The last review was over seven years ago. I went there July 5, 2025 and the farm was desolate and…read moreappeared to be abandoned. There were no "Closed" or "Moved to" signs so have to assume they are out of business.

I cannot say enough good things about this farm. I have searched far and wide for raw milk farmers…read morein Greater Cincinnati and was so happy to have found Double J Farm. Here are the reasons why I chose them over others: 1. Low starting herd share price ($25 to sign up for half a share or $50 for a full share), although others farms also have the same price. The difference here is that it is "refundable," as in, Farmer Joe will buy back your share if you ever decide to stop, which is not common elsewhere. 2. Low "boarding/milking/bottling" fee ($15 a month for a half gallon a week or $30 a month for a full gallon a week), although some farms have a lower price. 3. Cows are checked by a vet twice a year, which others do not often do. 4. Each cow's milk is numbered and tested every month by a sample being sent to a lab to check for the somatic cell count. "The SCC is an indicator of the quality of milk--specifically, its low likeliness to contain harmful bacteria, and thus its high food safety." Basically, it shows if the cow is fighting something off or not, and this helps them catch things in the early stages. Farmer Joe was telling me how people can get Crohn's Disease from drinking milk from cow's with Johne's Disease (paratuberculosis), which big dairy does not even test for and happens even with pasteurized milk. However, as a farm, they are not averse to using antibiotics when necessary, and I think that is a balanced approach. If I remember corrrectly, they only had only two sick cows in the last 12 years, and they caught their cases early. I felt VERY much at ease with their approach to health care whereas other farms did not even have a vet check out their cows. 5. The milk is immediately cooled through this expensive machine they invested in ($30K I think) that connects to their milking tubes and has a filter they change frequently to keep out cow hair, etc. I am sure this also makes it easy to milk several cows at once. They own over 30 of them and were adding some more when I visited. 6. They have had milk that sat in the fridge for three weeks and still did not change flavor since the milk is cooled immediately. From my experience, this tells me that a) they have a very clean milking process, which is true since they use natural oils to clean the udders; b) they cool the milk immediately, which I saw myself; and c) they bottle the milk with an airtight seal. I have had raw milk that soured within 1-3 days in the past with another farmer because these three were not followed, and it smelled terrible, too. Do not take chances with raw milk and go with Double J Farm. 7. They offered me a free gallon to take home if I came to their farm for a tour, which I did with my family. Just wear boots because, being that it is a farm, you will get cow feces everywhere. The milk did not have a strong milky flavor at all throughout the week, and I really enjoyed it so much I could not keep myself from drinking it all. 8. They have a Google Business page, which is free to make, where others have written reviews for them. That made me feel more at ease with trying them in the first place whereas other farms just have a number online, if even that. 9. They have their own website, which they maintain. 10. They are going to start accepting Paypal and online credit card payments soon to make it easier for share owners to pay. 11. They prepare their own winter feed for their herd, which others do as well, but the way they do it is pretty cool. 12. They are working on becoming certified organic as well. 13. How they make their yogurt is super, super cool. A cow's body temperature is around 103 degrees. They take this warm milk and put it into mason jars that already have the yogurt culture inside then put them in an oven heated to that exact temperature for 12 hours, so it is not heated even a degree over a cow's natural body temperature. I have never heard of a dairy operation go to such extreme lengths to make sure their milk is not heated, and I cannot wait to try their yogurt, which the farmer told me they cannot make fast enough since herd share owners love it. Oh, and did I mention the amazing customer service? Emily made time to happily answer all my questions on the phone and did not rush me at all. She even asked me at the end if I still had anymore questions. On top of that, she emailed me the herd contract, all the details, and she had a map with the closest delivery site, close carpool sites, and my address on it. I am so happy to see raw milk farms taking it to the next level with their businesses, and I am sure this will continue to attract more customers.
