I didn't know the differences between types of auto shipping in the past but I know more now - and we are so happy that we found this company. A broker works with multiple different trucking companies to match you up with a truck that fits your timeframe and origin/destination- and from my understanding, once you are hooked up with a truck, you are then dealing with the trucking company and no longer with (or not necessarily with) the broker. A carrier fits you into their own truck and schedule and then handles the arrangements for the shipment the whole way through - from origin to destination, you are dealing with the same person/ people/ company. Harold White is the owner of the company Golden Key Express and he was also the actual driver for our shipment. It is rare to find this type of transportation for vehicles, where the carrier is the owner - the continuity really makes a difference - knowing you are working with and communicating with the same person for all of the arrangements - on each end and throughout the whole process. It was just a 2012 black GTI being transported from California to Florida - not brain surgery - but if it was, Harold White is the type of doctor you want to be seeing in the preop area before they take you back. Because EVERYTHING this gentleman Harold White does instills confidence in himself and in the process. In EVERY single interaction Tim or I have had with him, he has been patient and kind and taken time to answer questions - he has made us feel that everything is under control. He is experienced (45 years trucking) and professional, organized and friendly - he communicates extremely well with texts and phone calls and it is just so pleasant and easy to work with him. Mr White gave me a referral to a broker he trusts when at first it looked like we weren't going to be able to ship with him because of the timeframe and the area he was currently covering. Then, he sorted out that it would work out to ship with him if we could meet up with him to drop the car off when he was coming back through southern California with his carrier truck on his way home to northern California for Christmas. Then, he let us meet him in Ontario for the dropoff instead of in Van Nuys because it was way more convenient for us - he saved us probably at least two and a half hours of drive time on the 405 freeway. When we met up in Ontario to drop off, he also gave us tips and advice about our driving a 22' Penske rental truck from California to Florida - hints about where to stay, where is safe, what to avoid, what to watch, that we should be careful to do this or not do that. This consideration and extra time and information goes way above and beyond just transporting our car, the job he was doing so well already. He also really cared about our whole move and wanted to make our journey across the country with everything we owned as smooth as possible too. The car arrived in Florida even earlier than projected / expected - it worked out that we were able to time the dropoff for when he was going to be in Jacksonville with the truck at the same time I was going to be there caring for my parents. The meetup to drop off was smooth and fast. As before, fantastic communication - he worked to get the car to me before I had to leave to take my parents to a doctor appointment, again always so positive and friendly and helpful. Our experience with this company has been stellar all the way through - from the very first phone call all the way to when we said goodbye after the dropoff. Mr White even watched to ward off traffic for me while I was making a three point turn on an access road to head back in the other direction from the truck. Just genuine care and concern on all fronts. This is obviously not just a job to this guy - he seems to love what he does and it absolutely shows in everything he does. Golden Key Express will have you work directly with some great individuals that will be transporting your car, not a broker! ---------- Now here's the full story: A week before moving from Cary, NC to Pasadena, CA, I was about to send over payment information with a company that I had been talking to for a few weeks.The company I was going to use quoted around $1800 for 2 cars (mazda 3 and hyundai tiburon). It turns out the reviews I originally read were inflated/bots. After reading terrible things on yelp, I panicked. That's when I found out what a broker service was for car shipments. There was only one week before two of us were flying out west and we had two cars that needed to be shipped. Right away, I looked up numerous companies and put in multiple quotes. It was hard to figure out if I was submitting a quote to a broker or a transport company. Then, I came across Golden Key Express. On the website, I could clearly tell that this was a personal business and not a broker that I would be working with. On yelp, all I saw were positive reviews. I crossed my fingers, submitted a quote, and gave Harold a call the following day. When I talked to Harold, I found out that Danny (the driver we worked with) would be around the area that weekend (2-3 days from our conversation) and there was a last minute dropout so he had room for 1 car. Still freaked out, I explained my situation to Harold and since the two cars were smaller sedans, he was going to talk to Danny to see if he had space and get back to me on taking both cars. Great news came my way. Danny would be able to transport both our cars! We were quoted $1100 for each car - $2200 total. I talked to Danny on Friday and he informed me of his route. He mentioned that he would come by late Saturday or Sunday morning and work to get as close to the house as possible. When it was confirmed that he would be by on Sunday, he called before he left his prior location (30 minutes out). Next thing you know, Danny made it right in front of our driveway! He let us know that he would be in Pasadena the following weekend. The next week rolled around and we found out from Danny that he would be by on Sunday morning next to one of the nearby grocery stores. The roads in Pasadena are harder to maneuver through and he mentioned this to up when he picked up the cars in Cary. Danny offered to drive one car over to pick us up and take us to the second car but we just took a lyft since the store was close by. Both cars showed up in perfect condition. Although we paid a little more than using a broker, it was definitely worth it knowing that we were working with a reliable company that truly cares about their customers and keeping them satisfied. I had already been through a nightmare of an experience with another company, when I decided on Monday to cancel with that company, I completed the Golden Key form online that night and my car was picked up THE NEXT DAY, after trying with the other company to have it picked up for weeks prior. Misty was great and responsive, and Tomek (driver) was super nice and responsible. I got regular progress updates along the way, and the car was delivered on time and to my parameters, even though I changed the address on them the day before delivery. Moving