After being a member at this gym for over 2 years, I have to call it quits. First, I have to say this gym is well equipped. It has a great selection of cardio, machines, and free weights. The locker room is decent and the sauna is generally clean and works. Now for the bad, no one racks or re-racks plates and weights. After you are done with plates or dumbbells, members leave them on the floor. The functional training area is littered with weights, while the "new" squat and calf rooms are both damaged after one week because the manager chooses plate loaded machines but purchased no racks, so plates are placed against the wall and damage them. It takes me an extra 10 mins a workout to find my weights, dumbbells or whatever I'm using that day to workout. Bye Golds read more

Cancellation process is incredibly difficult. Do not join this particular franchise. They lied and said that cancellations can only occur Monday through Friday even though they are a 24 hour 7 day a week operated gym. I was really excited to move back to Bowie and start going back to this location. They have been "under construction" for about 2-3 months now which has been a little frustrating, but completely understandable. The bigger issue is that the gym is always a mess, and not related to construction. Obviously it is the members making a mess and not cleaning up. My second issue is the morning group classes. They open the garage door and blast the music. It's so loud I can hear it clearly with my headphones in. An easy solution would just be to close the door or turn it down. I had high hopes for my experience at this gym. Initially, I observed that the front desk staff is generally friendly and the cleaning staff seems diligent about keeping the place clean. However, most of the cardio equipment is old and in need of repair or replacement. Two out of three of the urinals in the men's locker room have been out of service for several weeks. One machine has been partially disassembled (side guard left off) for weeks while still in service thereby exposing members and staff to moving parts which is an OSHA violation. I can't understand why gyms in predominantly black communities are always in such terrible condition when we pay the same dues as those in predominantly white neighborhoods. read more

This location has always lacked in quality. I recently noticed they made some changes to the space, and added more equipment. So I decided to give this location another shot. I should've just went to the Crofton location like I always do. The staff doesn't seem very enthusiastic, the Kids Club area is not inviting. I can't bring my kids here for another 2 hours. The sauna is in less than decent shape and is not that warm, there seems to be more old equipment than new, there's indoor equipment setup outside along the walkway of the shopping center and there are broken lockers in the men's locker room. This place could use a lot more work. I live very close to Fairwood and it's a shame that I still have to drive out of the county I reside in for things. For Bowie to be such a nice area, this location should be held to the same standard as Crofton and Ritchie Station. read more

Of the three in the 10 mile radius, this would be my not as favorite. Yet in still it is still a good place to go. I love that it is 24 hours and that they have a great variety of classes. The group leaders are awesome and really engaging. This location is waaay smaller than the others and can be a wee bit cramped. That and the women's only section is facing the front and you can see directly into the section which IMHO defeats the purpose. Also, there have been the words DEMO on this random wall since I've had a membership, my assumption is that things will be changing, but we all know what assumptions are. I've never had an issue as other reviewers have stated, the staff are friendly and helpful when needed. They are responsive when contacting them regarding concern this far. read more

This is the most unorganized gym I have ever been to. I had a membership back in 2020, it was close to the house and I could work out outside. Then the gym went through reconstruction, and another gym nearby had closed for a while so it became overcrowded. I canceled my membership it was just too much for me, too many people, and not enough equipment, classes, or space. After I sent my written cancellation letter to the gym and paid my remaining dues, they sent me a bill saying I owed an annual fee for the following year even though I closed the account. 5/31/18- In preparation for a girls trip, the crew decided to work out here on a random Thursday night. When I first walked in, I was surprised to find the gym so full despite the flood warnings that took over my cell & car. Several employees were at the front desk observing me while I explained that I'm a member of Gold's Ritchie Station, but wanted to work out there that particular night. One said you have to sign a waiver, another corrected her and said I didn't since I'm already a member of Golds. I finally scanned my membership card, paid the drop in fee, & started my workout. Fifteen minutes into my workout, I was paged to return to the front desk. A guy requested that I pay the drop in fee, the 2 ladies told him I already paid, I'm standing patiently & finally one of them tells me I'm good... Get your front desk operations together please. That confusion ate into my already limited time. It had been years since I worked out there. In comparison to the Ritchie Station location, it's really small & the energy is completely different. There was no eye candy or body builders present, just moms & dads burning a few calories before soccer practice. Definitely a less intimidating vibe than Ritchie Station. Also, this gym is sorely in need of renovations. Bland paint colors in larger group ex room, the floor in the Group Ex room has seen better days, and soiled carpets in the locker room. There was ample exercise equipment, but really no space to spread out. This location does offer classes that are not being offered at the Ritchie Station location and the showers were clean so there's a possibility I may return. read more

