The main reason that I landed up here is because I had just moved and I was looking for a place that did some decent takeaway, and due to the lack of fish and chip shops around here (I suspect I have to go for a quick train ride to Thomastown if that is what I'm looking for). Okay, it isn't a dine-in restaurant but that doesn't matter because they also deliver. As well as the standard pizzas they also have a range of gormet offerings, including my favourite - Mongolian Lamb. In fact the pizzas were so good that my Dad ended up making himself a regular when he was up here.

Awesome pizza. Fresh food. You will never buy cheap pizza again…read more.. They don't really have the traditional pizza however they sure do put a good spin on the Hawaiian pizza. I like what Pizza Religion does. It manages to sit somewhere between fancy-pants (thin crust…read moreminimal topping) pizza and old skool (big stodgy base and a million toppings) pizza. There's interesting combinations (Proscuitto, Gorgonzola, Roasted Pear, Basil and Truffle Oil - yes!) but nothing too whacky or weird. There's Mount Zero olives and an Arancini special of the day to start. I mean, really, who doesn't love deep fried rice balls? The side salads are simple yet fresh and help to alleviate the guilt of double carb loading pizza after the rice balls. A tight little drinks list rounds everything off nicely. Fancy a decent glass of wine or a cider with your mid-week pizza? Then head on out to Pizza Religion's backyard and get stuck in to it.

When we got the urge for pizza, +39 came into mind. There were no reservations available online for the last minute decision so we decided to try to walk-in. It was 515pm when we showed up and they told us they would need the table back by 630pm. Not a problem I said and I was right. We were out of there by 545pm. But we didn't feel rushed at all! The food just came out so fast, hot and delicious. The tables are set up nicely, crammed in without feeling too crowded. I love the specials wall and watching the people in the back cook the pizzas. Service was really good, I'm not sure if it's because they wanted the table back or if it's because they're just good. I'm going to go with the latter because I saw good service with other tables as well. This meal felt really authentic. I've never been to Italy but I've tried a lot of Italy-Italian food and this place ranks pretty high up there. I forgot how much a cocktail with amaretto and lime is sooooooo good. I forgot how hot salami might be better than pepperoni. I forgot that arugula salad with balsamic glaze goes so well with red sauce pizza. Pro tip? Order the lasagna croquettes and keep the sugo for your pizza crust and some of that fresh grated parm for your pizza.

They got me through so many super-stoned and car crash-crazy drunken hungry nights. So much so that the distinguished Italian gent on the phone used to greet me with a "Hello, my friend," as soon as he heard my familiar voice. I felt like a pizza junkie after a while. Yes, it is THAT good. My friends and I often used to order their pizzas when our band was jamming. We were called In Excess, but then we heard some other good-looking bastid had already claimed that name as 'INXS'. To me, that's INKS! Still, nobody cared, apart from Godfathers Pizza. I dispute the "greasy" claim. To us, they were the perfect nexus between a traditional Italiano-style pizza and a deep pan Pizza Hut-style crust, with delicious toppings much better than the Hut's on top. All up, it's a 10 from me, and I'm sure my former rival, Mr Hutchence, would agree as well.

There are loads of pizza places in this neighbourhood but I reckon Godfather's is up there with the best of them. Fresh, thin crust, the right amount of topping and great ingredients. I waited less than 10 minutes for my pizza whilst observing the delivery guy coming and going with deliveries. At $15 for the family-sized pizza, I reckon it's pretty damned good value. It fed three drunk and hungry grown-ups who all felt sufficiently full afterwards.

Luccellino has a similar moto, everything is fresh and the topping structures are simple yet well balanced. This place is a definite finalist in my category of "superb pizza, delicious salads, white table clothes, intimate pre movie chats and great wine". This probably explains why the place was full of 'girls night out' tables of four when I ventured past. This would also have to be one of the cheaper restaurants (it's not a cafe) in Yarraville.