a car across the country ranks among the most stressful things you can voluntarily put yourself through. The folks at GKE could not have been any more professional and enjoyable to deal with, and actually made this a very pleasant experience! The night before pick-up, my driver Jack called me to arrange plans. Since I lived in Philadelphia, there was no way in hell a car carrier would fit through our quaint, one-way streets. We arranged to meet in a Home Depot parking lot not too far from where I lived, so I could walk home easily after I dropped off the car. That morning, I met him there and he was right on time -- and with an impending rain coming, he even offered to drive me back to my house in MY own car, and then drive my car back back to put on the truck. That is A+ customer service! The drive from Philadelphia to San Francisco took about 12 days, making some stops along the way to pick up and drop off other vehicles. The whole time, Jack was in contact with me, letting me know where he was and how much longer he would be on the road before getting to me. When he finally got to San Francisco, he left his truck in an industrial area a couple miles away, drove my car to my house to meet me, and then he and I drove back so he could get back to his truck. I recently used Golden Key Express to ship my dear automobile from the Bay Area to northern NJ for my cross-country move. Anyone who's done this kind of thing knows what a stressful experience it can be, and I think the people who run Golden Key understand that, too. I was so nervous about shipping my car that I checked up on this company any way I possibly could, even through calling Golden Key's insurance company and asking how many claims they've had recently, etc. Turns out they've only had something like one claim in 12 years (I'm paraphrasing here, so don't quote me on this), and the insurance guy had nothing but good words about the guy who owns Golden Key and the drivers he hires ("only the safest," according to the insurance person). It's a smaller operation, so you tend to speak to the same dispatcher when you call the company, and they even gave me the cell phone number of my driver, who was communicative and friendly. My car got to the destination almost exactly when they said it would, and other than needing a wash (thousands of miles of dirt accumulated -- no fault of Golden Key's, of course), my car was in great shape. My 1976 BMW 2002 underwent a 11 month restoration process in San Martin, CA. Naturally, I was worried about flying rock debris damaging the spectacular paint job while driving it home to San Diego (SD) via the I-5. I contacted Golden Key Express (GKE) and asked if the company could transport my car back to SD. Harold (owner/driver) requested that I make an online reservation 2-3 weeks prior the the desired pick-up date, which I completed. He communicated with me often as he drove westward toward the Bay Area from Boston. I met Harold at the restoration shop on Sept. 8 (Wed) at 9 AM to release my car to Harold's care. He mentioned that he would place my car in a "safe" space once he picked up the additional cars for the drive to SD. He dropped off my car on Sunday afternoon, Sept. 12 with 2 of my neighbors as spectators as we're still driving from San Francisco to SD. He texted me a message with a photo of my car in the driveway. When I returned home later, I checked my car and found that the paint job was still spectacular, but slightly dusty. No amount of stars can show how much I appreciate Golden Key Express. From requesting the quote to the actual delivery of my vehicle, the entire process went by smoothly and efficiently. Before I forget, Golden Key Express is military friendly! Misty, GKE's dispatch coordinator and the one who gives you the quote for your vehicle transport, is wonderful. She handles every request with professionalism and truly demonstrates excellent customer service. I've requested multiple quotes from her -- she has responded to each one within 24 hours; weekends require a 48 hour wait. She reads through the form you submit and adds/subtracts any fees that are applicable to your order; she also handles the "special requests" that you might have. I had one of my vehicles picked up by Dominic in Fresno, CA and he delivered my car to New Jersey on the earliest delivery date I listed on my order. This is the form for the quote, so try to be accurate or sure of your plans so Misty could correctly calculate your quote; this includes the pick up date and the delivery date. Give a range of dates for both. Fill out everything that is required and/or that applies to your vehicle! 3) Wait for the quote in your email. When you receive one, it will show the truck information, the quote in a yellow box, any fees or discounts, and the driver who could be the one transporting your vehicle; a copy of your submitted information is also included. The quote is good for 45 days, but to ensure you reserve yourself a spot on the truck, it is advised you respond as early as you can. 4) If you approve of your quote, respond back to the email and tell Misty you will accept their offer. You will receive a follow-up email that contains the link leading to the final order form on their website to officially secure a spot on a truck. There is no deposit needed at all during any point of the process. *** You pay the driver what is listed on your order form on the actual day of delivery. *** 5) Once approved, you will receive a confirmation email and a PDF containing the completed official order form. Print this out for future reference. It will contain the official details of the transport. The driver will call you 24 hours before the pick up date to give you the address of the location where he could load your car. On the day of pick up, you will meet the driver and he'll explain any additional details. You will also do a walk through around your car so both of you know the condition of the vehicle before and after the delivery. Be sure to head to your vehicle's delivery point at least two days before the earliest delivery date. The driver will call you 24 hours before the day of delivery to give you the exact address of where he can unload your vehicle. It is important to keep in mind that drivers cannot go into residential neighborhoods or in areas with narrow roads so the exact address you give may not be possible. The drivers will do their best to get as close as they possibly, legally, and safely can to your desired delivery point. I shipped two cars from Florida to California last year and was very pleased with the service. Very friendly and helpful. The actual shipping of the cars went very smoothly. The driver showed up on the promised day and dropped our cars off at the destination three days early! He gave us his cell phone number and was in constant communication with us. The truck was very well maintained and looked secure. The driver was very professional and I trusted him with our cars. Cost for shipping two cars was $2000...a little more than you might pay when dealing with a broker but the extra cost was worth the peace of mind.