It's a shame that we paid maintenance for the up keep of this gym and machines that break th take forever to be repaired. Let's not mention the air handler is down again - seriously why!!! read more

I won't give a very detailed review here. I only come here for three things: sauna, HydroMassage chair and cardio because this location is closer to my house. I'd say this gym is fine for the non serious lifter. It provides equipment that most average Joe's will utilize. There are no specialty pieces here so don't ask. Sauna - it's been broken for the last two months so I can't even use it post cardio so it's a bit of an annoyance. HydroMassage - Great chairs that I also use at my main Golds location Cardio - there are plenty of cardio machines here and a wide variety. I personally like the cardio cinema so I can get lost in the chosen movie rather than focus on my pain (I have a lot of health problems). Unfortunately, many of the cardio cinema machines need a good cleaning and maybe some WD-40 - very squeaky and creaky. That's about it. read more

I sent them email to cancel the GYM membership on March 17TH 2020 and called the office to cancel, they ask me to go to the gym to cancel I went to gym but no body is there, then on April 3nd I FINALLY got an email reply. They said they freezed my account,then after few months in September, I got a letter form the collection, they did not cancel the membership and still charge me during the COIVD and send me to collection agency.In the meanwhile ,no communication at all ,I don't even know that they are reopened or will keep billing or not even ask me to pay, just straight to collection. read more

I am visiting from California. I got a 3 day guest pass from a staff member here yesterday after registering online. I returned today and attempted to workout again. The supervisor/manager informed me that the 3 day guest pass was for local residents only after her staff member approved it the previous day. She said they could discount the single day pass... but it's not about the money. It's about the principle, if your team member approves something like that, you have to honor it. That's the proper way to do business. This caused a major inconvenience to me today. I would just make sure everything is disclosed to you. This gym works for my needs just fine. A lot of additions with equipment which is nice. My current issue with this gym os how loud the music is. It's so loud that I can hear it through my ear buds with my music playing. It's obnoxious!!! The bathroom stays clean, and the floor and equipment as well. I went to this gym yesterday and noticed that the gym and equipment were very dirty and obviously hadn't been cleaned. I spoke to the worker at the front desk about it and she stated to me that they don't have staff that ever clean the equipment but they have cleaning stations for the members and that the members are responsible for cleaning the equipment. I find that very unsanitary and unsafe to be working out in that environment. The staff should be required to clean the equipment, I'm sure this violates a sanitation code. If this is not addressed the health department will be informed. read more

The gym itself seems fine but the manager Carrissa should not be working in customer service. I have never seen someone treat customers as rude as her and have SEVERAL personal negative complaints . Gold's Gym is failing by keeping someone so awful dealing with customers. The manager Anthony is quite rude. You either take the deal he is offering or he basically kicks you out the gym in 3 seconds. Got the 7 day VIP pass. Did my first workout and returned for a second within specified 7 days. He asks to talk to me at the counter and takes me to a sitting area. Offers me a deal which I say I'll think about. Then he throws my ID card across the table and tells me to leave. At some point I even thought that he was going to get physical and push me out the gym. Extremely rude. read more

These people are criminals. I had a medical emergency and could not work out for months. I continued to pay. I tried to cancel for months and talked with the Bowie Manager and was told I was good. Then talked to their collections person two months later and got confirmation I didn't owe anything else. Keep getting calls that I do owe I have a person's name and ID # that said I didn't owe any more. Today I get a call from another collections agency the amount is now almost triple the first request. Tried talking to the District Manager who was going to call me back, and did not. Be ware of these people and their loop holes to tried to bleed you dry of hard earned money read more

