Great store run by an even greater man. I can say with confidence that this is the establishment that I have been looking for! Great selection, well curated and truly good prices. Huge recommend! read more

I have gone to Golden Seashell twice now to repair a gold chain that I wear everyday. Due to the fact that I have always had pets, I tend to break my chains on a regular basis. Golden Seashell is located on the main drag of Newport in Ocean Beach a couple of blocks from the water. For that reason, parking can be a bit challenging, but it is also convenient to stop by on my way to pick up lunch or do something else at the beach. It appears to be a one-man shop where the owner does all of the repairs. Both times, drop off and pick up have been quick and easy. Both times, he has taken a quick look at my chain and given me the price and timeframe. Both times, he repaired the chain successfully. The price is reasonable in comparison with what I have paid in other places in the past. The only reason I can't give five stars is that the timeframe given is one to two weeks. This last time, he took just over a week. In other parts of town, I have had some places fix it within a day, some, even within an hour. I imagine he is probably busy with a lot of other repairs. However, to have someone fix my jewelry locally at a reasonable price is a pretty good deal, and I will be back to Golden Seashell. read more

Golden Seashell - This is where I get my jewelry fixed - Jewelry Near Me - San Diego, California

Service was prompt and polite but diagnosis was wrong. Asked to have a battery replaced and was told the movement was bad. So I shipped back to the manufacturer who said the battery was dead and replaced it but in the end, spent $36 in shipping charges to have a battery replaced. read more

I wanted to repurpose my engagement ring stone into a pendant. I've never had a custom piece created and the experience and result far exceeded my expectations! John and Scott were both great to work with. The process was highly collaborative, cost was transparent and reasonable, they were patient and ensured that our visions were aligned, showing me a mock up before producing it. We were able to use some gold of mine with special meaning as well as the diamond and the result is gorgeous. Modern and timeless. Highly recommend! read more

Excellent find with good repair service for your jewelry. The owner is professional but doesn't really engage in small talk. Also, there is a nice selection of jewelry for sale. We will continue to come back. read more

My grandma recently passed and I received her class ring. But it was too big and too small for my fingers. I've never had a ring resized and wanted to go somewhere I felt they would handle with care. When I brought it there John helped me size my finger and when the rings didn't feel just right offered a in between size. He gave me a lead time of about two weeks and it was done today, which was just one week. The ring fits perfectly and you can't tell it was resized, and it's been polished like new. This is an heirloom I am grateful for John turning it into a piece I can safely wear every day. read more

My husband needed new batteries on 2 watches and needed links removed from another. We were in and out within 10 minutes and the price was very fair. The store also has some fairly affordable jewelry in the cases that you can look at while you wait. Would recommend to others. read more

Brand new watch, needed adjustment to stainless steel band (length). Stubborn cotter pins. Could only remove one with my amateur (Amazon) watch tools. In fact, broke several heads on my tools trying. They were able to do the job in five minutes, walk-in job. Reasonable price. Thanks! read more

Golden Seashell - My ring after John tightened the prongs and polished it. It looks amazing. - Jewelry Near Me - San Diego, California

I went to have the watch battery changed on my late father's watch. Apparently, there was some complication because the repairman (who I believe is the owner) loudly announced that it was "horrendous watch" and that "he hoped he would never see it again" to everyone in the room. He went on to describe in detail why it was such a bad design. My son was with me and we were both shocked. I've had the battery changed on this watch twice before and never had a problem. This leads me to believe that the issue was one not of watch design, but the ability of the repairer. I was also disappointed to see that the back of the watch was not aligned correctly. It's incredible that he would make such disparaging remarks about someone's personal jewelry for all to hear. I chose this store because I like to support local business. However, he will definitely get his wish: he'll never see my father's watch or us again. read more

This jewelry shop has an amazing selection of jewelry. Half the store is silver gemstone jewelry and the other half is more expensive gold jewelry. The owner is so kind and patient and kind. This is one of my favorite shops in San Diego! I bought some amazing silver rings for a great price. I love coming here! read more

Sandwiched between tacky tourist shops, thrift stores and cheap clothing retailers, Golden Seashell is very easy to miss...but it really stands out as a unique and special shop that is a must visit when you're in OB. I found it on Yelp when i was looking for a jeweler who could change the batteries on multiple watches. I called around and this was the cheapest and had good Yelp reviews so I gave it a shot since I knew I would be in the area. I'm glad I discovered Golden Seashell! Not only did the owner change my batteries at an excellent price (two batteries cost $8 and another $6 -- whereas a Hillcrest shop quoted me $10.95 a piece and a North Park chain store would have been $8.95 each)....but the store is filled with treasures! There was a ton of unique jewelry with authentic stones and unique designs that I don't usually see in department stores or online, and they were all really well priced. Also, there is a huge collection of ancient coins, including from the Roman, Byzantine, Greek and Spanish empires that are an absolutely sight to see. They also have the legit "OB" logo in pendants in sterling silver or gold. I would definitely come back to buy gifts or a beautiful necklace for myself! read more

I had four watches that needed band adjustments and two that needed batteries. The owner stopped what he was doing and took care of all six on the spot. Since we had come from out of town this was very welcome. read more

Have taken several pieces of sterling silver here to get repaired. Turn around time is about a week and I was very happy with the results. Old fashioned and phenomenal! Straightforward, honest, and expert. I went in to have links removed from a watch. Will be back forever!

Owner is very polite. I stopped in to have some links removed from a watch I recently purchased and he had it taken care of very quickly!

