google. Straight forward and honest. I have seen this business operate as a customer and as an employee. I have seen this building as both the Rush and Gold's Gym. It has good and bad employees like anywhere, people who work out there are friendly for the most part, but definatley a few egos like any gym when it comes to employees or customers. Equipment is good, but much of it was inherited. Lots of money wasted on paint to rebrand everything. The main issue is the corporate structure and how there is a constant relay to Texas to Burlington, NC to Texas and back again. This really hinders customer service. A corporate machine indeed. Great gym, lots of equipment and very clean. Some equipment is older, but works well. This gym not only has a lap pool, basketball court, but it also has a menthol sauna. Most classes are included with the membership, and the trainers are very (sometimes overqualified) in comparison to other gyms. I dislike that the gym is no longer 24-hours, but I do like the friendliness of the staff and the daycare is a really cool offering that most gyms do not have. For the record, I do not work at this gym; I do think it is important to recognize hard work and to post something positive. I would give zero stars if it was an option. Tried to cancel my membership today. I was told that only the manager can do that but he was on a "conference call". At least five of my friends who have canceled their memberships all arrived at the exact moment the only person who could help them was on a "conference call". MAGIC! I told them I was willing to wait because this was my day off and I needed this taken care of. An hour later the manager is still on a conference call. A guy comes in and wants to sign up - the manager comes right out. I said something to the guy at the front desk he said he tried to get the manager to see me when he took that guy back but he had another, you guessed it! CONFERENCE CALL. They wanted me to leave and come back tomorrow. I told them I was off today and was willing to wait. The manager refused to see me. He said he would not meet with me today. I am sending a letter, registered mail, informing corporate that I am canceling my membership and then I am stopping payment. I'm not even under contract. I chose month to month so I could cancel at anytime. Worst customer service. DO NOT JOIN THIS HORRIBLE PLACE. read more

Unfortunately the billing department of the gym is horrible. I've received late fees months in a row because the associate put in the wrong expiration date for my card and didn't save it. This is at least the six month in a row I have been dealing with this issue. A general manager was supposed to take care of this matter but no one has gotten back to me. This gym was pretty average and didn't really maintain the standard you would expect from a Gold's. It has some nice amenities but the equipment is old and poorly maintained. Some members of the staff are courteous but others are not. I went there with a travel pass and the guys at the desk gave me a hard time about using it. I give this location 0 Stars. First of all I would like to mention that given my past experiences with this company, I never would have willingly joined. I joined a gym called the Rush, which I really enjoyed because if the excellent caring staff and clean facilities. Gold's took over and the decline was noticed immediately. The locker room had been dirty to the point where I would not use it. Creepy people hung out in the pool area. I bided my time until I could cancel without penalty. I called the local number and was told to call corporate where Cherry (Sherry?) took my information. She said they would have to charge me one more time, but when the charge came through the second time I called back to inquire, and Cherry denied that I had ever called. Naturally I am still looking for a confirmation number. So to get help I went last week in person and got help from Andrea to cancel there at the Burlington, NC location online. I do have this confirmation number. She said she would check to see if I could get a refund. Unfortunately, in the meantime she would have to charge me another $30.00 because I was 1 day too late in this cancellation. Imagine my surprise, when I not only received an answer from Andrea's communication with corporation, but I received an added $25.00 charge she can't account for. This past Thursday she very graciously she agreed to email corporate again And I should hear by Friday. Today is Tuesday, and I called just now to be told she was doing inventory and could not come to the phone. When I insisted she said I would have no refund. I am now $85.00 out. She said she sent me an email which I have yet to find. I called back to make certain she had the correct address. I also asked the contact information for the person in corporate, who evidently had no phone, and only communicates by email. How stupid do these people think I am? Little do they know how persistent I can be. read more
