I later received a transcript email (by accident, I assume) of our meeting/conversation them discussing other clients cases and also how I was being charged for "waiting". Their conversation also discussed how some of them were able to get more women than other staff based upon their hairstyles. Highly inappropriate and extremely unprofessional. Also, the first time I spoke with my assigned lawyer live was at the call where I addressed concerns over billing. I was suprised to learn he was male, I kept addressing him as 'her' because I had only read emails and thought Tanzeel was a female name. (No disrespect intended) I'm only adding this to show how little communication there was with such excessive charges.

That's when I went on the search and found Mr. Jon G. Brooks by accident. Thee wife said what a great guy he was as well as pro and knew his stuff. Fast forward five years later ... with economy sucking as it is and now and now that I don't have a job and have accrued debt beyond my mean its now my turn to claim bankruptcy. So I decided to go with Jon G. Brooks First off his staff was phenomenal, very friendly and down to earth and makes you feel comfortable the minute you walk in. Office was very cleanly, professional, and quiet and quaint Then I met Jon ... the guy definitely knows his shit about the laws of bankruptcy. All ups and downs and fun that it can cause you, as well as help you. What I liked about Jon was he treated me with respect from the moment I walked into his office. I wasn't just another legal fee to him in his pocket. He was honest and up front with me and gave me options to my situation instead of trying to get me to sign paperwork and take my money. I could not say enough about this (Gent) and am happy that I went with Jon to help me out now and my matters in thee months to come.

I consulted with a few other lawyers before deciding to go with Jon and the biggest reason was how Jon really took the time to make me feel like I was in good hands - he answered all my questions, was kind and sympathetic to my situation, and he gave me his undivided attention during the consultation. Jon has a great personality and I loved his humor and how genuine he came across as and he is definitely a very knowledgeable bankruptcy attorney. Even when it was time for the 341 meeting, Jon provided the most detailed directions to the courthouse ever and was there to meet me on time. He told me exactly what to expect which made the meeting with the trustee a breeze. His staff is also super professional, nice and helpful. My only recommendation would be to update clients a bit more frequently at all the milestones of the proceedings, but other than that, I have nothing but good things to say about this law office! Thanks to Jon and his team, I was finally able to turn my bad situation around and get my financial life somewhat together and I will always be grateful to Jon for making me feel at ease during an extremely stressful period of my life. If you're looking to file bankruptcy in the Bay Area, I 100% recommend going with Jon!

I had a 45 year marriage that was coming to an end. I was a mess. My first attorney was so terrible that she was late 20 minutes to a court hearing and was completely unprepared to present me. She did not apologize to the judge or me for the delay. Needless to say, I let her go. My next attorney I hired; the office had a staff exodus en-mass. My 3rd attorney issue was straightened out and hired Jess Smith at H & K. I was hesitant because she was such a young attorney; the same age as my daughter. This young woman saved me in so many ways. I will never be able to thank her enough for her emotional support and listening to some of my requests. I'm sure they were not normal but what is in this situation. She was on top of every document, request, response which were vast in numbers. Because California is a no fault state for divorces I feel it can be very lopsided if one has not pursued a traditional career. I had taken care of financials, home and child raising. As a woman who gave up her career as a graphic artist. I raised our daughter to become a wonderful doctor. I wore about 50 other hats to help my husband, daughter, household to succeed. Unfortunately they don't issue college degrees or adjust pay for this service. Jess Smith helped me navigate the legal labyrinth with some of the best representation that a woman in my situation could have. I really do think she performed miracles. She provided encouragement & the strength to fight for everything that I am entitled to, and perhaps more since I was 65 years old and had been with this man since I was 21 years old. Conveniently he was laid off so he did not have to provide spousal support. Jess as a young attorney; I think had a lot to do with what she helped me to achieve since she was so fresh and had set no boundaries yet. I think this career choice can be a very difficult and I hope this young attorney realizes just how much she'll helps people like me. Jess Smith went toe to toe with the opposing seasoned attorney and actually showed much more skill at times. There were many times where she had to remind the opposing attorney about deadlines and responses times. I will be forever grateful to this young lady who is so brilliantly smart and helped me by representing my best interest and got me so much more than I would have ever hoped for. Keep in mind that I thought cat food was going to be on the menu in my retirement & I do not own a cat. Not only is she a fine & talented attorney, but also a terrific human being that cares about her clients. I hope I come even close to describing how much this attorney helped me. I will always remember her and be forever grateful & and wish her the very best.