Stumbled in on my stroll around the neighborhood just to see about getting a battery changed. Super nice and quick service. Took care of me in less than 5 minutes. Gave me a chance to look around and see all that they had. Cute vintage pieces well organized. Saw some pieces I liked and took mental notes to pass on for birthdays and such. Very nice and quiet shop with kind people. read more

Unfortunately Scott is not an honest jeweller. I had brought in some very old coins and he sold one for me but NEVER returned the 2 30+ others. I asked several times for them and he said he couldn't find them. Still waiting for him to find them 20 years later! I accidentally wrote a review blaming Gary Gilmore Goldsmiths which was across the street for which i humbly apologise. Wondering if you ever " found" my coins. They were in my family for years and Id like them returned! Tara Davis read more

This is a wonderful place to go if you need your jewelry cleaned, resized, or repaired. It's also a wonderful place to find some ready-made jewelry and for custom-made items as well. The owner - Scott - is a very affable, kind and talented jeweler. I trust ALL my jewelry to this store! They also carry an interesting array of clocks, trinkets, loose gems, and sometimes ornaments and small statuary. Give this place a try -- I'm sure you won't be disappointed! read more

We have used them as our jeweler for many years. My son had my DIL's engagement ring made here. Excellent craftsmanship and prices.

The guy is a total creep--Scott. He kept calling me by, "my lady." I had 3 watches that needed new batteries. He initially quoted me for $10 each on the phone. When I went to the store he just took the watches and had no communication with me. Then when the work was complete up-charged me $16 each. When I asked about it he was extremely rude. I just paid (because I wasn't going to sit there and argue with someone he behaves like this with clients) and will not be returning to this shop. read more

Since I've moved to Ocean Beach, I've had to hunt down all my new "go-to"s. Like my go-to bike shop (Bernie's), my go-to beer spot (Culture), and my go-to "I'm poor and hungry and want a beer but don't want to look at anyone or talk to anyone while shoving food in my face" restaurant (Thai Time). When my engagement ring got practically destroyed a couple months ago (don't stick your hand in a dog fight, friends), I had to find my go-to jeweler, and that's how I came across Golden Seashell. After giving me a quick, well-deserved "why did you stick your hand in a dog fight?!" admonishment, they were on their way fixing my beloved only-piece-of-jewelry. I expected a week or so to pass before getting it back, but it was back on my gnarled, dog-eaten hand in two days - on a SUNDAY, no less! The staff is friendly, incredibly fast, and the quality of work is impeccable. Glad to have found my go-to jeweler, and that it happens to be just a couple doors down from my go-to "sushi place that I only order wings at that also has $2.50 chardonnay" (The Joint). read more

I made an account specifically for this review. I've had my engagement ring made here a while back. I went in on a whim, looking at the cool Roman and Greek coins. When I offhand mentioned having a coin mounted as my engagement ring, Scott was all about it! Very courteous and knowledgeable, my ring was ready in about a week, as I recall. I had a sort of nebulous idea of what I wanted; plain, silver, interesting. I didn't want prongs to get snapped off or anything to be remotely breakable. When we came back in to pick it up, it was *exactly* what I was looking for. Don't get me wrong, they are certainly capable of creating delicate, intricate work, but seeing the simple elegance of my ring, I can honestly say Scott is a true master. read more

Excellent service and great prices. He'll work with you to make sure you get what you want and is honest about his skill level when he needs to outsource something to another jeweler. I'm skeptical about the experience reported by Magdalena R. because my experience with the owner is that he does quality work and genuinely likes his work. And I like that he calls me "M'Lady"! read more

This is long overdue. I went to Scott at the Golden Seashell over a year ago to copy a simple design I found for my engagement ring. He was kind and very accommodating. He gave me his honest opinion about the setting for the aquamarine I wanted to be set, and when my fiance proposed in November, it was even more beautiful than I had expected. Scott knows his stuff and is very talented! We are having our wedding rings made there as well - will be going to him with all of our jewelery needs!! read more

My go-to jewelry shop in OB, now that Gilmore is closed. I had my wedding ring re-sized here, and they did a great job. Have brought watches in to have the batteries replaced - yes, some of us still wear watches! The most recent one was a waterproof Ripcurl watch for surfing, and they even had the batteries on-hand, so could replace it while we waited for just about $10. They also have reasonably priced jewelry for sale. read more

A few months ago I took my new Seiko watch to get the bracelet sized here. I took it here because it was a holiday and it was one of the only jewelry stores open and was quoted the most reasonable price by phone. They did the job quickly, however even when it was being done I got the feeling they didn't know what they were doing. The bracelet was fine until I got home when it almost immediately came apart. With only minimal online search Apparently certain bracelets use a different than normal pinning system with pins-and-collars, and that they didn't put the collars back in to keep the sizing pin in place. Special equipment (like 15 bucks on amazon) is required to size the bracelet. I wish they would have told me they didn't know how to do it to start. After a few days I just removed the bracelet and put on a leather strap and the bracelet sits in a drawer in pieces currently. In the future I will buy the tools online and watch a youtube video rather than take it back here to get it fixed, or take it to somewhere that knows what they are doing. I am giving them 2 starts because they were cheap, quick, and open, all good things that for simple jobs would be fine. read more

I really want to write a good review. I really like the guy there. But***I can not. We got a ring there to serve as a engagement ring for now. It was simple and beautiful. The first one turned my finger green. My brother in law returned it for me...and another was made. The second one was crooked in several spots so that it was uncomfortable. Within two days it was very tarnished looking. I understand it is silver and not white gold. But I expected more then that. Hundred bucks flushed. But then again what do you expect for a hundred dollar ring? I hope it was just a fluke with me because i really do like the service and the shop. Just unhappy with the product. read more
