I was on the fence about posting this, but I got a bad haircut a few weeks ago from Betsy. I was the first of the day, showed pics of a previous GOOD cut (at a now closed shop) and 10 mins later she was done. I didn't get a great look at it at the time. Later I saw the left side was off. I thought maybe after a day or 2 it will look more normal. It didn't. I wear hats a lot, but considered going back to fix it. Didn't know if going back to the same place to fix it was smart. I have a function in a couple of weeks that I'm going to get it cut again, so I didn't go back. $35 and I tipped $10. for a 10 minute bad cut. read more

My cousin went here for a much needed hair cut and beard shape up. They shaved his head and didn't really fade it at all, which is why I took off a star (he said that's what he asked for, but a slight fade should have been recommended). Asked the barber to leave 1.5-2inches of hair on the back of my head all the way down. I got a half inch buzz after repeatedly saying I don't want to go too short. Sideburns uneven and straight line across my forehead. Will not be going back. read more

This is a classic old fashioned men's barbershop that offers classic buzz cuts and trims along with straight razor shaves. You're not going to get any fancy modern haircut styles here and if you think you can walk in with a male pony tail and escape with it you would be very mistaken. You can have your choice of any 1950's style haircut you want here as long as its short and neat. Some of the barbers are getting really old and past their prime though so I'm very cautious about getting a shave here ever again! The last shave I got here the barber's hands were mighty shaky and he cut me more than I've ever been cut before during a barber's shave! Since that experience I've gotten all my shaves at Algie Hailey's on Metairie Road as I'm a big fan of not having my throat slashed open accidentally (or any other way). Thought I'd bop in for cut after not using them for 3 years. BIG MISTAKE. Sat there for 20 minutes with no one else waiting, only to be told there were 2 folks in front of me with appointments. WHY didn't they me as soon as I walked in that there were reservations in front of me? Wasted 20 minutes of my life because of their unprofessionalism/inattention. They LOST A CUSTOMER FOR LIFE. This is for the native nola yelpers.... all six. This is a man's barbershop. They have a shoeshine man on hand to shine your shoes. They will trim your eyebrows. There are recent issues of Sports Illustrated, GQ, and other manly magazines on hand. And they don't cut women's hair. Never a long wait for a cut. Some of the barbers are old as [expletive], but not so old as to cut off your ear or make you look stupider than you are before you walked into the door. Interestingly, they have one female barber (barberess?) on hand, but not always the same one. They will talk to you while they cut your hair, but only if you are into that type of thing. Yep, this is my kind of place. If you see getting your hair cut as a necessary evil, and want to get it done cheaply and quickly, you will like it too. Minus one star for the awkward price of a trim--15 bucks. If it was 13, I could pay 15 with an acceptable tip, but when it is 15 I will pay with a 20, and asking for change is too cheap, even for me. read more

I find the relentlessly positive reviews of Golden Shears bewildering. I've been to this place a dozen times or more, and it has really, deeply cratered. The simple fact is that the guys cutting hair are, for the most part, now far too old to do the job with any competence. I'm sorry for them, but this is a task that requires some fine motor skills--as well the more basic ability to lift one's forearms above the horizontal. The last three experiences I've had have been especially terrible. My haircut is as plain as ever--nothing difficult, I don't even care much about style. I just want it shorter. What have I ended up with? Giant, to the skin miscalculations with the clippers. Comically uneven lengths on the right and left sides of the head. Clumps of hair that were never cut at all. Etc. I genuinely feel bad for the old guys there. But the truth is, they just cannot do the job. It's true that there's a younger guy and a lady working on some days. If you must indulge your nostalgia (the only reason I can think of to willingly go there), try to get in with them. But if you're like me, and you can't handle the awkwardness of refusing the old guys when they have a free chair, you are in for a haircut that will make you regret your niceness. I wish them the best, but this is no longer the place for a reliable haircut. read more

Unfortunately, I didn't get a great haircut here. I wanted to like the place. I liked chatting with my barber and the no-frills atmosphere, but the haircut is the reason for being there. For one, my barber didn't use scissors at all. I wasn't getting a buzz. I'm usually asked whether I want clippers used at all, and I decline. He used clippers and a comb to cut my hair. The result was very uneven. I also got my neck shaved into my hairline a little. You can't hide the nervousness that comes when knowing you've shaved too far up the neck. The recovery was acceptable. I give two stars because this was my only experience with only one barber. It could be a great place like the other reviews say, but I'm not going to find out. read more

I can't comment on other barbers at this location but Cero gave me my worst haircut ever. Super nice guy but should not be cutting hair anymore. I left with uneven sides and he missed several patches which I had to point out to him. If you get your hair cut here make sure you don't let Cero cut it, but I will not be going back ever again. read more

NIce local barber. Seldom a wait over 10 minutes but can get very busy on Saturdays. The guys seem to only be able to do a classic guys cut - off the collar, over the ears and tapered. If your son wants the "Bieber" wait for the ladies. read more

16 dollars for a cut. Overpriced and they don't even do straight razor fades. This is hardly a barber shop. The staff is nice but they can't cut hair on the barber level. I've had some bad haircuts, but this was the worst by far. Inmates on death row probably receive better haircuts by more talented barbers. Liked the atmosphere and the barber was a nice guy, but the haircut was uneven, patchy, and made my hair look like dog poop. In fact it was so bad I had to go to another barber to fix the damage. Basic barber shop for no frills, no nonsense. Don't expect a hairstylist, flame-cut, froo-froo hairdo. Keep it simple for a good value. Good work and fair price. I usually get a buzz cut and beard trim and am consistently happy. This is my go-to place. This place is busy with a mainly local crowd. I've never gone here to get a broken bone fixed though. Been coming here since we moved to Nola last year. This is the second barbershop I've tried. I'm happy with the overall value of the place you can't beat 16 bucks for a cut. My one criticism is that the shop should be open later on weekdays otherwise I stand by my 4 of 5 stars read more
