What a great time! I love finding things to do in the communities that I visit when I travel. We went to see the production of SHOUT, enjoyed it thoroughly! This is a small theater in what was a bowling alley 50 years ago in a tiny town. Not a bad seat in the house! In the front, there are some stadium seats and then in the back area there are a few tables for larger groups. The stage is huge and the sound is good! All of the actors did a really good job There's a nice snack bar, they've got some basic things like barbecue sandwiches, hotdog, chips and candy. I went for a chili cheese dog and was super happy with it. My only beef with this Theater, and it wasn't enough to take a star off, was that those black chairs could've used a once over with a lint roller. Definitely recommend if you are making a trip to Yosemite and are staying outside the park in this cute little community. read more

What a fantastic experience! My fiancée and I were visiting Yosemite and wanted something fun and low-key to do on a Saturday night. We discovered the Golden Chain Theatre and decided to buy tickets to the musical SHOUT! The theater itself is charming--a former bowling alley with a snack bar attached. Seating options include cushioned chairs or cushioned chairs at tables located farther from the stage. We sat three rows back in standard chairs, and both the view and audio were excellent. The seats were comfortable, though a quick lint roll wouldn't hurt! The snack bar offers classic concession-style food--think middle school play snacks--with the nice bonus of alcoholic beverages. Prices are reasonable, and proceeds support the local nonprofit that runs the theater. The cast was fantastic, and the performance was thoroughly enjoyable. If you're visiting Yosemite, be sure to check the Golden Chain Theatre's schedule. You won't be disappointed! read more

Great little theater in a small town of Oakhurst. It's a rich with history and super quaint There's plenty of parking up a steep driveway and once you've parked and gone inside, there is a small bar with food for purchase. They take card or cash and are very friendly. The food they had was pulled pork, hotdogs and chili. They also had candy like red vines, various chocolate and chips. In the first few rows, there is plush seating, but in the back rows, it look like they were some tables. So if you had some snacks or food, you could probably bring them and eat them there. My friend and I had gone to see Notre Dame and I did not realize the play was going to be three hours with a short 15 minute intermission, but all in all it was enjoyable and the set design and costumes were amazing! I thought the quality and talent was superb! read more

Went to see a play here with our Corvette club. Everyone was super nice. The play was great! It was a bit warm inside on the day we were there, but they provided fans and even gave us complementary calendars. There's a snack bar, but plan for it, as the line gets long and it takes a bit to get waited on. The parking lot entrance is near a curve on 41, so be careful pulling in and out. read more

A hidden gem in the foothills. Ive been to many plays but can't say Ive ever enjoyed myself so much. We saw Shrek last night. It was our 4 yr old daughters first time going to a play. She was enthralled the whole time - dancing in her seat during the upbeat songs, wide eyed during the dialog, startled and excited by the moments the cast used the aisle during an act. The talent in the play was exceptional! So much so that it took me a while to believe that the gentleman playing Shrek was actually talking himself instead of lip-syncing to the movie The costumes were FUN, and so well made. The stage sets and the way they changed the sets in between acts was subtle & effective. The creativity in the whole production is one to be envied by other theaters. The fact that the seating area is small so everyone feels close to the stage really makes it special. My only criticism is this - many of us had to stick our fingers in our ears during parts of the songs because the speakers were turned up so loud. It was fine during the dialog but we left feeling like we had left a concert where we were stuck standing in front of the speakers. Besides that, our experience was top notch. We will be going to every play they put on now that we live nearby. read more

What a great place! About 20 minutes south of Yosemite's south entrance is this community theater. I think it's been around for 50 years...it was a bowling alley before that. It has such an old school charm (theater seats in the front, tables in the back) and everyone was really nice. And the show was great! If you're heading to Yosemite go see a show here, then stay at a local hotel. You'll wake up nice and rested for your days ahead of huffing and puffing up trails. read more

We love your theater. We attend every time we are in town and you have a production going on. However, we were at a recent Sunday matinee and a woman-possibly the director-And asked everyone "How was church?" I think that, while the comment didn't bother me, it could be offensive to your theater-goers as not all are church-goers or even have any religion. I think that this comment is better left for intimate groups of friends she knows. read more

