Has anyone taken the livestream class, I am debating between the 7 days at home or a physical class, any feedback will be greatly appreciated?

Has anyone graduated from CAM class and if so how did this help with employment?

Kentwood has been a lifesaver & constant source of support for my family over the past 6&1/2 years…read more My child started there in 5th grade & is now in 11th. We placed S there after trying for 2+ years to get S help thru the public school system. We adopted S after S was placed in foster care at 9 mos old. S endured heavy drug use by S's bio mom while pregnant & lack of care the first 9 mos of life. S has severe ADHD, ODD, & is on the spectrum (very high functioning) with severe short term memory deficits & math LD. Behavior due to severe frustration over inability to grasp things was getting worse & worse despite twice weekly counseling at school & in our home, tutoring & a begrudgingly granted 504 Plan that did nothing for S. When S started in 5th grade, S was extremely defiant & wouldn't work or follow the rules. S was turning our home into a war zone w/constant tantrums & fighting. Kentwood uses a VERY strict behavioral intervention chart (BIC) that they mark every 1/2 hour or hour for every student. If the kids are acting out so much that it disturbs the other students, they are moved to a special skills lab w/staff trained to work with these situations so they can return to the classroom. The teachers are just AMAZING & incredibly calm & well trained. They communicate with parents regularly & fully -- both good & bad. So nice to get emails or texts telling me of something helpful or smart my kid did vs. always getting those terrible calls about a problem. S is very verbal & social & likes to read. Comprehension is not great, but there's a lot of effort & interest. Math is a whole other story -- ugly, bad, tantrum causing. Instead of pushing S forward into areas S would never understand, they work w/S to get S fully understanding the areas missed & then move forward at S's own pace & ability. I've had to adjust my expectations & realize/accept that S will never fully get some of the math areas or be very academic. And that's OK. The staff has worked extensively w/S & classmates on social skills, life skills like budgeting & saving & price checking, etc. They talk a lot about learning to watch for others' reactions & social cues & they practice it. Conflict resolution too. How to handle frustrations & advocate for yourself. I'm amazed at how much S has grown emotionally over the years. S has been nurtured by so many different teachers & staff over the years & thru multiple grades. They have been there for me to turn to re: behavioral issues at home & always offer good ideas & practical, hands-on help at school so we're working in tandem to help S. S LOVES S's teachers, & has made incredibly good friends there as well. The classes are very small & personalized to what the individual kids need. The small environment, mask wearing, cleaning & distancing has made me comfortable allowing S to go back to school in person. I highly recommend this school if your child has a special academic/behavioral needs that just can't/won't be met in the public school setting.

The principal and his staff are maybe the worst teaching institution in Palm Beach County. They do…read morenot comply with the American disabilities act. There is no communication between parents and teachers. Their teaching styles do not work. All I can say is if your child is special needs this is not the place to take them. Again, the principal is a joke. They will not help your child in any manner stay away. Stay away stay away. All they want. Is your money you after year after year

Formerly Sandor Weiner School of Opportunity, a charter school for children with disabilities. My…read moreson is currently attending. Located in Miami Gardens off of 47th Ave and 199th street inside Landmark. My child was diagnosed with specified learning disability back when he was in pre-school in 2005. My son went to public school (Maya Angelou )for Pre-K with no issue. It's 2006-2007 school year at Maya Angelou Elementary and my child was placed in a class with (30) students. I found it a little excessive especially for students in special education. I was told by the counselor that the class was split with (15) special education students and (15) regular students. My son has a twin brother who also was attending the same school. Homework would come home and I actually saw that the homework for my special need son was more difficult than my son who was in a regular normal kindergarten class. I was back in forth with the school administration and was told due to lack of school funding my son will not be able to get the individualized attention that he needed. My son was literally struggling in class and was not up to level in his class. I was getting very frustrated because, I did not want my son getting lost in the system, progress reports were given and it read improvement needed in all learning categories. I called the school district, went to downtown to speak with the school board members and that didn't help. The school counselor gave me an option and was advised that my son qualified for the McKay scholarship. I was elated. I looked on the MDPS website and a directory of private schools who participated and accepted the scholarship. I visited many private schools and none were either to my standards or the tuition was over excessive to my opinion and I pretty much had to come out of pocket. Thanks to the search engine google.com, I came across at that time Sandor Wiener School of Opportunity (charter school). I was very impressed with the information on the website and I scheduled an appointment. I went to the school and they pretty much catered to children with learning disabilities The classroom ratio was 10:2 with each teacher having an assistant and nurse for those students with medical issues. The teacher would have group sessions and also had individual time with each student. I fell in love with the school and quickly requested my son to be transferred. The school also provided free transportation within a ten mile radius which was also a plus (not far from my mother's address). I only paid for his reduced price lunch. The year 2009 came around and the school decided it was best for them to go private and were teaming up with The ARC of South Florida. I began panicking because my son was doing so well in his class and his grades were improving. The administration had a meeting with me and pretty much my son will be grandfathered in (yeah) and what ever the Mckay scholarship amount he received, the school will accept the amount and I did not have to come out of pocket. The school changed its name to Ace Academy. I appreciate the staff, teachers, student. My son has done a whole 360 when it comes to his education, he enjoys going to school and learning. They have two other locations in the south side (Kendall and Florida City).