I actually just left this gym. I thought I would go late at night as to avoid a crowded gym. While the number of patrons were low maybe around 20 people working out, there were a good number of people not wearing masks while working out. There were two men running on the treadmill without masks and potentially contaminating the airspace. There was one staff member working however he could not be found for much of the time while I was at the gym and there was no one correcting the people not wearing masks. There are several signs throughout the gym requiring patrons to wear mask over mouth and face while working out. However during my quick one hour workout I counted at least six members who were walking around without masks. This is not safe! read more

I signed up here on Christmas Eve to start getting rid of my humongous gut. I got a great tour of the place and the offer of two free sessions with a personal trainer. I never did get with the personal trainer (my choice) but I've been going pretty regularly since I signed on. It's a newer gym (3 years old) so it has decent equipment and really nice facilities. I end up going there during the middle of the day so I never run into crowds but there is a lot of cardio and plenty of strength equipment. So, I'm guessing there is never a huge wait, if any, to get to the equipment. Locker rooms are nice and kept clean. I'm definitely glad I joined. read more

Customer service is 0, staff is extremely UNHELPFUL. There are far better options in for gyms in Bowie to even consider this place. They urge for you to sign up for the classes only to arrive and have 0 bikes left bc they do NOT monitor who should be in the class or not. It's a free for all and not worth anyone's money. During a pandemic this gym charged me a maintenance fee. They did not send out an email stating they would reopen and resume charges because they are doing shady business. After speaking with a few employees including the general manager I see they have no regard for people or their current situation. I was told by the first employee I spoke with that if I had called sooner and canceled then I wouldn't have been charged. How is anyone supposed to call sooner if there was no notification of a gym reopening. I've begged these people for a refund and they have not done so. This location does not have customers in mind at all. We are all trying to stay afloat and snatching $50 for a maintenance fee 4 days after reopening without a notice is bad business. read more

Be extremely careful everyone when it comes Gold's Gym or any gym doing this pandemic. Do not automatically assume they are not expecting payment from you, or that they are freezing your account. Do not believe anything that you're reading. I have read in places that Gold's Gym is freezing accounts, not charging during the months they are closed and could offer no services. That is not true, not only is Gold's Gym charging, but Gold's Gym has turned my name over to a collection agency saying that I did not pay them for April, May, June and July. And let me tell you how fast they are working, this collection letter is dated September 2, 2020. Married to my husband for 29 years, have never even been late on a payment and now I have a collection letter, this is ridiculous. Please be careful everyone. read more

If you're here to workout then it's a great gym, it has all the machines and equipment needed for a successful workout. It does get very packed after work (5-7pm) to the point where you'll have to workout in a corner or wait for a treadmill. So definitely plan accordingly, I like to go at 5am(if I can wake up) and it's usually pretty dead. If I miss the am workout then I usually have to wait until 7:30/8pm until it dies down. The bathrooms are ok, could use some upgrading in the locker room section, but it's a pretty small space. The staff are also just ok, the young staff are nice as they greet you or say bye, don't look for anything beyond that. I did have one interaction with who I believe was a manager, she had an attitude. But I try to limit my interactions as much as possible. The only front desk person who is great is a black man with glasses, not sure of his name, and the fitness trainers are also pleasant. Love that the gym is now 24/7, I go back and forth between Bowie and Crofton, and have always preferred Bowie despite the poor customer service. At the end of the day it's about the workout not the people. read more

Originally a member of another Gold's Gym, I found out that they didn't have complementary towel service. I know its small, but I thought that was kind of basic. I also realized the 3 different gyms I went to in varying states had basketball courts too, I soon was reminded that that was a luxury. On a positive note, they do have a hydro massage room and massage chair...that I didn't do, but it sounds nice. As for the layout, it has a feel of it being bigger than it is for only being one floor. When I saw in the group class room, it looked spacious. The associate that gave me the tour was really nice, helpful, and she answered my questions that I had. The trainers that I observed working with people, mostly appeared to be on the floor helping people. They appear to be knowledgeable about the weights and how to do exercises correctly. Sign up today. MEMBERSHIP FYI - if there are features that you don't want/need try to do some friendly negotiations to lower the price. Don't feel obligated to go with what they tell you right off the back. They want your business, make sure you're happy. read more