Whiskey Tango Foxtrot! This place far exceeded our expectations. We stayed at a nearby inn and got tickets to "A Christmas Carol" just to do something other than hike. My spouse and I had this feeling of foreboding since we are used to community theaters being laughably bad. In fact, we even discussed our exit strategy if the show was intolerable. Before the show began, we were glad to buy some of the alcohol and concessions sold on-site to dull the pain of the poor show we were expecting. This was by far the best community theater we've ever seen, and we enjoyed it more than Broadway productions due to the intimacy of the theater. They took the base story and twisted it to have a new, comical perspective. The show included pyrotechnics, fog, digital displays. We liked it better than professional stages because you could tell these people were having fun and had known each other a long time. Obviously, professional theater performers all have the highest skill level. Here, the performers ranged in skill level, but everyone was good. We liked the production because there was palpable joy from the performers. It was wonderful to see a community come together to make something beautiful. Highly recommend. read more

I didn't have any expectations coming here but I was completely blown away! We saw The Producers and it was such a phenomenal production. The actors were incredible and talented, the costumes were impressive, the set was wonderful--honestly, "blown away" is the best way to describe everything about this place! I will definitely go back for another show. read more

I wanted to go to Yosemite to do some hiking and I wanted to spend some time in Oakhurst to eat coming back; that's when I read about this small theater... and lucky me, they were showing a comedy play so I decided to go. The theater is small but nice, it can be a little dated for some people but it is compensated by the super friendly people running it and the actors welcoming you in the entrance. The play was really funny and the actors were incredible... spontaneous and expressive. I like this kind of places where you feel the community bonding and supporting the local businesses. Nobody pretentious with fancy clothes, just a group of people who wants to have a good time. I would recommend anybody to come and experience it, I will definitely coming back. read more

"Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious" This was our first time here but it certainly won't be our last. We saw the musical Mary Poppins and were smiling and singing along with the packed house on a Sunday afternoon. The entire cast and staff, from young to seasoned, exhibited the excellence of a Broadway production. Lyric Gianni, as Bert, engaged the audience with his charm and dazzled with his tap shoes. I've gone to this theater several times and have always enjoyed the plays. Tonight irked me like no other! The show starts at 2pm and we get there 15 minutes early to get our seats and a drink or something to munch on if needed. I waited 1 hour for the show to start! Why? Because the bar was full, so who has to wait? The people who came prepared! We had a 30 damn minute wait because inconsiderate people couldn't figure out that the show starts at 2! Then we have to listen to a 15 minute speech on what's coming in 2022, when you say it starts at 2, damn it!!!!' Start it at 2! I should NOT have to wait that freaking long because people are getting drinks or food!!! I've been to many venues over the years and this really pissed me off! Tell me what baseball/football games waits on the bar? What about a concert????? NOT! If this is how they treat customers who do the right things then I'm not a fan of them. By the way, the show was decent and worth going to. read more

Great time at Oklahoma! This is a must do if you're a theater fan! Our family had a great time here one night while on vacation. We got a table and all sat around it. Could see and hear fine even in the back! The snack bar had hotdogs, nachos, and sodas. Glad we bought tickets online earlier, every show while we were in the area was a sellout! What would Oakhurst do without this gem. This is small town USA. From melodramas to plays of all kinds to dinner theatre to last nights comedy show. This place makes for a fun evening. A lot of good plays coming so if you are in town or just looking for an evening out, make the trip to Oakhurst (not that far) and support local theatre. read more

As we were on vacation, we stopped in to see a play on one of the evenings we were here. The play was 'The Boarding House', which was ok, but not overly exciting. However, the actors were good, and the location was charming. The actors were good, knew their lines, and did very well. The seating was at tables perpendicular to the stage, so you were not in rows. It was arranged in tiers, so you didn't have to worry about heads. I suppose they might also have dinner shows here as well, but it was just the play the night we attended. They did have free popcorn that was air popped, so we were happy. (no salt - good!) It was a great diversion, off the beaten path, and if I were in the area again, I would be love to go again. I love any kind of local productions, as people put their hearts into it, and this was worthwhile for an evenings entertainment. I said below that it was good for kids. I would have to say that that depends on what play is being put on. However, it is a family friendly location and venue. read more
