I recently made an extensive, livid post regarding my first experience with this restaurant.. I had mentioned due to my vast experience working in a restaurant that they could not convince me to change my opinion about the order. That being said, I never, ever post bad reviews in public knowing that it's very likely the restaurant is just having a bad day. An angry customer may see "reasons" as "excuses" however I have endured all of this at my own workplace. Every restaurant, just as every human has off days. The restaurant contacted me today, we had a nice chat. The man was very kind, understanding and in no way tried to deny that things were not up to par that day. I have been offered a full refund, a thousand apologies and zero resentment for what I originally said. Everyone I know who has tried this place seemed shocked when I told them about my experience. They all have had nothing but good experiences here. Although it was unfortunate that it happened to be our first time ordering from here, what's done is done and the restaurant has done everything they can to try and reconcile. I stated originally the service was great. I appreciate them reaching out and for being so kind, patient and understanding about it. Possibly in the future I may be willing to give it another try, based off the amazing customer service.

The food is nothing more than your typical Chinese food. I'm not sure how my Mom ever fell so deeply in love with this place since it really is nothing special. The one waitress they do have (the times I've been) is an older woman (one of the owners). Which is not any problem I'm just trying to make it clear how it differentiates from a real Mandarin restaurant. She has always been very pleasant though (I'll give her that much). The food is always good. The place is always clean. We have never had any disgusting surprises(unlike some other Chinese food places). Tai Pan China Cafe in Mattawa is one of these places. We always like to start with a Won Ton soup. It seems to be the best measure of how much a restaurant puts into their cooking. Called Wong Ton soup at Tai Pan you will get a piping hot bowl of delicious broth with about four won tons. It is an obviously home made soup. With lots of chopped green onion and special ingredient chopped lettuce. This soup pulled up the rating of everything else. We also each had an egg roll, and shared a BBQ Pork fried rice, Hunan Beef and General Tao Chicken. We were asked if we wanted medium heat or hot. My wife answered medium. We should have ordered hot, it was a little bland for our tastes. But they were both good with lots of meat in each dish. The service was excellent, the woman serving us was in constant motion. They were making a lot of take out orders (on a Sunday night). The restaurant is old and worn but overall seemed pretty clean.
