It is definitely not the nicest or stock the best food or groceries, or even offer the best services. But if you lived in east Belfast I cant think of a filling station that is better value. You'll find it has most of the goodies, drinks, household items and magazines that you would expect it to have. In the past they have had a couple of thefts in the shop from some youths with nothing better to do and at the counter where you pay they have some pictures taken form CCTV footage of youths stealing. I used to enjoy jokingly enquiring every week how the investigation was progressing!!! At the end of the day, most of us need petrol. For me I like to pay as little as I can when i fill up.

It was en route to work at the time and seemed to have the best prices. A couple of years down the line it still has the best fuel prices and remains very busy. Likewise shop part is unchanging, just a limited selection of food and household items. You can always get a pint of milk in this one, but most certainly not anything healthy like fresh fruit or vegetables, but really, that's fair enough for a filling station first and foremost.

Over the last 20 years or so, it's been my port of call for everything from Calpol to Petit Pain, open 24 hours and with a cash machine outside, it's extremely handy when you need something outside of the normal shopping hours. It comes complete with its own Post Office with a bureau de change (for travel money) and even has a Subway! It's cuisine de France range is freshly baked on site and there are fresh apple tarts produced on Sunday. What more could you possibly ask for? I will admit it's hard not to pick up one of their treats for £1 deal while at the checkout... They're playing to my weaknesses!

It does all the usual garage services like…read morecar washing, petrol and diesel, water and air facilities and has a good convenience shop as part of it. It is now open 24 hours a day which makes it all the more handy if you need something at an inconvenient time and with a cash point beside it you will never be stuck for cash to get that bag of crisps for the walk home from your mates house at 5 o'clock on a Sunday morning! One of the truly great things about this shop is that it stocks one of the most popular (mostly for sentimental reasons) drinks I've come across in Ireland, especially for Belfast locals familiar with holidays to Donegal...the infamous 'Football Special'! I've only ever seen it sold in Donegal (approx 80miles away) so for it to be available in Cooley's is quite a feat and a very novel idea.

Even handier is that it has a Chinese takeaway and an off licence next to it (see my reviews on Man Lee and Fruit of the Vine). It has a car wash and also supplies bottled gas. It's regularly a bit more expensive for fuel than other garages, usually about 2-3p per litre.