Gold's Gym makes it extremely easy to sign up, but extremely difficult to cancel your membership. You have to come into the facility that you signed up at Monday through Friday between 9am-7pm to fill out a freeze/cancellation request form or send a certified letter in the mail. Recently, they allowed me to cancel via email when I sent an email to Corporate and they forwarded it to the Fairwood General Manager in Bowie, MD I do not recommend that anyone should signup at the Fairwood location. The manager, Karissa Dodson is extremely rude, condescending and impersonal. If you want to join Gold's, then go to Crofton or the one on Richie Road. You can still use the Fairwood location, but you can avoid the direct interaction with Ms. Karissa Dodson. She is mean and a poor representative of a business in the Bowie Community. I attempted to cancel my membership in the summer of 2020. An assistant manager convinced me to put my account on hold and told me it would be on hold until February, 2021. When I stopped by the Gold's Gym location on Saturday, Jan 30, the person at the desk said that they do not allow cancellations on weekends. I told her that my job and my commute make it hard for me to come between the hours. I sent an email to Corporate and they forwarded my email to the Fairwood General Manager, Karissa Dodson. They cancelled my membership on February 7, but still billed me for the annual fee and the February 5 monthly fee. And, then I realized that I was also billed the monthly fee on January 5. Not only did the general manager refuse to consider returning some of the fees, she was extremely rude in the process. This place is way over packed. Nothing is clean, no paper towels, equipment is full of sweat. Its a nice set up with the renovation but the bathrooms are still as gross as before. Certain staff members are as pleasant. The other day was told "hurry the f up bro" when I was leaving. If you have medical issues this is not the safest place to be. I must echo the sentiments of many other reviews, when it comes to customer service at this gym, I am disappointingly underwhelmed... I was recently filmed without my consent while making use of this "private" facility by another gym member. When I complained to Tara the the general manager (in title only), she informed me that policy has recently changed. I asked her to provide me with a written copy of the company policy and she refused to do so for "legal reasons". Am I in the twilight zone? Don't laws and policies usually come in written format? I asked Tara for the name of an official to whom she reports. As in previous review(s), she provided no information at all. At this time I just want to be released from my contract with this company and compel fitness so I can find a gym where my likeness will not be subject to recording by anyone and everyone who knows how to operate a cell phone camera. I have had one of the worst customer service experiment with the General Manager at the Fairwood location. GM Karrisa neglected to provide exceptional service as expected! She talked in a tasteless manner, neglected to probe in order to gain agreement or understanding of my concern! As a new member haven't even stepped foot in the establishment. I am disgusted! I called to inquire on a fee that had been processed unknowingly in addition to more general questions to gain better understanding of this membership.. again as I am a NEW member.. I was told to refer to the policy that I agreeed to prior to processing payment. I asked repeatedly for her name and in which she grew frustrated. As a GM I would expect some sort of empathy, understanding and good Customer Service! I have spoke with another representative that spoke with grace and empathy.. The tone, the delivery of the GM manager is unacceptable for a service in which I am paying for! I will continue to share my thoughts on the Customer Service I experience with Golds Gyms, in hopes other paying members aren't treated the same!! Dear Upper Management (NOT Karissa); Gold's Gym Bowie, you have lost another member due to the customer service received from the person you gave the title of General Manager "Karissa". This person is clueless as to what is going on outside of her office. She shows no interest in the members. She will not come out of the office to talk to the customers if she can avoid it. I have spoken to "The General Manager" on the phone she was unprofessional and not helpful. I have complained about the cleanliness of the restrooms, the sauna and the theater room multiple times in the past. Nothing changed. I ignored my associates & friends when they all decided to leave Gold's Bowie. I thought I would give management a chance to turn things around. If it was not for Denise one of the few instructors I enjoyed. I would have paid my contract in full a long time ago. Please consider having Karissa trained in people skills (the ability to communicate effectively with people in a friendly way). Your title is not what makes you Karissa.
